  • I recreated the Avengers main theme by ear with MIDI using Audio Imperia's new orchestral sample library "Nucleus: The Orchestral Core".

    95% of this was done by ear, the other 5% was asking friends to help me figure out that glockenspiel part in the intro (it's still not quite there but it's good enough)

    This VST is really insane. I personally prefer metropolis ark for more dramatic and powerful sound (dark souls like) but at this point this is moslty peronnal opinion. Nucleus seems to be way more versatile thks to the "round sounding instruments"

    • @jules-etiennelepany8397
      @jules-etiennelepany8397 Před 3 lety +1

      As a beginner, owner of both, nucleus is way more easy to use and to tweak, you can get a really strong piece of music in a matter of hours, as opposed to ark, in which i find more complicated to use, to find yourself in the sections and ensembles, you spend more time digging the exact sound you need, imo ;)

    • @stell4rt
      @stell4rt Před 3 lety +1

      @@jules-etiennelepany8397 I could agree with that. I don't have nucleus but it seems really user friendly in the video. I got used for many years to use old synth VSTs with a LOT of buttons xD. Therefore the ergonomic aspect does not afraid me that much. I mostly searched for raw brass sound with very powerful basses. Ark gave me this instantly, So I took it but Nucleus is obviously not worse or better, just different.

    Amazing man! The only thing that could be added is more reverb becuase it sounds a bit in your face when compared to the original. The horns end abruptly instead of smoothly which is why I think you could've added reverb more. But still its the closest remake I've heard of late.

    • @TomHawkComposer
      @TomHawkComposer  Před 4 lety +6

      THE ROBBER thank you, I appreciate the feedback! You’re right that it’s dryer than in the original, however I wanted to keep any additional processing to a minimal so that it’s as close to what this library sounds like out of the box. So there’s just a bit of EQ and a lower level of added reverb - I can completely understand what you mean though :)

    Many thanks,
    Cheers!

    • @TomHawkComposer
      @TomHawkComposer  Před 4 lety +3

      Harald Vicaire thank you! I used the modern mix with the internal reverb turned off just so it’s the natural reverb of the room, and then added my own reverbs - VSS3 and Seventh Heaven. I can go into that in a bit more depth in a separate video.
      The only other major processing I did what some basic EQ on tracks, but there honestly wasn’t a lot needed. The library sounds great out of the box.
      In terms of weaknesses? Well, if you’re looking for detailed libraries for individual sections like strings, brass, etc. then it doesn’t do it to the level of really in depth string libraries. However, that’s NOT the purpose of the library it’s an all-in-one orchestral library, so I don’t think that really counts as a weakness.
      Again, it’s not a dedicated library for an individual section so it won’t have as many round Robbins or dynamic layers, but again that’s not the purpose of the library. All of that is kept lower since it’s an all in one library and adding all those extra RRs or dynamic layers or articulations would bring the cost way up (and also the size of the library: which is a nice plus for beginners or travelling composers, it’s literally around 30GB for the entire thing).
      It’s such a great all in one library, absolutely love it for what it is - and I still use it alongside dedicated section libraries :)

      Hey Marc! Sorry for not seeing this sooner. Both of these are great sample libraries, and both have different uses. If you want more of the traditional orchestra with some lovely soloists and a choir, then Nucleus is great for that. If you want more of a hybrid, modern and detailed (more dynamic layers and RRs) then maybe Jaeger might be better. Either way, they're both excellent sample libraries :)

      Adameus what kind of music do you want to create? And do you have any other sample libraries yet? :)

    • @adameusmusic
      @adameusmusic Před 4 lety

      @@TomHawkComposer I own Albion One already. I like the depth and darkness of MA1 and MA2 and would not say no to the harp, piano, Cimbassi and childrens choir (as I like dark music but also some epic stuff. I also enjoy writing bright and emotional stuff but I would use Albion the most as it has a very wide dynamic range), but I also like the point of Nucleus: Nearly every instrument of an orchestra, also high woodwinds and the tuned percussion.
      But in my opinion, the variety of articulations goes to the Metropolis series, which is also a plus point for MA.
      I would also like to try writing trailer music or more epic music and covers of film scores (I'm a big fan of John Powell, James Newton- Howard, Danny Elfman and Erich Korngold, so here the Metropolis series would probably help me the most).
      To conclude, I would love to have the "not so usual" but very interesting and beautiful instruments from Metropolis, but I would enjoy writing with all the various patches from Nucleus.

    • @adameusmusic
      @adameusmusic Před 4 lety

      So right now, I'm more into the direction "waiting for a MA1+2 deal", because I would love the two different choir sections plus childrens choir and the harps and the horns and the Cimbassi and and and...
      But I don't want to make the mistake that I think after a few weeks: "Maybe I should have bought Nucleus, because... "
      So this is my inner conflict right now haha

    • @adameusmusic
      @adameusmusic Před 4 lety

      ... and as I'm just 14, I can't just go to work and earn enough money to buy libraries every two months... This will be an important decision😬

    • @TomHawkComposer
      @TomHawkComposer  Před 4 lety +3

      Adameus that’s completely understandable, amazing that you’re starting so early - I remember we spoke about this before, amazing that you’re staring so early!
      And yes, that’s a big choice to make. You already have Albion One so you have some great sounds in there. I think you need to figure out what you want next, and see if Nucleus or MA1+MA2 will give you what you want.
      They’re all excellent libraries. If you want beautiful solo instruments and individual sections (Eg. Violins and violas and not just “high Strings”) for more control then Nucleus might be better.
      If you want children’s choir like you mentioned and the sound of MA1+MA2. It’s your choice.
      Personally I’d go for Nucleus just because then you have some great solo instruments, some individual section patches and really nice orchestral percussion.
      I’m saying that because you already have Albion One, so you already have ensemble patches and some things that are also covered in MA1 (the epic percussion in Albion One and MA1 are both great).
      Again though, it completely depends on what you think you need the most in your next sample library. Think about it for a little longer and see what is missing in your current collection.
      By the way, do you have the full version of Kontakt 5? If not, you can get a nice cheap crossgrade through owning a library like Albion One - and if you already have it then check out the Harp in the Kontakt 5 factory library. It’s actually made by VSL, pretty good Harp to say its standard in there, I still use it for some things now.
      There’s also some other pretty good orchestral patches hidden in there :)
