“Imagine if they brought up some of the current NXT superstars and had them invade the main roster. How cool would that be?” *groans in Retribution*
well technically Retribution was not an N'XT Invasion angle yes all members came from NXT but not only did they get new characters with new names they also barely ever mentioned that they were from NXT a better example for this would be the shortlift real NXT Invasion at the end of 2019. That could have been reaaaaly big! But unfortunately they cancelled it after Survivor Series and i will never know why... though in hindsight thanks to the upcoming pandemic it was for the better that they cancelled it now that the pandemic is almost over they should really consider trying it again it would be the perfect time and the story would really write itself for this
@@cathycatsville67 ooh! Or, they flip the script. Raw and SmackDown invade NXT for WarGames
@@WoodstockProd i think nxt would make a better story i mean they have enough reasons to be angry for all those burys on the main roster it would make total sense for Triple H to make his "kids" go against his father in law for ruining so many promising careers going as far as vowing to destroy vince mcmahon and the WWE
I mean NXT won SS2019

CORRECTION: Thanks to everyone who pointed out that I incorrectly attributed the blame for the Nexus' Summerslam loss on Cena. I regret the error. So now we know, Cena didn't change the finish, he just made it dumb.
I think the thing that made the first season of NXT great is that everybody in that season was embarrassed and therefore had reason to rebel against the WWE
But now, with Triple H at the helm of NXT, they could invade the main roster. It'd probably have to be Triple H going on a power trip and trying to take over one of the two main shows. Or maybe a demand for respect, since NXT doesn't get air time, but produces arguably better content. If he went and took over Raw, I think it could only bring good things. Or at least mostly good.
Can someone please send a source that says WWE wanted Cena to win from the beginning? I always thought The Nexus were supposed to win.
electronsympathy it would work if HHH was just some ordinary booker but fact is he has quite a significant role in the company and it's hard to believe, even from a kayfabe perspective that the son-in-law of the most powerful person in the WWE would have to fight for power and respect as a reason for invasion.
Ukraine One Republic In Jericho's third book, he says that he thought the Nexus should have won, but Vince wanted Cena to win "and that was that".
8:45 I just realized how hilarious that is when (I think) Justin Roberts shouts "Cena's free!" so happily and how Michael Cole corrects him "Cena's fired."
It was actually Matt Striker on commentary that night, I believe.
Wrestling With Wregret Now he's calling the shots CORRECTLY in Lucha Underground.

I honestly love that. I laughed out loud when I heard it. Bryan should pull a Communist gimmick out of his ass, maybe for a heel-turn or something. Knowing him he'd just give Communism a face-turn, though, and fans will hijack PPV main events with chants about "Dismantling the bourgeoisie" and "empowering the proletariat".

Or when steve Austin turned heel on wwe
tbh all companys should stop trying to replica the NWO it´s not working they should rather try to create something new and for once writing a truly great invasion angle WWE would have such a change with NXT vs. WWE...

@@user-we1sj3oj9n They definitely were top guys, but just not on the same level as Cena. John was the most over in terms of merchandise sales, but both Edge and Jericho would have had political power too. The finish was also more of a Vince decision than Cena, if I recall correctly.

It was a good thing Bryan got fired. Had he not, he may not have become the star he became
it's also a good thing the nexus didn't succeed. what did any of those guys have going for them under the nexus banner outside of barrett? did anyone think that husky harris and skip sheffield would be stars? did we really need to see more tarver, otunga, or young on tv?
Thomas Jenkins Considering Husky Harris is now Bray Wyatt I could see him as a main event talent. Just that the gimmick was bad. Also WWE liked liked Skip enough to make him into Ryback after his injury early in the Nexus storyline. And on a personal level I like Young's talent. Think of how great Slater is now all Young needs is a good storyline to be great, but he does not need Bob Barker.
Nealuigi
that was my point, though. both wyatt and ryback needed complete repackaging in order to become who they did. husky harris was just terrible and skip sheffeild was just bland. slater also needed to refine what he had. he absolutely was not ready when he was in the nexus. if anything, it was the years of losing that let the fans finally get behind him. without that, he still would be nothing.
Nealuigi this nigga called bob backlund bob barker
Thomas Jenkins I wonder what Micheal Tarver would have been like if WWE kept him.
But that's sad about Mason Ryan... Cirque Soleil?..I live in Vegas and I never heard about him in it
What could have been.
Saw the Nexus at a 2010 House Show in October and even after Summerslam, the crowd was still booing them and on this show they were treated like a serious threat. They opened a House Show with a Nexus promo and is was actually good!
Wade and company interfered in multiple matches, even after the main event. They got theirs in the end but WWE still had time to correct the course of the sinking ship.

Retribution was no NXT invasion though it was just a bunch of NXT superstars but they changed their names and characters and barely ever mentioned they came from NXT also their storyline had nothing to do with NXT at all a better example would be the real NXT Invasion from the end of 2019 which was awesome and could have been the hottest thing if it was not a last minute replacement but a long term storyline after seeing the huge success of it (it was then when NXT beat AEW for the first time by the way) they should have pulled the trigger but oh well... Vince... enough said
I didn't realise the feud with Taker ended because they injured him. I remember Barrett cutting a promo about a higher power behind the Nexus during that feud, and it just never went anywhere.
A Lemming It was Vince... Every higher power is Vince... :P
A Lemming It's me, Austin!

Wesley Wiggins; Oh, Son of a Bitch!!!
My favorite Nexus moment was then-heel Sheamus teaming up with the faces against the bigger threat without turning face himself. That kind of story shouldn't be a unique moment worth pointing out but it is.
I really hope you do a review of the Millionaire's club vs. The New Blood, because that storyline REALLY deserves a once-over.
Cen's two biggest sins:
-refusing to put over the Nexus
-taking the wwe title away from Rey
WTH Rey was gonna do with that belt he was losing it anyway
And people wonder why people boo Cena...
***** This is just a sample of why in addition to his staleness as a character.
Vince mcmahon ruined cena, just like everything else.
Because it was the trendy and cool thing to do yet they still tuned in to watch every week.
#CenaWinsLol
I remember the first wwe house show that I went to was around the height of the nexus (about a week or two before summerslam, if I remember correctly). The main event was cena, jericho, and evan bourne vs. barret, ryback, and otunga (i think). One of the few things that I remember was that barret and ryback were in the corner at one point, barret said, "Hey! Is my nose straight?", ryback snapped his nose back in place, and the match continued. The match was good, and got everybody on their feet towards the end.
J. C. Peterson that's badass
Call me crazy, but can you say the Spirit Squad turned out better than the Nexus? Just look at their ceilings.
For a stable of 5 male cheerleaders who started out as lackeys for Jonathan Coachman, they went pretty damn far for their ten-month run. They beat Big Show and Kane to win the tag team championships and held them for like 6 months, became lackeys for Vince McMahon, and had multiple matches with DX. That's far more than what I would've expected had I seen this gimmick on paper.
Nexus on the other hand, the sky was the limit for those guys. Considering all the potential that group had, it's sad the original Nexus (or Barrett at least) was it done by December and all made to look like fools by Cena. I'm not gonna say they should have been the next nWo, but their push should have been similar to the nWo. I'm not gonna go through everything they did wrong since you already covered that, but just let the question I asked sink in a little bit.
The Squad did very well as a collective unit, but if you look at how they all ended up after they split, it was a travesty. Ziggler and Kenny were the only two of those five who did anything after the break-up, and of those two, only Ziggler ended up doing anything meaningful.
Don't forget, Spirit Squad vs DX was the main event match of Vengeance 2006
Cena has to hold the title for most burials in the WWE
Triple H does actually
Christopher Ballero no hulk Hogan does
Triple h wasn't unbeatable, so stop saying triple h.
At least triple H has a probability of losing in matches most of his career (excluding 03-05 championship reign). When cena loses its like winning the lottery, due to how rare it is. Hulk Hogan is just the old school version of Cena in ego and charisma.
***** Austin was a diva but he wasn't unbeatable either, look it doesn't matter how much you try to back up Cena, he IS super Cena, well he was, he's relinquished his title to Roman.
I've never been a Cena hater, but this was fucked up
OK...Now talk about League of Nations. OK, it destroyed the carreer of only 4 men, but in turn those 4 men all were upper midcarders and not new guys to the rooster. Instead of creating a new mainevent level threat WWE managed to have Alberto Del Rio and Wade Barret leave the company and make Shamus and Rusev look so bad that they pretty much had to be built up from scratch again.
And us fans never even got a damned tshirt outta it!!!
Gabriel's also on Lucha Underground. Should've mentioned that.

This entire thing made me finally hate Super Cena til then (2008-2009) I was neutral on the guy and before that I actually liked him (2004-2007) but this period in WWE was the worst even more so than the Reign Of Terror. I remember one Raw where Cena was taking a beating and while he did his comeback he has this shit eating grin like the last 10 minutes didn't even happen. He breezed through Raw week to week like he had absolutely no worries and only got annoyed on occasion.
ChiGuy251 The Cena hate is getting old.

@@spiceupyourlife7755 But given how long the Super Cena thing went on for and what came of it I would say it is justified.

The difference is that the Cena hate eventually boiled down to "We hate him because it's Cena."
Not "We hate him because he did (x)" or "We hate him because he's boring", it was just hating on Cena purely for the sake of hating on Cena, and that's honestly worse than mindlessly cheering for him.
The most iconic shot of the Nexus to me is that one shot of all six of them backstage, smiling and laughing, in their near naked wrestling gear, looking at Josh Matthews who's too scared to bend and spread.

....I always thought the WWE was trying to pattern The Nexus after the NWO, But the Nexus had too many weak links and never really looked like a cohesive unit. The WWE really killed the Nexus by having John Cena join the group because John Cena actively worked to sabotage the group. An ideal scenario would have been to have John Cena challenge Wade Barrett for leadership of the group with a match between the two in which Cena emerges victorious and becomes the new leader of the Nexus and under Cena's leadership, The Nexus dominates WWE, Similar to how the NWO dominated WCW.
the companys really need to stop trying to replica the NWO... Nexus in WWE, Aces & Eights in TNA, Bullet Club in NJPW.... the last was pretty succesful i give you that but nowadays it´s almost dead and former fans refer to it as a cheap knock off NWO... the NWO will NEVER be succesfully revived no mattter which name they slap on it

Vinny Mac dropped the ball BIG TIME by not putting Juan Cena on TV
Considering your statement in the comments and from what i have read i honestly can't help but feel like the undisputed reason for The Nexus's failure is how Vince saw them as nothing but fodder to be built up and then fed to Cena like all his other victims in yet another half-assed attempt at making Cena "overcome the odds" and win no matter how contrived it is. This is also one of the best demonstrations at how terrible, stale and creatively bankrupt WWE programming is because rather than doing something new and exciting for the product that would bring both new fans and the old ones that have been alienated for a while WWE went back to their old ways just to be "safe" which is so goddamn disappointing.
I find it weird how nexus was buried from vince, but they were organically created from him, so you think they would have been booked like shield, and shield was created by cm punk, so you'd think it would be the opposite, nonetheless, nexus entire point of being created was to be fed to cena essentially, and even I knew it at that time, and wish they didn't feud with cena so much
@@theonlygoodonehere2259 If this along with WWE's booking of Independent and company made wrestlers demonstrates anything is how frustratingly inconsistent they are.
They sometimes work hard to make WWE made wrestlers feel like a big deal, other times they just won't even bother like with The Nexus.
Sometimes they do good-to-great job with wrestlers who worked for other promotions and made their names there like The Shield expect for Roman Reigns, other times they will bury them either for THAT reason or on a complete whim by Vince McMahon.
If it isn't the awful writing, lackluster stories or even great stories with dismal payoffs that hurts the enjoyment of WWE then it's their wildly inconsistent and subpar booking of wrestlers that seals it because how can anyone get invested in the majority of the wrestlers if you can't trust the company to book them right?
