- Making a guitar from scratch using some new techniques to get a unique and customizable pattern on the face. The guitar body is made from solid mahogany with a layer of white acrylic, an inkjet printout and covered in epoxy. The resin epoxy coating is then polished to a perfect mirror finish using the Norton Liquid Ice buffing system. This guitar build is part of the 2022 Great Guitar Build Off Invitational and will be raffled off to benefit my charity of choice, Small Steps in Speech.

“And if you don’t have a cnc, you can cut out a router template on your laser.”
“If you don’t have a laser, you can cut this out on your cnc”
😂😂😂
While I've admired the skill and craftsmanship of other GGBO guitars, this is the only one I would actually like to own. Great job!
Man, I was sitting there watching you sand, and singing..."Sand in the place where you live...." and then I was like, oh no! David missed it, then BAM it snuck up on me! I feel like pavlov's dog hearing that in my head every time I sand, or see someone else sand...Long story short, great video as always!
The cutout left after the body was cut out is pretty cool itself!
Could mount on a wall as some decor.
It's clearly a guitar body, so would make good music themed deco
Very cool project. I actually liked the 2x4 one! lol The finished guitar looks amazing! Great job.
I'd love to see a Home Depot guitar. Would probably sound like crap but it would be hilarious.
That guitar top has some cool Danelectro vibes.
Very cool.
That sand delay really got me. I expected it immediately and that was the perfect amount of time for me to think I was imagining things.
If you don't have a CNC just use your laser cutter. If you don't have a laser cutter, just use your CNC. Really? REALLY? ;)
It’s called humor. I laughed. 😂
Yeah, REALLY! You'll be fine 😏
These channels aren’t how to anymore. They’re look what I made.
I love when he trolls the trolls!
@@jerradjohnson1425 yeah, he’s stated several times that he’s done with the how-to and now he just wants to share what he’s inspired to do and hopes that it inspires others. He’s got a great back catalogue of how-to and I think Steve Ramsey still does how-to videos.
Man, I'm following you since de drunken woodworker era, really glad to see you participating in GGBO2022, you made a really original and awesome guitar, I really love it, thank you
Goooooooood lord are we eating good today with all the GGBO invitational builds!! I love the look of this guitar top, and the demo is awesome!!
The pattern you made in illustrator is so cool!!
Aaaaaaaand since I don’t have a laser, I used a magnifying glass and the sun!
It was great watching how your mind worked trying new things. Very inspiring!!
Also fun to watch you and Kelly playing music together!
BTW: if you’re disqualified from the competition, I will have the AAYTDD file a formal complaint.
Yes, that’s the American Association of CZcams Drug Dealers
Oh, the anticipation.... Then finally " 'sand' in the place... "
I love awesome little touches for those of us who are paying attention 😃😉
Well that explains why I just watched Jimmy Diresta make a guitar and then come here and see you also making one, a great cause and great work on your guitar
It is insane how the simplest scribble can be 'graphicked-to-death' to make complex/random patterns using just about any art software. I call it digital doodling and I could fill a harddrive with design alternatives generated from just a single pattern. Your guitar face [I'm a Brit btw] makes me think of 1950's retro diners that I see in many films & TV. It is therefore absolutely fit-for-purpose playing rock'n'roll!
So rad!! Love how it turned out!
We're gonna do this on the CNC
Dont have a one? Just use your laser!
Now we're gonna use our laser, dont have one? Use your CNC!
♥
inspiring as always. great build!
Nice build man! Wow!
Very cool! Since the pickguard is laser-cut, it would be super cool to use the CNC to route the body so the pickguard could be inlaid and sit flush.
Great build! I used to be a guitar builder and you did a great job. Only thing I would say is to use threaded inserts on the next joint instead of wood screws (you didnt show it so maybe you did). Also instead of changing the body thickness and adding carves for weight reduction, you can chamber the body before glueing the top on and it will give you an amazing tone too! Love the video mate, keep it up :)
I watched 7 GGBO build videos today, what a treat! Love your approach with the printed/epoxy top. Thanks from Colorado.
Beautiful guitar, Dave! And the “if you don’t have a…” comments were priceless 😂
Love seeing your excitement in this video. Love how the guitar turned out.
I hope you do a shadow box or something with the "frame" of the blank for the body - would love to see it filled with epoxy so they're complimentary opposites.
I love your style David, the guitar and the video! It was great to see you and Kelly rocking the music on this one too. Thanks for all the fun entertainment and education too!
if you don't have a CNC, use a laser cutter was funny. if you don't have a laser cutter, use a CNC was funnier and made me choke on my coffee... Well Done!
very cool shape and style. It's like a jazzmaster-meets-telecaster... a telemaster? a jazzcaster? a jellymacaster? whatever you call it, it's cool.
That is such a cool design. You knocked it out of the park
I really like your new "non tutorial" style. Great build, great video.
It looks awesome, David! And it sounds great too. Your music could easily be the sound track to a Tarantino movie!
I can't say how much I appreciate your attention to detail its inspiring to see folks who go that extra mile to get everything dialed in. Your guitar turned out beautifully. I really like that you actually took the time to compose a song and play the guitar too.
Thanks Dan!
Huge MSB fan. I saw him in concert many times. Cool that you have his guitar ❤️
He was kind enough to exchange some emails we me. Sad we lost him last year.
Brilliant work. Great job and great technique on the body!
Hi Dave! I don't know if you know this, but most inkjet printers use dye-based inks, and they are not UV resistant and will fade over time. Pigment inks are much more resistant, maybe your printer is able to print with them, unfortunately my little Epson can't.
I am writing this so that you have time to check before you start making guitars using this technique.
Awesome guitar you made, it looks great! Cheers!
Thanks! I’m using archival pigment ink in my Epson P900.
@@MakeSomething awesome! So you have an unnecessary comment, but it's always one more 😂
Good luck in your new business!
When I used to cut thicker material on the CNC I'd do multiple passes with shorter endmills and then use the longer endmill after I had already removed about half of the material. Then you can do a finishing pass with the longer endmill if you want to remove any lines caused by the different length endmills. The finishing pass would help cut down on sanding time. You inset your final/finishing pass by less than a 16th of an inch.
Great work. You are so good at design, shape, and color. Plus the music as well... And video... And humor... And
I was totally waiting for the sand in the place where you live. Wasn’t disappointed. 😂
Your best video of 2022! fun to watch and learned some new things!
I don’t play guitar, but MAN is this thing pretty…. 😍🎸
Sweet lines, swank colours and smooth notes.
Great video David. Love the vibe, humor and the tunes!
Another well paced video! When I edit I like to randomly stop and guess as to how long it's been. If it's been over what I guessed then that means the video isn't dragging and time is flying by. If it's under then I need to pick up the pace a bit. You always nail this with your videos.
Karya bagus ,dengan di dukung dengan alat yang memadai.dengan hasil pembuatan gitar nya indah sekali
Beautiful guitar. Im a sucker for those 50s curves and colors. That pattern technique you discovered could be a game changer. Also, outstanding production quality in this video! Well done
Love the guitar! 😍 Awesome job, David!
I love the paper technique! Definitely makes this guitar stand out!
Always entertaining and fun! The guitar came out awesome.
Great creative use of Illustrator and Pshop! I've used it to decide on pattern scale and orientation -it's an invaluable part of my workflow. Your guitar is beautiful! I have to admit I have a soft spot for formica with aluminum edging, and it also looks great with the white you used.
Love the experimentation. It was a great idea and the results are beautiful.
Fantastic presentation.
Superb. That top is a really cool idea too.
very nice! I love the retro look
Looks so clean and intentional
Awesome video David. Heard you speaking about the guitar build on your Podcast with Jimmy and Bob. We could hear your excitement when talking about the build. So it was a joy to actually see you putting everything together. Thank you for sharing the passion ❤
I’ve been building guitars for a couple years now. That turned out really good looking. If you ever do another with a two piece body you can save a lot of weight by chambering (routing out the non essential areas) on the inside of the back before you glue on the top. Love the music too! Cheers.
love it. great video, grat guitar. loving your new style
Ooh! Gorgeous result Dave, really smart 😀
Great guitar great music David!
This is genius! Thanks for sharing.
Well done!!! Love the guitar and your channel!! Cheers!!!
That's so cool! I love it!
Beautiful
This guitar turned out fantastic David! Your creativity and style really shine through in this build. I'll be buying a few raffle tickets for sure!
DAVID!!! I won your guitar!!! I am so excited, what a beautiful instrument!!!
Bro. Beautiful. Classy. I love it!
The delayed sand in the place that you live 😂🎉 so good
This is beautiful! As soon as the great guitar build checkout stops giving an error I'm entering for this one and Tim Sway's.
Leo’s genius was evident in the belly carve. Guitarist’s drink beer!
David very nice video. This turned out very well there. Cool design. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work David. Keep Making. God bless.
Heard about this on the podcast. Seriously incredible project!
Love the design.
Dave the guitar turned out awesome! The white acrylic layer really ads a great detail. I would love to see your new technique used to make a matching guitar and amp
Gosh dang dude that looks fantastic!!!!!
The Drunken Woodworker shirt!! 🤘🏼👨🏻🍳💋🤌🏼 10:47
That guitar turned out gorgeous, as always amazing video man!
Began the year with a banger, ending the year with banger.
David Picciuto a man on fire!
Fantastic guitar very cool! There is something about this video that hits me just right. Love the art, craftsmanship, skill, and the jams. Love the direction you’re going with your vids.
Also +1 for you and your lady jamming as outro for all future vids 😉
Now that was an awesome guitar build David! Having made a few solid body guitars & an Acoustic guitar myself, I know the amount of time & effort involved. Heading over to the Guitar Build raffle site to check it out! 👍👍🎸🎸
One of my absolute favorite projects
Thanks Dan!
Incredible build, that color and epoxy technique is pretty fire!
Wow! That is a gorgeous guitar and it sounds great. Thanks for showing how you made the pattern for the top in Illustrator, I’m going to try that out and make a new wallpaper for my computer.
Here's a great tutorial on it: czcams.com/video/hOMCDdwgRYk/video.html
I love this build, BUUUUT I really love your music!
Love your design aesthetic. Gorgeous design…again.
That's a rad guitar David, Beautiful! Awesome seeing your wife on the drums.
Beautiful guitar. I've gone down a bit of a rabbit hole with guitar making videos lately and like you , like the idea of making and selling some custom guitars. Setting up the neck etc is probably the most daunting for me but this video is great inspiration. Thanks
Really cool design David!!!!🎸🎸🎸🎸
very classy!
Amazing work, Dave! Really beautiful design!!! 😃
I loved the colors!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Dude you FREAKIN ROCK! new to your channel. Its now my #1 go to!!
That build came out great, really interesting technique!
The anticipation for the R.E.M drop
Your a genius man. Keep sharing. Cheers
Very cool David. Love the printer thing. 500 years ago I was playing around with epoxying fabrics to guitar bodies.. came out like crap, but it was fun. Your project camer out awesome. Dig the podcast too. -Derek
Awesome build! I've always wanted to do a similar top on a guitar but the acrylic was such a cool idea I never thought of that! It'd be cool if you did sort of the opposite and built a guitar using only the most basic tools you can get away with. Awesome video, great playing too!
Absolutely AWESOMESAUCE! 🤠❤⚒🔥
This was so freaking cool, David. Awesome job, love to see you giddy as a school girl over new techniques. Also, Kelly is a speech pathologist? That's really cool. A couple of my close friends are the same here in California. Doing the Lord's work.
Very cool.
Sweeeeet guitar! Not bad for an experiment. Off to buy some GGBO raffle tickets.
very cool idea. i like it.
you can also "print on wood", if you print on a surface that just wont hold the ink and then transfer it to wood. IIRC steve ramsey did a video on that. he printed on the plastic-y film that stickers come on, then just pressed that on wood. :) that will probably be super hard for projects as big as this one, but for smaller ones, that works great.
C'est superbe !
The end result is spectacular.
