- The Compute Stick from Intel is awesomely small, but is it also just generally AWESOME? Luke gives us the run down!

Thing is... There wasn't much showing off of the PC capabilities. You just showed a lot of photoshops, and 3 seconds of it running. Even as light as it is, benchmarks against your standard test bench and even a few phones somehow would've given a little perspective of the possibilities, rather than "it's really handy, take our word for it!!!"
Yeah, L double T has kinda gotten away from the informational and more raw data side of things, and has become a long advertisement type of channel. If there were more videos like the older ones, I might be way more interested again.
TheUltimaXtreme yeah, I want to see if it can run Twitch 720p 60 fps. Or youtube at 1080p 60 via chrome.
Simonas Mažeikis probably doesn't work well. Single band bgn is really crappy. Waiting for the new ethernet port chromecast will be much better
TheUltimaXtreme those awful stock photos have just destroyed their style
I agree with this
A very disappointing "review". It seemed more like an overview. Not as "in-depth" as I would want it to be.
conyo985 i completely agree. and to +Flame who commented below "the video title and description never called it a "review"..." is completely wrong we expect reviews when we watch these videos, not overviews that we could get off the website
rage fards Look on the forum where the video discussion is posted, "Intel Compute Stick Review" is the title of the thread...
That's because it's Luke. He's not cooperating until he gets a #firepole .
The compute stick has more ports than the macbook
it has 3 ports, macbook has 5....
@@reisenImperishableNight This was 7 years ago, the Macbook had two ports, USB-C and a headphone jack. What Macbook are you referring to?
@@reisenImperishableNight Macbook’s from 2015-2019 (now discontinued) had only ever had 2 ports
@@MrMeisterHD wait so its not 2013?
Bruh
All i see is ads and hardly any useful info on the product. Stop being so damn coolish, there is enough of that on youtube.
Frank Johansen what info do you need actually, dont even have to look at the specs you would know that its just a pc that can do very very basic stuff.
Frank Johansen Yeah, there's so much useful information! It can open MS Paint! Wow! What do you want, specs? -.-
Frank Johansen Linustechtips as I see it now: 5 minute video, 2 minutes of promotion and ads
MatzeGamer They are paid by Nvidia, but AMD pays them more, or at least that's what Linus said on Twitter when the 3.5GB thing was happening.
Exactly! I can find all the specs myself is i want. What I'd like to hear/see is some actual use.
Can it playback 1080p or 4k without stuttering? Can you stream to it? I got no useful information from this video. Sorry but I really didnt like it.
WITH BING? WOW NOW I TOTALLY WANT ONE >.>
Joe PittyFool Internet its only for porn.
HapplyFace It's just the default search engine, W8 with bing is just W8... with bing. That you can disable. Like within a minute of opening your browser.
Aukerai I disabled it while intstalling Win8.1 :D...
Der WLAN-Kabel-Verband pretty sure it comes pre-installed on the stick.
HazewinDog possible... but you should be able to disable it in the options :D
Asking for likes before the video has begun kinda defeats the purpose of the like button in the first place.
TWITCH Its stupid because if i like a video but dislike his suggestion then what do...?
TWITCH Well in this case, they are using the like button in a sort of question. Although, you and Gabagool are right.
Knives 'n Gear and the video is already made and gonna be posted, anyways.
Priestess Paula No, not necessarily. Like I said, they could be using the like button as a means of letting them know what the viewers want.
TWITCH Its just a completely useless question to get more likes/dislikes on their video's. Since a high number of likes and comments suggests a more involved audience, which is more interesting for advertisers, which leads to more add income.
I would much rather hear Luke outright say "Please like/dislike and leave a comment, it will help fund this channel" instead of "baiting" likes by asking some pointless question.
Hit the like button to see a video we are going to make anyway..
So true
Or that's already on vessel -.-
Alasdair White jesus, just thumbs up, support them
***** As you can obviously see based on every video pretty much on CZcams, the majority of viewer DO NOT hit the like button or dislike button. They obviously say it at the end of each video to remind anyone who would forget or to encourage people who usually don't.
Tu Anh This is one of the few videos I did not like. A boring vlog about a concept I could read in half a page of text.
This honestly wasn't much of a review at all. Pretty disappointing really.
Where does it say "review" in the title?
Yiannis Christou it says it on the linus tech tips website dumbass
linustechtips.com/main/topic/409234-intel-compute-stick-review/
rage fards Well, still the title doesn't, Dumbass
rage fards no, im just playing with you :3
Apansyy This review seems really really streched out, and it didn't need to be, there is so little useful information given.
I don't wanna be one of those "whiners", but hell, has this channel gone down hill.
Reviews became "overviews".
Benchmark videos lack specific data and direct hardware comparisons comparisons.
Unboxings are GONE.
Ads everywhere.
Videos are shorter than my dick...
I know you're busy with all that's going on in your lives (changing the office, worrying about those guys not FUCKING UP you shit like they did to your wall, and managing your budget), but still...
Have some consideration for us, all I got from this video was ads ads, a joke, ads. I don't want to waste 30 to 40 minutes doing research on devices that I don't know, that's why I'm subscribed to you (and probably most people).
Things that lacked in this video:
No benchmark comparisons.
While you told us the size, I wanted to see it side by side with a normal sized USB device.
Boot time, how it works, what programs it can and cannot run, easy of use, etc...
Edit: Since this comment got a lot of likes and will probably get more visibility than I wanted it to have, I'll just leave this note here explaining that I' in no way hating on them, I respect you as people and entertainers, just giving a piece of criticism.
ADevilNeverCry Fuckin oath mate
I agree I remember when Linus tech tips was awesome and it's gone downhill
Chilling And Dilling
I still like their channel, I've been watching them for a while, at least 3 years and, their production quality has simply dropped 8couple of months now)... it's hard for me to say this and probably harder for them to read it, because I directly implied that their later work sucks... I just hope this is just a phase, things will hopefully get better when they move to their new office and don't have to rush things.
Chilling And Dilling
Don't get me wrong, their camera work, script, video and audio quality have all improved dramatically, but the amount of information and length has dropped, considerably. heh, I really though I would get a lot of hate from the people here, it's glad to see that there isn't fanboys on this side of youtube.
Cor Tadew
Ha, no, but it's not long either, it's a bit above overage, I was just making a dick joke, like linus likes to do haha.
this is more powerful than my school's computers lol
🤣🤣🤣 Good one
Faster than my school’s 7 years old pentium desktop
That barf when Bing is mentioned
Philip Alexander Hassialis that would have been My exact reaction lol
Disliked the video because I could have saved 5 min by reading the specs and millimeters myself from amazon. Repeating 3 times the possibility to use it in a hotel room isn't super relevant to tech enthusiast audience. I would have liked to see: how laggy does it get, read/write speeds, download/upload speed, can you stream with it, can i watch 720p youtube videos, can i watch twitch streams, can i connect keyboard+mouse, can i play something etc.
Also begging for likes is annoying.
I dont know the read/write or up/download is but if you have a good enough wifi, streaming shouldn't be a problem. As for the 720p CZcams, you can because of its HDMI output. Keyboard, yes, although youll probaby need a usb hub. Also, thy worked on this video, so its only right that they ask for something small and simple in return for their content creation.....
XD
Michael Shore It'd be nice to know if its powerful enough for flash/html5 in HD. Just because it has HDMI doesn't me the device is capable of pushing a CZcams video at 720p
Michael Alderson *mean
Michael Alderson True, but it would sense, you know, if the Grafics chip and output support it
I have a beelink p2 all the specs are the same (shit) but yea. It pushes 720 just fine. 1080 on the other hand is unwatchable.
This was garbage. This isn't a review and the writing is mediocre at best. How was the experience? Give us an indication of how well it worked when you used it!
Don't just state the obvious and spend 2 minutes talking about use case scenarios.
Happy to be the first dislike.
Edit: Please check the lighting as well... the video is very dark
Don't complain, it could've been "Windows Me W/ Yahoo"
Saw it, bought it. It's really handy to have your own computer at any time. It's really useful, like Luke said, in hotels or librarys or just at someone elses house where you don't want to fiddle around with the TV or their (slow) computer. And almost everything these days has a HDMI port. You can also carry around an adapter to DVI if some old monitor doesn't have one, although it's would then become to cluttered because I think if as something to have in your pocket or a tiny opening in your bag where you can stuff it in. For anyone who just wants something portable and can't afford a laptop it's really good. I mean come on.....It's only (at least now) 160 bucks...... Try and find a laptop equal to it. Also laptops are bigger :)
I like what you did with the music at the end there. Really spices things up a bit, and it's a good lead-in for the end music.
Ok, I might have found the best solution for cleaning your computer. GET A HAIRDRYER. But not any old hairdryer. Get one which is anti static and has an eco mode, which only blows out cold air. It benefits in all ways. You can dry your hair whenever you want and clean out your computer whenever you want. It's big but it saves big bucks on compressed air. The one I'm all about is only £13 which is about $20 and compressed air is is £5 or $7.75. So you save massive money. Just want to get this out there.
***** is this like putting in your phone in the microwave?
Nah m8 it's anti static so it'll do no harm and when you put it on eco mode it doesn't use the heat rod and only blows out cold air.
Benjamin Macdonald Nah m8 it's anti static so it'll do no harm and when you put it on eco mode it doesn't use the heat rod and only blows out cold air.
Anthony Sparta Pretty making? What do you mean?
Yeah it is. Just don't do it inside if you haven't cleaned your computer in like 2 years.
oh wow it comes with bing! I hope it comes with paint
What is the computer case right at the end of the opening spiel? The tinted glass double bay one?
I have had mine now for a few months. It has replaced my other living room setups I used to have, including but not limited to Raspberry Pi and Windows Laptops. I even find that I use it more than my Chromecast because it just does more, it has not completely replaced it though. It does handle emulators such as Mame pretty well, and with a 64GB SD I have plenty of room for that sort of stuff. I hooked it up to a powered USB hub from where I have a USB to Ethernet adapter, giving me faster network and the ability to hook up multiple peripherals. And that is really the most important aspect because with that I use Steam in-home streaming with no problems. native 16:9 full HD resolution streaming from my gaming PC, with little to no latency, mostly none. Multiple XBox controllers for couch based multiplayer games or a mouse and keyboard setup for shooters, because normal people don't use controllers for shooters :P Jokes aside, it is a very useful little device as a thin client. Besides game streaming it does CZcams and netflix just fine. It takes a little longer to fill the buffer and catch up than a regular sized PC. If you hav a huge library of media and use Kodi for that stuff, it does that too just fine. In fact Kodi runs better here than on the Pi. Mostly I use it as a streaming device for pretty much whatever streaming you can do in Windows. Totally worth it.
I wondered how a computer could fit in such a small space ten years ago... I can't believe it came true!
Never the dislike ratio has been so high on LTT. Stop asking for likes to see a next video Linus. It's Annoying. No hater here.
Hello, I have a Question about my PCIe configuration:
My CPU(Intel Xeon e3 1231v3) can handle 1x16, 2x8 or 1x8 ando 2x4 PCIe lanes. I had my graphics card(GTX 970) running in 1x16 configuration. Now I needed another PCIe-1 extension card that I rarely use. So now it'll run in 2x8 configuration, right?
My Questions are if the PCIe-8 config slows down my GTX 970 and if it does if there is any way to change PCIe config on the Fly in Windows or in BIOS.
My mainboard: Gigabyte H97-D3H
If theres a discussion about a similar topic in some forum or you know a conclusion I'd love to see an answer. Sorry about bad english, I'm not native english speaker.
Thank You!
what case is at the beginning? the lian li one what is it called?
What was that pc at the start!!??
I like this for the idea of it being a media computer to having in the living area rather than a full PC
How do you make it work? I got two and read through the instructions serveral times, but they both say "No Bootable Device Found"
This thing is like the ultimate PC tech must have! Yeah I carry a tablet, cell phone, and notebook but I bet this can do just about as much as a notebook. Lets me reduce the size of the stuff in the back pack plus would be great for setting up right at the area I'm working on without having to run extra cables and plugs to the work area that may or may not be available.
You could do some benchmarks for this for example
Maybe I missed something or Im just plain stupid but how do you plug in the mouse and keyboard if there's only one usb port?
***** USB hub
***** Bluetooth
Or Bluetooth
They didnt include a peripheral to actually use it?
Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, mouse and keyboard that works off only one USB dongle (I know Logitech makes something like that), or just a usb hub (although not the best when cramming it behind your TV).
Apologies if I'm a bit OT. I have a question; I have a lot of legacy (windows 98 era) games along with some more modern titles. Eventually I'd like to build a system but I'd like it to be able to run all of my games, if possible. How practical would it be to do a Win98/Win7 dual-boot setup with modern hardware?
What would the advantages of this be over me just bringing a chromecast around or an MHL adapter for my phone? Maybe it is just me but if I was doing a presentation I would just bring my laptop. I am interested in the asrock beebox at least as a replacement for my parents computer.
We should get a part 2 to see how much better they are today
ring ring its the future and theyre still dogshit
Can you please cut the nonsense of asking for likes for future videos? That's *NOT* what the like system is for.
I have the Meego pad, which is pretty much the same, but probably with engineering not as advanced, and I really enjoy it. It will never replace my desktop gaming PC oy my gaming laptop, but it will always be in my travel case when I leave on a trip as a back-up if my laptop gets problems. My kids used it to do research for school and never complained about it.
What's the case they use for the sponsor spot? I Think it's the corsair cube but it looks like it has too much glass
We want to see gaming benchmarks, watercooling, upgrade with Titan X and i7 5960X and this sort of stuff.
Pleaaaaaase :*
All I hear is Arch linux in my pocket
What would be a good solution for a small cheap computer for streaming steam from my main setup to my livingroom tv. Right now I stream to my macbook pro but I would like a solution that could just live on my TV like this stick
Have a few of them at work. Use one in the confrence room so we don't have to have a big box computer anywhere. It just sits behind the TV, ready to be used.
They are shipping with Windows 10 on them now, as the free upgrade has a tendency to brick them. Overall it is a very handy little computer. Put it on your TV at home and keep a wireless keyboard and mouse near your recliner, and you can have access to the internet and everything a computer offers right there.
You sure did provide a lot of information...on your advertisements, sponsors, and site. Too bad nothing of relevance was touched on with the actual product on display...
Who’s here from Linus’s reaction video
How do you use it???? Where does the keyboard and mouse go if there is only one usb???
I wish you guys would include some video streaming specs and/or commentary with these types of devices.
can you plug it in a graphics card?
I havent found one, but i am hoping they do.
2:15 the worst photoshop I have seen today...
I have one of these tiny sticks mounted on the backplate of my PC, its actually a pretty cool mundane task assistant!
Hi I was wondering I f I should get the r9 280 or gtx760 for gaming/editing I also wanted to know anything slightly NVIDIA wise (I kinna want to lean more to NVIDIA)
they say its great for travel but you would also have to bring a keyboard and a mouse and what happens when you run into a standard tv with no hdmi.... YOUR FUCKED
I'm gone traveling about 10 weekends a year, and I can't remember the last hotel I stayed at with an HDMI-less tv.
unfortunately there are some sd tv still around come hang out in the northern US in less populated areas and you will find a few especially in motels.
tynansl1 I was thinking this too , so not only do you have to find a tv with hdmi you also have to be carrying a keyboard and mouse and the wall power adaptor . may as well have laptop
I know I'll get down voted for this, but these short 'read the amazon product description' videos are kind of pointless. Aside from that, if you watch review videos of the intel compute stick, you'll see it's pretty poor in real world usage for anything other than basic web browsing (it struggles with streaming) and powerpoint presentations.
While I like the idea of the compute stick and figured something similar to this would eventually come I am a bit curious if you could change the OS on it. I personally would not want to use Windows 8.... ever and would love to be able to install something like Windows 7 on this device. Even being able to install linux would be a bit better and yes I do know there is a Linux version but it does have a lower amount of ram.
Also would it be possible to use it as a CPU booster for an older system? Like sticking it in and effectively get more CPU power or possibly setting up USB hub with say 8-10 of these and making a personal cloud computing network?
How would you hook up a keyboard and mouse to it?
why do you keep telling me to subscribe i already am subscribed
or u can buy a tablet that costs the same. is as fast or faster which also has a gpu capable of gaming pretty demanding PC games.. Plus it comes with windows 8.1 too so.. whats the point of these?
It is more portable and you can use any monitor you choose
That is, if you can find any monitor available at the moment.
*****
yea well tablet doesnt need one. It basically is a monitor/pc all in one. Portable. With its own power.
***** You can also use any monitor you choose with a tablet dude... plus it has one built in, even a touch screen.
tulp35000 These are not intended to be used for gaming. At work we are planning to use these to plug into 6 x 55" TVs that we will use for network/ticket monitoring and staff alerts. This device would also be a great for replacing obsolete PCs that are just sitting around 20 hours of the day to run a single legacy application. Digital signage, menu displays and thin clients are a few other options that come to mind.
Can I play crisis 3, triple screen set up on Max 4k setting while streaming?
If I make a video on my computer and move it to the stick can I upload it or not?
wait wat
Angry Old Man turn it off and turn it back on?
Angry Old Man turn it off and turn it back on?
you throw your computer out the window the ions in your comuter will do the rest make sure not to hurt your back old man :P
Angry Old Man Just plug in the new WTF-cable and you will be fine again. I had the same problem and it worked out better than I would have ever imagined.
you should wait a bit it will work aventuly have an nice day old man !
The video seems very lacking... doesn't look like it was actually used. No info was provided whatsoever other than the specs and where you could use it. It's an HDMI stick, I already know where I can use it. The script was awful, looks like you picked up the product for the first time and without even writing a script or using it went on to make a "review"
I would've loved to see some testing with this device...
Who does color grading for your videos Linus?
videos are washed out, more contrast please
Its your monitor
The illuminati it's not, if it was I wouldn't say it is washed out
Well, its perfect for me
The illuminati then your monitor isn't calibrated properly
Then its your eyes
What`s with this like begging on all of your videos ?
How do u connect keyboard/mouse?
How would you use a mouse and keyboard? Use them through your monitor? Or use the USB port on the compute stick with a splitter? Also, how much does it cost?
is anyone else here from the worst videos uploaded playlist
1 VIEW CLUB!!
What about using an external WiFi dongle and using it for game streaming? How well will it perform it that scenario?
How are you supposed to connect peripherals?
every video you say " hit the like below " I automatically hit dislike :P
worst intro ever
Ask for likes = dislike
Will my 3x Titan X's in SLI fit in this thing? cause i really hope it will.
This would be very exciting for High Density Compute Clusters. You could fit a lot of these in a pretty small amount of space.
Does anyone know a good way to control the chat audio on an Xbox 360 when using a homemade headset? I have to hooked up so I can hear and talk but how can I control the volume?
Luke is that a hall 6 paid call shirt do you work for the Fire Hall 6 in Langley it looks like it my dad works at hall 6
Oh
Can it be used for steam streaming?
When is the vivostick coming out?
Sorry if I wasn't paying attention, but what about peripherals? What's the point in the tiny size if I still need to carry a mouse and keyboard?
What happend to the portable monitor review? i'd love to see that review!
what i wanna know does this playback movies over wife from my home network? would this work as media pc for moveis and streaming like netflix?
@LinusTech team - can you use this compute stick with displays like Wacom Cintiq or Huion Kamvas Pro for photo editing using Photoshop? If this is possible, the displays won't need to be connected to a laptop and they will make life easy in terms of portability. Please do a video on this. Thanks!
3:12 What keyboard is that?
Did he mention video playback on it like netflix and youtube, or did i just miss it? was wondering how good of a media pc it be for my parents
a one-take demo of it being used on a regular tv (like those on offer in most motel rooms) would've been more helpful than a lot of words, tracking camera shots and static photos
I just bought the device and started the OS updates, and already ran out of space. Ran the cleanmgr but no enough was cleaned. Anyone run into this problem and how did you resolve it?
Are you guys gonna review the pebble time?
How well would Virtual Machines such as VMWare or VirtualBox work in this? Especially on an OS such as Kali Linux.
Can you install programs? This could be cool to put in a mame arcade.
Can the HDMI plug be turned 90 degrees in order to allow for the device to be plugged into a TV that is mounted to a wall and doesn't have the clearance to allow it to be mounted horizontally?
If not, that would be quite an oversight.
Did you guys change your codecs or settings... He seems to be somewhat yellow in this video...
how did they fit win 8 on a 8GB ssd?
I don't get it. Where do you connect your mouse + keyboard?
We got one of these bad boys for our apartment a couple of weeks ago, with a USB bank and a usb ethernet connector you can stream just about any game in your steam library to your couch, and ITS A WHOLE DAMN COMPUTER
What's that Lian-Li case in the beginning of the video?
How much storage does it have?
hey man it won't consist a audio jack?
Nice slideshow, now where's the demo and review of the device in action?
Will this play emulators like nes or snes or even mame
Need to see a video of you using it
Can't tell if it it usable if you don't use it on a TV or Monitor
Amazing proof of concept. Full Windows PC on a stick. But like with the GoPro Session. I'll wait for the next iteration.
This is the first review that actually looked at this at what its actually designed for; a small portable and cheap computer. Every other review has critiqued it for not being able to game or only having one USB port, but this has been quite good as per usual. Good work Team Linus
