      Appreciate that, Mike.
One of these days I will be ready for something else, but not quite yet.
I’m a lucky guy and I am very grateful to still have good health.

It was my pleasure and I was glad to have you guys come aboard to visit. Have a safe trip home and we will see each other up there again one day.
Don’t forget to think about good places I could go when I am making my next visa run…

      Thank you Dianne.
I have gotten pretty familiar with the Hydrovane but did not expect to have to do the job that was presented to me.
When I first arrived in Cuba, the anchorage looked so rough. I was thinking “how in the world am I going to work from the dinghy?”
Hard to believe that I had it ready to go by early afternoon.
But it was a long nine days

The hat was lost however, in the Caribbean Sea, about halfway between Cuba and Belize.
Naturally, I performed all immediate actions, including a har-overboard recovery attempt, but to no avail.

Hi Russ.....other than Agatha giving you fits, all in all, a good passage. Thanks for taking me along. 😉 Have fun, stay safe. Try and get an eye on that jittery rudder. Wouldn't do to have it go TU on the way to Rio Dulce....tho there are good yards reputed to be there.

I always appreciate your comments, Paul.
You shoulda' heard the curse words when I was working with that rudder.
I am glad I got it "mostly" secured before the wind really picked up that day.
Yesterday I checked the bolt tightness and they were still fine, but I can see that the tube/strut is not 100% in alignment with the "socket", so we'll have to do some work in Rio Dulce this summer. Do not want a repeat of that issue.
Can you imagine being on an ocean crossing and having that happen?

Well, I tried to minimize the curse words!
      Haha.
The hardest part physically was trying to work from the dinghy, getting that wind vane reinstalled.
The best part was seeing the Southern Cross.

I sure appreciate the comment - - the hardest thing, I think, is being out there alone. That’s why I really appreciate comments like yours, because I keep the CZcams viewers in mind while I am sailing. It’s like writing down my notes for a friend.
One thing I didn’t mention in the video was that it was so hot and humid, but I had to keep the cabin hutches closed the whole time. I was crossing the Caribbean sea (to stop getting water from splashing in)…..No complaints on this trip.

Hey Russ Lisa and I are glad to see you made it to Belize. We are happy to know your plans are working out and the trials and tribulations of important things like wind vane steering breaking when you are not in a good position to repair it get repaired anyway. Well done! We are looking forward to your next video of all of the fun and relaxation you will have in Belize

What is the story on that rudder vibration?

    • @skipjacksailing8986
      @skipjacksailing8986  Před 19 dny +1

      Do not know yet.
There are lot of forces trying to push that rudder around when in heavy swell.
Made me nervous enough to prepare the ditch bag.

      @@IntheBlood67
Y'know I hadn't thought of that and I didn't include the video of when I dove down to inspect the rudder after the Crab-Pot Event (CPE).
There is certainly a long "scar" on the lower portion of the main rudder, port side, where the line was dragging.
Could this cause damage to the hinge? No idea.
