To be fair: The plot of movies like „How to loose a guy in 10 days“ needs to have non-role-models… otherwise the movie wouldn’t work 😂😂😂
You forget that in Grease Danny did try changing, earned a letterman sweater and was wearing it in front of everyone to show what he would do to win Sandy back. So the intro to You're The One That I Want, she was a greasers goddess and he was a Jock.
Indeed it will appear every other CZcamsr chooses to ignore the dialogue before and the lyrics of the song since both make it’s not a one-sided change on Sandy‘s part.
The character development makes both characters actually good role models.
Ben and Andie honestly deserved each other. They both got hypocritically angry at the other for starting the relationship under false pretenses, only to decide that they're meant to be together after all.
That is the best rom-com romance. They are together as a karmic punishment. It is like the love god put them together as each other's punishment.
Starting a relationship with lots of dishonesty is obviously a bad idea.
also that all that happened in 10days …like what
They could also be seen as workaholics because they had the need to improve their career in mind through the majority of the story
While I won't strictly classify "The Breakfast Club" as a rom com, Bender's actions towards Claire are definitely inappropriate, and she understandably disliked him, only to inexplicably kiss him towards the end. I hope that she eventually broke things off, for her own sake.
Don't forget he almost sexually assaulted her under the desk.
He even assaulted her. Everyone brings up Sixteen Candles, where Ted and Caroline wake up in Ryan’s Royce and say that he assaulted her (though he was actually drunk, not recalling having had sex and was told by her what had happened), but in Breakfast Club, Bender hides under Claire’s desk and not only looks up her skirt, but touches her, in which he kicks him for doing so. Someone told me, “he just touched her leg” or something less inappropriate, but we saw her panties, and her skirt goes past her knees, so no way he’d see up her skirt by just her sitting down.
And what’s worse was Molly Ringwald was 16 at the time and Judd Nelson was 25, so the underwear scene wasn’t her and she even said she had to tell her daughter it wasn’t her. I actually think if they cut that part out of the film, I think it’d be a better film. It’s a nothing scene and if they could just cut it like he was hiding under the table, it’d be better.
She did more than kiss him
In wedding planner, Steve is definitely the culprit. Mary is just trying to get her coin. And she actively pushes him away. He pursues her.
You should do a list of the top 20 rom-com characters who are the best role models.❤
Yes! Please!
Are there 20?

Agreed, Molly Ringwald has stated that she feels uncomfortable with the casual sex assault and honophobia in Hughes' work. Bender never even apologises for his horrible behaviour towards Claire, and the film treats it as annoying, but harmless. The whole sexual assault and Bender peeping at Claire's underwear could easily be cut, and it would make their ending up together more plausible.
Who watches a movie for characters that are role models lol?
Shhhhh…. Ms Mojo needs a topic for content. 😂😂😂
well, many romanticize certain toxic questionable behaviors because of romcoms and there are people who indeed looking up at characters from romcoms believing that this is the right thing to do and will allow them to help with their own love lives. in the old romantic comedies, toxic behavior was romanticized and there are guys who for sure take such problematic characters as role models.
1. Come on, as questionable as Lucy’s actions were during While You Were Sleeping, at least she TRIED to tell them the truth several times but kept getting interrupted!
2. Was expecting Margaret from The Proposal in here since she did forced (or blackmailed) her assistant Andrew to marry her so she wouldn’t get deported.
3. Is Pitch Perfect a romcom?? Also, I had major beef with the 3rd movie for getting rid of the guys and being too ridiculous for me to enjoy.
4. I know both leads of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days are really questionable and they definitely deserve each other thanks to their actions but man, I still really like the movie because of how ridiculous it is.
Lucy was also terrified that Peter's grandmother would have a heart attack if she told the truth. She was afraid of breaking the old lady's heart and causing her death.
@@deirdrestatham5730 My grandma would call Lucy a chicken who can't live by the truth for better or worse
I don't agree with Rachel. Darcy was 10 times worse. She knew, if Rachel was talking so much about him that Rachel had a thing for Dex. She inserted herself into their friendship before things could come to fruition and she messed that up. No one deserves bad things to happen to them but Darcy deserved her comeuppance. Granted Rachel had her faults but she was just too silent about her feelings. She should have told Darcy to back off in the beginning.
Yes totally Rachel isn't all that bad
Agree! From the entire list, Rachel is the only one I do not agree to be here. She had strong self-deprecating issues and yes, she did have her responsibilities. But she only got what was originally hers anyway. Hence the title "Something borrowed".
You missed Richard Gere on Pretty Woman. I know it's a classic and that we shouldn't judge a movie from the past with today's point of view, but that movie has so much wrong. Pretty Woman has red flag alerts everywhere.
Yes that film has many red flags 🚩
I wanted to pop in on your most recent video to ask if you could do a "Top 10 Chandler Bing Moments" in honor of Matthew Perry ❤
this comment is how i found out 💔 seconding this idea
@@wowjennawow I’m sorry this is how you found out 😔💔
It's already done.
In 500 Days of Summer, she is also guilty of sending mixed messages. She says she doesn’t want a relationship, but shows up naked in his bed unexpectedly, calls him asking him to hang out and go places with her,the whole “play house” at IKEA. Then she suddenly marries another guy and invites him, with him not knowing it’s her wedding! I’d say she’s worse to be honest.
I'm also baffled at many viewers saying Summer's a great girl who's the heroine/victim of the film. If she were of average or below average looks, she'd not have so many fans.
We were only seeing Summer from Tom's point of view and Tom was an unreliable narrator. We, the audience, are left to imagine if Summer ever showed up naked in his bed or did anything else to lead him on. You don't need to be in a relationship to hang out and go places or play house at IKEA. Tom wanted to believe Summer was leading him on to justify his entitlement.
@@andrewq159 When we only see Summer from Tom's point of view, and Tom did not bother listening to her or actually knowing her, the audience was not able to know her either. The audience only got a superficial impression of her character because Tom did. We did not know her well enough to see if she was a great girl.
Don't forget Mike Chadway from "The Ugly Truth" ... he was such a horrible character!
My thing about Something Borrowed is the fact that Darcy KNEW her best friend liked him and still went for him anyways. And if Dex liked Rachel then why would he agree to date Darcy. Rachel got the short end of the stick in the start.
Pretty much all rom com characters are terrible role models. I like when the actors playing them agree that the character is a creepy jerk. That is more interesting than the movie. Joseph Gordon-Leavitt telling the audience to watch the movie again and see how selfish Tom Hansen is was even better than the movie, which was also very good. The best romances are the ones where both of the lovers are terrible and they deserve each other as each other's bad karma, like Ross and Rachel on Friends.
Or the couple in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. Lol
Lucy tries over and over again to tell the truth. Remember Saul, the family friend, she puts her faith in him.
It’s a fool’s errand to rely on Hollywood and social media for role models and romantic advices.
Thanks for this list! I have watched 90% of them and they all left a sour taste in my mouth, for shame they are labelled rom-com in the first place. I agree with #1 pick. I was aghast that Sierra kissed him so he could think it was her pretty friend. It was gross and kinda of sexual assault feeling. I'd be PISSED if someone did that to me.
Holly golightly was based in Marilyn Monroe, no one picks a movie for role models
Funny how I've never seen a movie or TV character named "Rachel" that I have found remotely tolerable.
Regarding Bridget Jones: yes, characters are supposed to be flawed, but when flaws are ALL THE CHARACTER HAS -- when she's like, 100% flaws, without a single strength beyond "cute" and "quirky" -- there's a problem. Unfortunately, too many writers go to extremes with their female characters, making them superwomen with no observable flaws or screw-ups with no observable virtues. Neither extreme offers us a believable, well-written character.
I don't even remember the character's names but 40 days and 40 nights took a dark turn when the Male lead gets raped and the movie expects the audience to find it just a quirky plot twist. I was mad at the movie, not his love interest.
Agreed! And he didn't have time to recover and realize he's a victim chasing that other girl!
Your #1 is a fantastic choice! I think there are two missing here, that are unforgettable haunting videos. Kesha's "Praying" and "Something About You" by Elderbrook & Rudimentary (the video tackles men's mental health and addiction in such a powerful way) Great video, you should do a sequel piece!
Holly Golightly is actually a married woman who has run away from her hillbilly husband, played by Buddy Ebsen, and is confronted by him near the conclusion of the film and refuses to return to him because she is in love with her newfound writer, played by George Peppard. She is essentially flighty and amoral and completely unreliable... KDM
Darcy was a self centered, narcissistic B. She knew rachel liked Dex and constantly threw it in rachels face. Always made everything, even rachels bday, about her. Yes, it was terrible on rachel to sleep with dex but between the two, darcy is 100% the worst of the two.
Robert Downey Jr and Marissa Tomei in Only You
She jilted Dwayne just so she can find a guy who she only heard about as a kid while he is an identity thief
Yes!
I'm a Romantic at heart who hates Rom-Coms precisely for these reasons.
Elaine & Benjamin - "The Graduate" (1967)
I’m going to be honest, as I’m now 30, I can relate to not liking Movies like Becca in Pitch Perfect. Like I do like them, but I honestly have no patience for them as with movies being almost 3 hours most the time now, I actually get quite bored of them. But I still do watch them. I can just relate to her, oddly.
Do cartoon and Disney characters who are terrible role models and more celebs who are terrible role models
Beca's problem is that she's too impatient. She thinks she knows everything and refuses to go to classes to learn what she needs to learn to GET that record label job in LA she really wants. She wants it all now now now now now and the movie gives it to her because she's the "heroine". Also the way she kept rejecting Jesse when all he wanted to do was help her is reminiscent of a guy asking a girl how to get to the library and she immediately responds with OMG I HAVE A BOYFRIEND! he deserved way better than her.
The Breakfast Club is NOT a romantic comedy
I thought “Pretty Woman” was going to be Number One when I saw Julia Roberts showed up on the list 🤣
Addendum: Joe Fox and Kathleen Kelly ("You've Got Mail") are not in "committed" relationships although they should have been committed for being in the relationships... both relationships were essentially sexual with needy people... KDM
I remember the last time I watched Sleepless In Seattle a year ago and realizing just how creepy Annie was, she Only got away with it because she looks like Meg Ryan and Sam fell in love with her at first sight.
Can we just agree that "He's Just Not That Into You" is a terrible, awful movie?
I guess the Title tells it all...
Number one must’ve been Christian Grey
Ms. Mojo
You make such great videos ❤
I ❤ Pitch Perfect 💖
Amy from Trainwreck
Question. Why isn’t Phoebe narrating? This is usually her bread and butter. Worst this, worst that, problematic this, problematic that. You know…
I thought i was gonna miss this top, luckily, i was wrong, what a great top this was! Happy saturday night, Rebecca. Take care and God bless you, greetings from Colombia to you as well.
From the top of my head.
NOTE SOME OF THESE ARE MY FAVOURITES.
Jenna Rink from 13 Going On 30- She wrecked her best friends wedding so she can have him for herself after she left him in the friendzone for 17 years.
Mary Flores The Wedding Planner - How did she keep her job as a wedding planner when she destroyed someone else's wedding.
Giselle from Enchanted- Her true love was already in love with someone else for 5 years and her actual true love dumped his girlfriend of 5 years for Giselle after knowing her for 3 days.
Zachary Stiler She's All That- The guy was a jerk.
Lucy Mortez While You Were Sleeping - Lucy acting like a crazy stalker and delusional.
Melanie Micheals Sweet Home Alabama - She was engaged to a billionaire and dumped him at the altar yikes.
Worst
Anya Steele 50 shades franchise- She got involved with a guy who raped her like wtf.
I feel like Giselle shouldn't be put on this list though.
While it sucks that Robert fell in love with Giselle and Giselle did the same with him back while he was with Nancy.
Thing is sometimes you can't help but fall in love.
If Giselle pursued Robert and got him in the end that is one thing.
But, Giselle was willing to have Robert be with Nancy without saying that she loved him.
Even Robert was willing to be with Nancy as well.
Though it also seems like he had no idea that he loved her till he had to kiss Giselle but he still didn’t want to betray Nancy till she told him that it was okay.
It just happened to be circumstance that brought them together because Narcissa was trying to kill Giselle and the only way to bring her back was true love's first kiss.
Yeah, they did fall in love with each other in 3 days which Robert said can never happen.
But, even in real life people can fall in love and get engaged shortly after meeting it just depends. Lol
It was also obvious that Giselle didn’t want to break Edward’s heart either.
The most common and traditional iconic comedic character is The Clown. Extremely flawed to a ridiculous fault, they are designed to be laughed at, not looked up to. The Comedian, on the other hand, is the supposedly enlightened someone who points the audience to who or what should be laughed at. But then again men and women both can't help but falling for Bad Boys and Bad Girls.
Bridget jones diary Mr lancer quote from my all time favorite show and part of my world Danny phantom this quote is hilarious 🤣
I haven’t watched that JLo one, but like… did he actually cheat with her, or did they meet and were friends and she likes him? I guess I’ll have to check it out. But like. Rom com couples are garbage in general, so I feel like nearly any film could be on this list.
Jenna Rink
She wrecked her best friends marriage so she can have him for herself after she friendzoned him for 17 years.
It’s a big mystery to me how no one during the making of Sierra Burgess stopped and thought ”This is really problematic”.
I wouldn't call the Breakfast Club a rom com tbh lol
Something borrow is the worst movie of love. That´s not a movie of love, is about traitors. How could someone do that to a friend. I not disagree that she is in the list, I disagree that she is in 19 th spot. At least Anna (he´s not that into you) didn´t know his wife.
Boy I don't at all get why Bridget Jones is on here???
I Love Ryan Potter he Truly cares about me.
Sweetest Guy
I've said it before and I'll say it again: At their worst, rom-coms are filled with horrible people doing horrible things to each other for all the wrong reasons. Ironically, it was rom-coms like these that made me skeptical about romance.
Not surprised at all that Holly Golightly is on here…..beloved movie but, yes, bad role model
how cute, you think a guy would get understanding or sympathy for being assaulted...must be nice in your head space
While Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my favorite movies, never have I ever thought of Holly as any kind if role model, and neither would she. That's really not what her story is about. It's about her trying to find herself & her place in the world, not trying to find a man.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is such a guilty pleasure though 😅😅😅
I know right? And to their defence, they are both single when they meet (for a change in romcom lol) so they only hurt each other, plus they are both being played by the two women from the competing ad agency who want to win the diamond guy account!
Even with these traits, I don't think it changes my enjoyments of all or most of these movies
Top 10/20 child characters in Rom Coms (excluding those that are IN romances themselves). Chloe Moretz and Wesley Kimmel are good examples.
Love this video. Put the blame where it belongs.😅
Yeah, Julianne is not a good role model!
Neither is Bridget!
So basically Tom Hanks in one and Meg Ryan in another.
Runaway Bride hahaha
Very good this list as as many women as men.
Ok, Melanie isn't the best person, but I enjoy so much Sweet Home Alabama. My favourite rom-com
meh not their best list
Msmojo leave my Tom hanks alone!!!!
Good thing this genre died out
