Imagine being a Nirvana fan in 2002 and this shit drops out of nowhere
Dude, it was fucking nuts, and it's been my favorite Nirvana song ever since.
Yes it was absolutely the highlight of that year 4me and any of friends that were true fans. I wish they would play this on our rock station in Knoxville.
I got goosebumps on top of goosebumps. not to mention this song kicked the shit out of anything being released at the time. when this hit, it was so intense seeing this video words cant describe.
it wasnt out of nowhere. it was rumored to exist for years. a version they played live leaked to the internet years before it was released and then the official song leaked months before the actual release ..they even played it on the radio. courtney and nrivana sent letters to radio stations threatening legal action so they stopped. i avoided hearing it tho till the cd dropped in late 2002 and still waited till someone gave me the cd at xmas ...and it was amazing.
@@DannyCosmos No, no you're right. It didn't come out of nowhere. I knew about the radio play leading up to it (never heard it, like yoruself) and I heard it on bootlegs many years before they released the studio version.... i just had no idea the quality it was recorded in. I thought it was going to be a released like other b-sides with mediocre production... Y'know? I had no clue it was going to sound this f'n good. Know what I mean? Cheers.

lol true
It makes you a big Butthurt!!!!
Yes it's true
is this kurts quote!
so freakin true!
I love cobain but he has it backwards, humans fuck the world over and over
When he screams “Things have never been so swell, I have never failed to fail” my entire life flashes before my eyes everytime.
cobain died. everyone mourned. years after, i was born. i grew up, became a fan, and still shed tears when i come to the conclusion that a bright, pure, and loving soul like this was lost so fast. my throat hurts whenever i reminisce this thought. my tears flow whenever i reminisce this thought. im happy cobain found his peace, and final rest. From all the people who listen to you, We Love you, Mr. Cobain.
Hard to believe that this year marks 27 years anniversary since we lost Kurt, the exact same amount of time he lived.
Soon he's been dead longer than he was alive... It's crazy.

Two of my favorite Nirvana lyrics:
“I’m worst at what I do best.”
“I have never failed to fail.”
Mine is "Never met a wise man
, if so it's a woman". So trueee...
"Everyone is gay."
"god is gay"-Nirvana
"Even if you have a cold still
You can cough on me again"

Oh my god, that second “I have never failed to fail” . . . I think that’s the most powerful, emotional vocal I have ever heard. 1:56
That's always been my favorite part of the song. The amount of anger and self-hatred you can hear in his voice is unreal.
So raw and heartfelt! Still listen to this track to this very day
Its failed to feel, leading into him screaming the word pain
@@tickrosefxck I see how you might think that. Listen with a good set of cans. It's very clearly fail.
Listen to where did you sleep last night
Dear Kurt
Today, you‘ve been gone for 30 years.
Even though you died years before I was born, you are my biggest inspiration, the reason I love music and the reason I‘m still breathing.
I can’t believe I will never get the chance to see you live and to sing, yell and scream along with you. I can’t believe I will never get to listen to new songs you write and I can’t believe I will never even get the chance to meet you.
But I guess, it is better to burn out than to fade away. You left a hole in the world.
You saved me and so many more, I wish we could have saved you.
I miss you every day.
Sleep well, Kurt, wherever you are. Last night, tonight and forever.
And Kurt would say....."save yourself kid"
In this times Kurt would say more than ever...Empathy!
Kurt would scream out to the wars that are happening today.
His being grunge wasn't a pose, was authentic. And that's who he was. He spoke about homophobia and racism and sexual abuse when none of the others did. Today he will speak out about Middle East and the richest 1% getting richer and climate change
Also, whoever did the video editing is a genius.
[Edit: The editor was Chris Hafner (RIP)]
Thanks
Truly
I can't disagree. It was... magnificent.
They even got the fact that the lyric is pain right, too!
If you listen to the isolated vocals it surely doesn't sound like pain.
What people don't get is this was written in 1994. When it was released in 2002 it not only fit in with the radio trends, it was better than anything else. Timeless.
very true, his lyrics have a simplistic genius to them..
Kurt was a tortured soul. This was the mix of high energy and subtle that the Pixies influenced him. Those shows were incredible
@@Frankje01 It's funny, his lyrics are complete nonsense, but scarily genius. I feel like people try to copy it, but he just knew what he was doing.

The fact that it topped the charts in 2002 literally 8 years after Cobains death just says how much Nirvana meant. I always go into this song thinking I'm finally mentally prepared for it. However, this song never fails to make me fall into a very reflective sadness when Kurt starts singing. because kurt is describing that part of his life. Literally, my gut instinct tells me he did not kill himself, courtney, and many others used kurt for everything they could get. Keep in mind that kurt was only with courtney just under 2 years, so she did well. kurt just wanted out of everything and away from courtney she knew this and put a plan into action. I still believe kurt bought the second plane ticket for frances, and this sent Miss Love over the edge same reason she claims she dont know who the ticket was for she knows but won't tell ✌️ when she passes many truths will come out but she's protected and connected for now 👊

this song breaks my heart, kurt's life has been so dementedly romanticised. people cry at this stuff like it's a sad movie or something but this is a REAL person. there is nothing pretty about being a heroin addict, about being deeply depressed and suicidal, about being dehumanized and turned into the media's little 'token' like a cool cartoon character. the man was shrieking in fucking pain and the whole world gave him awestruck goo-goo eyes in response. he lived a hell of a life in his twenty-seven years. a hell of a life.
Thank you
rip to kurt. he lost the battle against his demons.
I hear ya, he wasn't built to be in the spotlight and have so much fame with his mental state.. it must have been so hard for him, fame and money doesn't care depression, the last month of his life were horrible on him, having Courtney come to rehab to tell him he's a horrible father and dropped Francis on her head while he was high was a horrible horrible thing to do.. personally I believe that visit and statement was the straw that broke the camels back for him.. I wish he never got involved with Courtney. I believe had they not dated he would be alive today.. he never realized his worth as a person, I think he thought he was lucky to find courtney but never realized her manipulation and how she didn't deserve someone like Kurt. He thought he was ugly and didn't deserve anything.. I always wonder what kind of music Kurt woulda made.. he said he wanted to do a solo acoustic album going in a different direction than nirvana.. judging by unplugged I can only imagine how absolutely amazing that album would have been ... If there is an afterlife first thing I wanna do is meet Kurt and listen to the jams he's been making in the afterlife, that would be so awesome 😎
It`s true.
OMG Did you ever hear his sense of humor & see him talk, smile & laugh...the true Kurt??? He was hilarious! Whatever! Nevermind! Bipolar is no joke....I am bipolar, but it is no death sentence! God damn, imagine if we got an entire album of songs like this. Nirvana's next album would've no doubt been considered their best.
I agree!! It would have been great
Agreed. But this is maybe one of the last grunge songs they would have released.
He thought a happy life would make the pain go away but 'things have never been so swell'. Things were literally never better. The other songs would be less focused on pain probably.
Kurt at one point said that he admired R.E.M and said at least one future album would be inspired by them. Check out Do Re Mi for what that could have looked like.
Gabriel Bennett nah Nevermind was too successful. Nothing nirvana could have put out would have done more than Nevermind.
@@Aromatic-ring Success is no where NEAR equivalent to quality. DJ Khaled is incredibly successful, but his music is absolute fucking garbage. The Velvet Underground struggled to sell any of their albums, yet they were one of the best bands of their era. In utero sold less copies than Nevermind, but in my opinion, it was much better, though that is subjective.
Dude they would have gotten progressively better and better all they did was practice and play that's what made them so tight, they were still very young and developing their talents , they were already damn near at perfection Level
There was no gimmick in these cats this is who they really were that’s what made them so great
This is one of my favorite(& arguably one of the best) Nirvana songs ever. Not only did it help me through some rough times, but the sheer amount of meaning it holds for the band and their fans is incredible. It's one of those songs that feels like every line was written for me--yet it's fascinating how people interpret it and how the song's significance differs to them. What a heart-wrenching, powerful, capturing send-off for such a fantastic band. Thank you, Nirvana. I grew up in the Seattle area. I was 17 when Kurt died in 1994. I went to one of his last concerts in Seattle in Jan 1994 and was at his memorial service at Seattle Center in April 1994. He was very influential on me as a teenager and I was devastated when he passed. What an amazing legacy he has left. Rest in peace Kurt.
Kinda same here. But I’m Iowa, crazy how much he impacted people he didn’t even know and still does just as potently.
I was born and raised in Grays Harbor, Washington. Aberdeen is where Kurt and Krist are from. Krist was from Aberdeen as well as Kurt but Kurt bounced around in his school years. He attended Montesano High 10 miles east of Aberdeen where he met Buzz Osborne from the Melvins. Buzz set up Kurt and Krist with Dave years later. The rest is history. I was lucky to see how his hometown reacted to his success.
I wish he made a few more albums. He was a great songwriter, everything he wrote was good
Check out the band nevermind. It's nirvana tribute band. There lead singer legit sounds and plays like Kurt.
Right there with you. Couple years younger but yah. It was a big time for us.
I often come back to this music video and just watch it over and over- all of the clips… the music and the videos, the pictures it’s like a movie, but we all know how it ends, it’s like a summary of Nirvana and their tragic yet amazing 5-6 year existence, they were too young for fame, all of them in their mid 20s, it’s horrible how they were shoved into all of this chaos and fame… R.I.P Kurt Cobain… the world misses you
30 years....
The voice cracks in the second verse are so haunting

That's the drug kicking in.
they sound so good though.
They are on purpose, similar to hank Williams yodels
It's 100% intentional I think, he's singing with a lazy vocal fry here which allows him to slip into his head voice with ease (cracks you're hearing).
He did this a lot but it's most prominent in this song I believe.
Watching this physically hurts. You're so badly needed today, Kurt.

He was a sacrifice for the Aeon. RIP a Real One.
Happy birthday Kurt ❤
You Know You're Right by Nirvana is pretty cool. Listen to him say "I will crawl away for good", then listen to how he sings the chorus the second time (at the end). It sounds like he's screaming in pain. He was on heroin and drugs but also had bipolar.
I dont think there will ever come a band like them again. Such simple riffs yet carry so much emotion and the melodies man, its just incredible.
For sure man. Nirvana is legit one of the best bands ever imo. Such a big inspiration
Exactly!!!
@@charliefrown6206 without a doubt.
True but I hope to bring back grunge
meme factory I respect you
Man this sounds so good..
This is I think one of their last recorded songs, imagine just how many more amazing stuff would we hear now if Kurt wanted to live.
Nikola Maticki Yes, it is actually the very last song recorded by Nirvana in the studio, and was taped a few months before Kurt died. It's always been my favourite Nirvana song, and to me it shows what might have been had he lived.
paulph12002 Right? This one is raw yet different from the previous works.
One of my favs too along with Pennyroyal tea.
paulph12002 January 1994 in Brazil. Dave didn't even have a copy of it until they released it on the black album in 2002.
If he wanted to live his music wouldn't be so sincere and emotional.
Nikola Maticki If they continued with this sound in their next album, it could've been the best work they produced. Truly is a shame. I don't see Nirvana as being quite as good as some people do, however I do enjoy their music quite a bit, and I feel like there was still a lot more potential left.
Best time to listen to this is 11pm-4am
If you said this song is awesome, then
You know you're right 💞

HA good one 😄
30 years...
Kurt, thank you for everything. Your songs help me get through the most difficult moments of my life
"Nothing really bothers her, she just wants to *Love* herself."
Told me everything I needed to know...
She just wants peace. She is an introvert who likes to spend time alone relaxing
Proceeded by "Let's talk about someone else".
Wow that's exactly what happened she was doing her self and leaving him out or doing someone else that why he killed his self over that bitch
Hola
Todas as mulheres são assim, meu amigo.
It gives more feeling when you realize this was the final song ever recorded before his passing.long live nirvana(kurt)
R.I.P Kurt 30 years ago today
I don't know why but this makes me cry, there's so much raw emotion in Kurts voice ;-;
I thought I was the only one :'(
I cried
+elmexicanochilango The emotion in his voice, the lyrics, the over all tone of the song. This is so close to his suicide note its insane. I'm not positive but it sounds like he's refering to Frances when he says "You won't be afraid of fear" "I will never bother you" "Nothing ever bothers her" That was a big thing with him towards the end. He had convinced himself that she would be better off without his influence. It's so sad because given another year or so she could have been just the very thing he needed to bounce back.
+chumon1992 I think he was referring more to Courtney Love.
UnitedNaishuns could be, just the you won't be afraid of fear line makes me think of Frances because he said in his suicide note he was terrified of her turning out like him and that he was really worried she was too friendly to strangers because, yknow, baby. But it ignited a fear in him that she'd get taken advantage of which goes with the line nothing seems to bother her, she just wants to love herself. Because infants by nature love themselves. I dunno I could be off base with that part, but I always thought the you won't be afraid of fear line related to Frances because he was very scared that she would get his anxiety and depression.
This song proves that If he had lived, he would've just kept evolving as a musician. RIP Kurt a part of music died along with you
He was just getting started. He died in his prime. He was just turning to the acoustic side of rock. And maybe after that he could've kept evolving. I think Kurt was a musical genius who mastered the art of music and was just about to show everyone that he mastered it. Rip Kurt. He wouldve been 54 right now.
100 Percent true
@@dx3thefutureking342 A perfect example of Kurt's genius is 'Radio Freindly Unit Shifter' the guitar pieces for that song is pure genius.
.Kurt Cobain. .Last Days. czcams.com/video/y0xbDCRjMPM/video.html
Listen to "do re mi" to get an idea of where he was going sound wise it was very interesting.
this songs hurts so much.
Siempre te extrañaremos Kurt.
Kurt Cobain was more handsome than Leonardo DiCaprio
He said it himself. He will move away from here, he will never say a word again.
God bless him.
Rest in peace
Errmmm... He was singing about his divorce. Bitch had him killed before he could. The pain that she put him through can still be felt in those words. Can't you feel it?
@@Darxar7 yeah but, still, what about the suicide note?
The signs are clear he committed suicide but how ? We still don't know.
*PEACE, like wtf are you talking about his brains, cmon
Yea rest in a piece
Sorry
The fact that people are still commenting and this video was posted 11 years ago shows how loved Kurt is
Facts
True
I understand what you are saying, but dont forget Chris and Dave, without them, this music wouldnt have been so populair as it is rn
@@luuk5120 true. Take no credit away from Chris and Dave they're just as good as Kurt. Nirvana was a team so they all played a part in how good nirvana was
Look at every other youtube video from 11 years ago lol

YOU WAS A LEGEND, WE MISS YOU A LOT ❤
Defo mate 👍🏻🙏🏻🎸
0:37 when he hits the distortion pedal gives me chills every time.
Kurt took "stomp box" literally.
IOh wow.... I thought I was the ONLY one getting chills off that extortion..... seriously
And why?
@@nat7520 Because sometimes people enjoy what they are seeing and or hearing. If you have never got goosebumps from music you are doing it wrong.
@@nat7520 the hitting of the pedal in protest and declaration of the next line and the frustation that is implied contextually
The way Nirvana still inspires young people to this day is unbelievable. It shows how truly legendary they were. Rest in peace Kurt Cobain. We all miss you❤
I was kinda hoping the generations after me wouldn't feel that powerless.

What does this comment mean 🤔
@@jeremyguitar9871 it means that nirvana was so legendary that they are inspiring new rock bands with their music
Or they just wear the T-shirts because it’s “cool” and have no idea who Nirvana, or Kurt really were. See comment above. I really wish they would get into the music. It was special and could not, and will not be duplicated. The ones who know, know. The ones who don’t are truly missing out.
