I return to Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales, although on this occasion I visit a different part of the dale. Today’s tour starts in Redmire. The end of the day takes me to a gentler place as I explore the pretty village of Castle Bolton named after its castle…..

The village of Redmire looks a very peaceful place Patrick. It's great top see the daffodils in full bloom everywhere. The public house looks a nice building, and you enjoyed the hospitality when you went in that time. St. Mary's church looks a fine building and Grade II listed as well as being of an unusual architecture. The Redmire Force is quite relaxing to watch and hear, understandably soporific. Bolton Castle is so picturesque, and I think that there's many a painting been done of that building. St. Oswald's church in Castle Bolton is another fine building of worship, again, of unusual architecture. The whole area is really beautiful, Patrick. Thank you for producing this very enjoyable film.

I remember Redmire was a village featured in the original TV series of All Creatures Great and Small, as was Bolton Castle, so I wanted to go there because of that. It was a quiet village from what I recall. Redmire Force was a nice walk to do, which is just down from the more famous Aysgarth Falls. Thanks Ffranc for all your comments and for watching 👍

Fabulous video and brilliant accompanying music too! Redmire is really special to me as I holidayed there as a child a few times. We stayed at Swan Farm (which used to be holiday cottages back then, it's a a camp site now) and we always had a fabulous time. We used to do midnight walks up to Bolton Castle, quite spooky, and the surrounding countryside is breathtaking. Thanks for bringing back wonderful memories.

Thanks again Jeff! I decided to make this one on my way to Reeth where I was staying for the following few nights. This was my first visit to Redmire Force when I filmed this. Many thanks again for watching :)

Bolton Castle is also where James Herriot proposed to Helen! It was all over in a moment...."Marry me"
"All right". In real life it took me 15 mins to pop the question and Kim took 15 mins to reply. We celebrated our 40th anniversary last yr. Our friends live in Redmire, have spent many happy hols there over the yrs.

What a wonderful way to start this years films Patrick , Bolton Castle , looks fab ,and the two churches featured in this film , certainly caught my attention , as other comments have rightly said the water cascading over the falls at Redmire Force is simply stunning .and it was great to see so many Daffodils , i always think they add such colour.....Thank you Once Again for sharing , We both really enjoyed this ....Frank And Lee ....

A nice gentle first walk of the year I thought. Great churches although I didn't really get close enough to the one in Redmire. The falls are not as well known as others in the Dales but they are still very lovely. Thank you as always for watching Frank and Lee. Cheers, Patrick :-)

That was great Patrick, really interesting, liked the music too,I don't know how you write and play so many different themes and background music, and they always fit so perfectly.
I could take a lightweight fold up camping chair, and some provisions and sit by the Redmire falls all day, like you say there is something very relaxing about that.
Bolton castle was really impressive,I didn't know it was like that, how strange to have a huge imposing castle in the middle of a little tranquil village with just the sound of the cockrel, the village never grew did it.
When you decide to get back to film making after your break,if you do,I hope so,If you are ever in the North Yorkshire Moors and nearby would you consider doing the Roseberry Topping from Great Ayton walk ?
It's one of my favourite walks,Roseberry Topping I think got its name from the Vikings,Captain Cook used to do the walk every day,his boyhood village is Great Ayton,a lovely little village, his schoolroom is as it was then, and the Church he used to worship in,although the Australians took his house apart brick by brick and rebuilt it over there,it's a gorgeous walk from the village past the 18th C shooting hut and from the top down the lovely Cleveland Way past the Cook monument,a sort of Cleopatras needle type monument, back into the village,it's only a suggestion if you were in the area sometime,I think with your writing and filming and music it would be incredible.
That's for another great film,I really am going to have to take my chair, flask and sarnies to those falls some day.
    Pete.

Ah my first one shot in 2017. I tend to get back to filming towards the end of March in each new year as the weather gets a bit warmer by then as well as less chance of snow, and the days are getting longer with the daylight, so I take all that into consideration. I also have to consider the cost, as the travelling to and from these places where I film adds up and if I'm travelling further away, like for this one, I have the additional cost of booking accommodation in the area, so I have to monitor my budget. Redmire was a lovely village and one of the reasons I chose to film there was I remember the village being used in several scenes in "All Creatures Great and Small", as was Bolton Castle. The falls were a bonus, so it was lovely going to film those. I can't comment just yet on Roseberry Topping as there are stll so many places I'd like to film, but like I mentioned in a previous comment, I would really like a break from filmmaking for a while due to the time it all takes and the costs involved. Anyway Pete hope you do take your chair, flask and sarnies to Redmire falls one day! Cheers, Patrick :)
