  • In this video you see me jointing the back, dimensioning the sides and above all bending the sides by hand on a bending iron.
It takes me about 12 minutes to bend a side and fit it into the mold.
    Filmed with my Zoom Q8.
All music is composed and played by me.
please subscribe for future updates about guitar making and restoration.

I may have watched this video a dozen times. I made a jig almost just like yours and just bent my very first side. The smell was really great! I felt surprisingly confident. It just have been from watching you work. Thanks very much for sharing your skill.

What a great video, a Master Craftsman in his shop ... How someone can take blocks and strips of wood and shape in this way is awesome .... Don’t let the material command you, you command the material 👍. A tree and Mr. Kuijk walk into a bar, only Mr. Kuijk and fine guitar walk out ...

Sir, Having watched luthiers attempt to bend sides for many years now (25 years, or so) this is by far the most helpful video clip I've seen. You are a Master Luthier indeed. Thank you for letting those of us with less skill learn from you. With great appreciation, David Lee

Thank you for this video and great tip with the board around the bending iron for keeping the sides level. I hope you don't mind me borrowing that idea 😊

Thank you for posting this. I'm ready to bend my first set of sides, and seeing your approach gives me more confidence to try it. I very much like your clamping setup for gluing the halves of the back together.

Ad van Kuijk- This is a great lesson on bending sides and some fine points along the way. Seeing it done right will save me lots of time and mistakes I don’t need to make. I’ll be working with African Blackwood. It has to be right! Thanks a bunch.
