Okay, so where's the 5 inch screen dock to turn it into a tablet? And the desk dock for the office? (Possibly with enhanced cooling. LOL)
This thing is legit neat!
The fact that it's an x86 device stuffed into a formfactor previously reserved for ARM devices like RasPi or cell phones, and still has competent performance...
I don't know what the N3350 (or the updated N4000 version as of typing this) has compared to Atom processors such as the Z3735F or the Z8300, both popular processors for ComputeSticks.
And yes, compute sticks are awesome, but this thing is thinner. :3
I am curious though. Now that USBC display devices are starting to become more common...
Can the PI225 be powered through its USBC ports, allowing a single cable solution if your USBC source device has the beef to power something this thirsty?
Or does it need to be powered by its microUSB port?
I literally just thought how cool it would be to add a touchscreen.

You go it. A similar Intel processor is in the Asus Zenfone.
yes and no, there is a pretty big difference, with both hard ware and soft ware, between a phone and a computer running windows, its impressive cause of how "smooth" it was running a "large" operating system(by smooth i mean it wasn't crashing when Linus wasn't screwing with the clock speed, by large i mean windows is a heavier load than Android or Linux)
Been binging ltt vids, and curious about Linux. This in theory would be able to run Linux correct?
Our local library has these for use as library catalog stations using Microsoft Edge.
Totally going to try to cram this into a game boy shell like people do with the raspberry pi
Joshua K it’ll be easier to do on the pi, input output on arm is 100x easier than on this, not to mention the documentation is already there for retropi.
probably doable.. you'll want to find a better way to cool it, though.. XD
gino1313 I'm sure i could get it up and running with a light Linux OS and have Emulationstation/Recallbox boot up at launch. Then just splice some wires and add usb audio, Arduino with a gamepad sketch, and solder a charging/5v boost module to a polymer battery. I agree that the support for the Rpi makes software very simple, but that RAM and GPU on this PC make it very tempting to try. Those were the main bottlenecks for N64, Dreamcast and PSP on the pi. This micro PC has so much potential...and with 5v 3000mah draw it's easily within reach.
Joshua K I'm intrigued to see that happening now, best of luck if you do
Why? as you aknowledged raspberry pis exist.
I don't think you're supposed to use it on 4K, possibly 1080p 60 hz max

I miss you in that office. I feel you had so much more room for activities.
You might be amazed how much better that thing would cool if you simply laid it on a piece of aluminum.
Seriously, just a small flat piece of sheet aluminum like the side pannel of any old PC CD player would probably cut them temp in HALF!
My battery charger is able to stay cool enough to never use the fan, just from a tiny piece of aluminum smaller then a mouse pad.
:)
Joshua Norris I'm surprised they didn't put a fan on top of that thing, even an 80mm one would help a lot
I wonder how good it would run if you zip tied it to the front of a window air conditioner.
They probably should have doubled the aluminum in the case and or increased the ridges to help with cooling.
Just about anything would be better than your hand...did he really think that would help, or was he joking?? lol

Marc TV I was thinking the same thing...
Not x86 compatible though.
I'd love to see them run something like the Quake 3 benchmark, I've been running that on every PC that I've built for just about 20 years now and although it seems to bottleneck at around 900fps on modern hardware it's still a great way to compare the speed of slower PCs.
Smartphones use ARM CPUs, that's a different game...
And you don't have to use a dumbass touch screen that doesn't read inputs correctly more than half the time, so it's *better than a smartphone*
meanwhile i buy a 8core cellphore
Pff, you call that a bloodcooling system? As a bloodcooling expert, and I know that the two most important factors are heart rate and blood temperature, both of which can be put into the optimal range via a large ice lolly up the butt.
Please, don't laugh. The colon is filled with blood vessels and has a large surface area to volume ratio, and can accommodate a variety of lolly sizes. The real trick is increasing pump rate without increasing body temp, putting vigorous exercise is out of the question. This is why the pros all use an unexpected #iceplug, which really ramps up the pump rate without warming the blood.
For casual bloodcoolers you can get some metal plugs from Apple that you keep in the fridge overnight. If you have an Apple watch or similar wearable device, you'll probably be charging the watch over night, so these two products really go great together. Plus the Apple "think different" logo on the base of the plug is a nice touch, appreciated by Apple fanboys world wide.
So can we do a water cooling loop with a butt plug on this machine? It has potential and could provide employment for #BoothFluffers everywhere!
I just use an Iguana. Cold blood ftw
Your right it's so much better than a hamster
Dude. You are not just an expert, you are THE expert!!!
if you think about it eventualy we will have the equivelent power of the current best hard wear in something the size of an ssd
hdmi 1.4 specs for the display and hdmi 2.0 for the hdcp.
easy way to test it find an hdmi hdcp stripper or hdmi recorder that will remove the hdcp and allow recording protected content on an hdmi 1.4 specs and see if it will work on this as probably the full 2.0 specs will require very high licensing costs so they compromise by giving you only 1.4 imaging specs while providing 2.0 protection.
the 2.0 specs is supposed to have no analog outputs, not be backward compatible so older hdcp strippers and recorders will not work on 2.0 .
