  • A little speedlight and a small foldable beauty dish… it just works and it’s really cheap! The original RoundFlash was $70 and the third party units are $12 - $18 Maybe that’s why the original is a thing of the past. (Photographers overspend without even thinking most of the time).
    But honestly, I use this little beauty dish so much I had to share it - again.
    Here is one I found on eBay from a reputable seller with 100% positive feedback. ebay.us/9VLhKC

    Available in our country for around 20-22 USD. Was very popular few years ago among event photographers who works in night clubs or bars.

    I’ve owned the Roundflash version of this for about a year and have used it with both the Godoy V1 and an AD100 and agree it’s surprisingly good. 👌🏽

      I do love it. I have to work to get it on the Profoto A2 because of the battery placement but it does work perfectly on the AD100. It’s great just to have with you.

    I've owned the roundflash beauty dish and ring flash attachment since the beginning. Shame so many bootlegs made the company disappear but nature of the beast and all. Liked the RF dish a lot but ended up moving on to the Chimera collapsible dish instead which takes a few more minutes to set up but is more versatile

    I have one Roundflash dish, and six copies. The Roundflash one is much better, I wish they still sold those. But it's my favorite modifier. Pocketable, cheap, lighweight, quick to deply, mount on the flash directly (which means no need for an umbrella bracket with a hole), small and not intrusive, very low surface for the wind to blow it over (and it's covered, not like an umbrella). The only downside I see is : I can't put 2 strobes inside it if I want to double the power, like I can with an umbrella.

  • @omegaman1409
    @omegaman1409 Před 7 měsíci

    Good alternative to the umbrella. Even tho it’s not as soft it’s way less intrusive.

    I’ve been using Roundflash products since they came out, and I also love the dish. In my testing the light quality is similar to a small STU but with more control and insanely convenient operation and mobility. I’ve done many portraits shoots with just one or two of these and have been really happy with the results. I’ve also used them handheld with the flash on a handle for a bit of extra distance. Great product!

    Still available from Godox... Model RS18... on amazon!

    I've had my roundflash for like 8 years now its a little beat up and dirtly but still works. I bought a Godox version as a backup from amazon but the color temp is slightly colder on the godox I think as it ages, yellows from UV and gets dirty it will also warm up the color temp of the light a bit

      I didn’t know Godox had one - the RoundFlash was like 60 or 70 😱 but all these available units now are a lot less.

    Thanks for this. Ordered one from Ebay already although I did subsequently see the Godox via Amazon comment....About the same ultra-cheap price without checking. If not for your review, I would have "walked" straight past this as an oddity (I am a rank amateur). Ta!🙂

    I remember you recommended the 20 inch Angler FastBox in an earlier video. Hope does this compare in terms light quality? This one is so compact.

    • @kaskoPhoto
      @kaskoPhoto  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Well the angler is better for sure but I use this for those run and gun moments and when I just have this in the car. Or on the streets when I want to travel light.

    This is interesting but would it not be better to at least take one photo without the modifier on? Just to see how much of a difference it makes.

    • @kaskoPhoto
      @kaskoPhoto  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Well yes, but I think we all know what a bare flash looks like - and if it’s nice light with it on that’s the goal.

    • @waltergroves7672
      @waltergroves7672 Před 7 měsíci

      @@kaskoPhoto I have seen some photos taken with a bare flash and then a particular modifier and it was very very difficult to see much of a difference. Just sayin it would be nice to see how much of a difference it makes.

    • @kaskoPhoto
      @kaskoPhoto  Před 7 měsíci

      @@waltergroves7672 Let me try another approach… did you ever see a before and after photo of someone? When you see the person first you think nothing of their current state - but when you see the before and after it’s like Damn you look amazing! That’s how I see comparisons. Side by side and modifier made out of toilet paper would look better. But seeing just what the modifier can do on its own… you either like the look or you don’t. Nothing is swaying your opinion other than the real results.

    • @waltergroves7672
      @waltergroves7672 Před 7 měsíci

      @@kaskoPhoto and sometimes you don’t that’s my point. I have seen comparisons and there is little to no difference from bare flash to the modifier being tried, especially if it’s sort of an odd ball one if that’s the right way to put it. That’s why simply doing both shots that can’t possibly take too much time would be helpful. Maybe with that modifier you are showing there would be a big difference maybe not or maybe not enough that the average person couldn’t tell. Only way to tell is try it both ways right?

    • @kaskoPhoto
      @kaskoPhoto  Před 7 měsíci

      @@waltergroves7672 that’s fair. Good debate. Next time I will provide and A/B. But for this one, it’s a very decent difference. Much larger source

      I own three of the original Roundflash (I think they were a Polish company) product’s and they’ve held up well. I did buy one of the cheaper knock-offs and mine also didn’t last long. Perhaps the Godox one is worth a shot.
