Thanks so much Peter for posting this video on the 705 & for your easy & simple instructions especially as I was one of the luckier hams who received it early in 2021 & even at AUD$1800 I have zero regrets ever buying the radio & it's my favourite rig ever.
Curious if one does this out of band mod does its internal filters show any appreciable drop out of the standard ham bands?.
Thinking of doing the mod if I ever take the 705 on holidays with me into EU & can use 4m & 60m as my VK licence is CEPT compliant (VK has nil 4m nor 60m yet!).
I have an earlier release 705 from mid 2021 & the front panel fascia says "D-Star" & it's been an awesome radio working with Sotabeams linked dipole plus 2m/70cm antennas off the Windcamp RC1 mount.

What is the upper UHF RX edge frequency stop after this and do you achieve full RX spectrum VFO continues range from .03Mhz to something like 500Mhz / (200Mhz to 400Mhz unlocked ? - my guess is yes).
It is a question as no one has mentioned anywhere what the unlocked band edges are !
I have one of the first 705 and will be leaving TX locked and asking the questions about RX out of curiosity and well aware performance will be poo as the band pass is only designed to go up to 470Mhz, unless some mods are performed to the filtering.
Diode matrix array is old school from the Icom - IC2 era. Neat the 705 has a SMT32L051R8H6 and ill wait until the warranty runs out before I start probing at it, not that I really care as it is just a kick around radio unlike the 8600 or what ever comes first. The long anticipated SHF version or time for Icom to design a new portable receiver.

I think reprogramming a PLL chip in a CB radio is much easier than working on an ICOM 705. I've heard from other hams that an ICOM 705 and ICOM 746 are easily opened up and when they're opened up it opens up the VHF as well giving the ability to transmit out of ham bands. I would only do this as in an emergency situation. I plan to open up my Kenwood 281a. As far as I know, there isn't a way to open up the VHF on a Yaesu 991a. I've had the MARS mod done and HF is opened up. W Rusty Lane k9POW in eastern Tennessee
