Totally agree with you! At first I thought it was weird to have somebody else film it and not the person it is about, but after watching them for some time I realized that it gives you a whole new and kind of more exciting perspective. It just makes you feel more like you're a part of it all by having your "own" persective as opposed to looking down a stretched arm whenever somebody is filming selfie-style.

Jon, If it was me, I'd just get max spec MacBook pro if you intend to edit while travelling, it will be more than enough for lightroom or Final Cut. I'd get an iMac or Mac Pro but I'd just leave them for my home setup.
I would wait for the new Macbook pro.

You are team overkill, get a Mac Pro (the black thing that is really good) and use a macbook pro as display.. easy to travel and fixes all problems.
Tried to do a bit of googling on this, are you sure it's possible to use the Macbook Pro as a display? Would be the perfect travel setup for sure!

I would buy a proper 15" MacBookPro (in MaxSpec of course).
It should be quite a bit faster than your current MacBook. You can use it in "workstation mode" with your display at home or almost any TV in HotelRooms, but still use it on planes, cars, trains, in meetings etc - where you wouldn't be able to use your iMac (unless you only fly FirstClass of course :D ).
For the case that the Power of the MB really isn't enough, the only solution would be the MacPro (for which you can easily spend 10k) - an iMac isn't that much faster than a properly speced MBP.
By the way: How do you care about Backups&Datastore?!
i did it the other way around, using a iMac as display for my macbook pro with "Target display mode". So i think it is possible.. i might be wrong tho
I don't get it. Why don't get the latest macbook pro 15'' with max. configuration and go with that. if you really need a bigger screen than you can still hook it up with a TV.

I've traveled with multiple imacs for editing video. We were doing a roadtrip around all of the US states in a Mercedes sprinter van with desks in the back for editing. and while we were on the road, we would bolt the imacs down to the desks, so we could edit on the go.
I saw the vlog in my tv the image and sound is so damn high quality.... what type of cam you used in the garden ?

Why aren't you using Final Cut on you Mac Books, or Premiere Pro, wich is optimized for strong hardware on something like an MSI GS62?

Jon, do you have any recommendations for washing the douchebag hugger 30L? I really love the bag. I use it for all of my ski travels, summer and winter. Also for business travels and offshore :) It holds up, but gets dirty of course. Any good recommendations here?

The best to travel with is the macbook pro retina obv ! but maybe u can get two imac :p for MC and marb to work on a big screen daily. the new mbpR are coming pretty soon and pretty sure specs will be beast on the max version! do u already have 16go ram and 512 ssd on ur regular one ? its not enough ? btw ur grass is so sick its like a giant pool ! i love the gym session, u have a strong core pretty sure ur nailing the plank !

Which editing program are you guys using? Premiere? Have you ever thought of changing over to Final Cut Pro? The program will pre-render the video during editing, so the rendering itself will save you alot of time.
Hi Jon, Jimmy T here (new account/started vlogging) -- I have a spec'ed out 27" iMac, and lived with it in an RV while traveling for half a year. I'd recommend something with a battery, for sure. High end MBPro, then use your curved monitor as a base station when you're home. A company called Rain makes fantastic macbook pro cradles and stands, then just get yourself an external keyboard and mouse and you're set with a great setup that travels well (and doesn't always require power). Thats the approach I'm taking when I move onto my boat at the end of the year.

I did a quick research and i think you should buy (or keep?) the most specced out MacBook Pro Retina. The graphic card is very similar to the one in the iMac and the processors also reach nearly the same rates, while the macbook is way more easy to carry.

I travel with the same exact iMac. I use a huge suitcase, and a couple of pillows. I also travel with 4 G-Drives, and a raid tower. All in the same suit case. I don't travel by plane however, always by car. From LA to Vegas often.

I bought my iMac from the US and had to bring it to Sweden. It works! I mean you get a "case/Box" for it with a handle on the top of the box. And you bring it with you to the plane because they are afraid of breaking it. I have brought a mac with me for a total of times of like 7
I know action sports athletes now in days do a lot of trampoline training. Did/do you do a a lot of that? Could you do an episode around trampolining? Thanks!

i have a iMac 5k max upgraded and i travel a lot with it the box is very good and have strip that you can lift in, i really recommend the iMac just put down easy and in pull in the box an go. NO PROBLEMS jon buy one!

The best way to travel with it an imac or Mac Pro is probably to pack it in the retailpackaging the way you get it, and then put it in a big bag with some towels or foam. However the customs might claim that you should pay customs and maybe even tax as if it was bought in for example Sweden. But that is only if they check your luggage and if you are "officially living" in another country that shouldent be any problem either.

you can take of the back. (støtte). did it with mine. superstrong and cool, but its 100% glass in the front, so you have do be careful. had mine for rep a few times.. $$..

I'm actually travelling with a 27'' iMac - the screen size just makes me so much more productive, compared to a 15'' Notebook.
You're right, it's absolutely not Lambo-friendly. In the beginning, when travelling in a normal sized car, I straped to to the Backseat which worked fine.
For air travel I'm using a Pelican (Peli Case) 1630. It's perfect for the iMac and some equipment.
A Mac Pro and a external Display, with detachable Footstand, might be more Lambo-friendly.
If you do it right, you maybe could fit this combo into your carry-on. :)

Jon! I can see that you have talent to develop some gymnastics skills! I think that if you did a specific handstand workout plan, you would be able to do it properly, longer and do another handstand tricks. However, before all this, you should do an exercise called Hollow body hold because you extend your spine too much when you're doing the handstand and that exercise would give you a better form and it would improve your core strength and stability as well. Jon an imac is definately not good to travel with, consiedering it always needs to be connected to power. It doesn't have an inbuild battery. Maybe you should look at the macbook pro and kind of "tune" it.

All you need is a fully spect out MacBook Pro 13", and you are good to go. You can even use your iPad as an extended monitor for extra screen space.
How get Marcus this video so smooth and stablelized? I don't think he's using the steady cam all the time.
