#warhammer40k #miniatures #gamesworkshop - Jak na to + styl
On the point of scale and models, Gunpla kits do this really well. Generally the larger "Perfect Grade" kits are full of detail that just doesn't show up in the smaller kits or in the anime.
I just started work on my PGU RX-78. Even just getting the parts prepared for the Core Fighter is a tonne of stuff that gives it a fantastic amount of colour separation and detail, not to mention how nice the pilot figures look.
@@Tarquin47 man, I've been wanting that kit badly. I can't seem to find it in stock. Would you say it's worth the price tag?
@@Triptides77 As it stands, nah, but that's because I'm right at the start of the process, but if it's like the MGEX Unicorn before it, the finished product will be so stunning I can't help but smile when I look at it, very 'this thing does spark joy'. Thought right now the main issue is working out how I'm going to do the decals. Can't wait to the end or the varnish would ruin the chrome and metallic parts, and doing at the start will be a slog of working out what goes where.
@@Tarquin47 I built the MGEX Unicorn. It was amazing and it's absolutely stunning all lit up. I've yet to try doing decals or varnish on any of the kits I've built.
@@Triptides77 Sometimes I wonder if decals are worth the effort but after building 6 Ver.Kas and doing at least a few thousand of them across Gunpla, tabletop and general plamo I think I've resigned myself to doing them. They really do help make a model look more like the thing they're representing when done well.
Back in the day, gold helmets used to indicate Veteran Assault Squad, which was unique to Blood Angels. That kind of slowly morphed over time into gold armor and the Sanguinary Guard, as GW introduced Sternguard and Vanguard veterans for all chapters. It'd be nice to see the unique Veteran Assault Squad come back.
I want to watch Jay make 40k-themed clothing.
Next episode please
need to make some tiny little robes for his dark angels
edit: black templar
Needs to make dick tabbatrds. EOB branded dick tabbards. We can bring back the style of wearing them. And you can make them outta towel material. So if you have schweaty nuts they can stay dry via pats from the dick tabbard.
Need Black Templar Bath Robes NOW
There are two possible ways to go about it, either subtle, so that only fans notice that you are wearing soemthing 40k inspired. Or just go all out and make it super obvious that it's some kind of merch.
I love both, but i tend to wear the subtle stuff more often.
You're right that those bits aren't available in the blood angels primaris upgrade kit, but if you look at the non-primaris upgrade kit that the still sell, the chest pieces and death mask etc. are all identical. Obviously they're not actually compatible with the primaris, but the designs are the same
Was about to add this 😅 Still think it is a forerunner to veterans in 10th (buy your vanguards if you want them now) but I am fully expecting a BT style upgrade box in 10th
And this is the same for the space wolf upgrade kit shown - it's for firstborn marines. They've just taken first-born upgrade kits, and applied them to Primaris action figures.
Yeah, there even was a BA tactical Marines squad with those great chests 💁♂️
@@Kubrzesz they need to bring it back
Good spot! Valrak has wittered on/speculated about this too…
I think for the Blood Angel action models, the designers looked at the older firstborn models and used parts from the BA upgrade kit and the Sanginary Guard kit. Having done a lot of BA kitbashing on my firstborn and I recognise almost all the BA themed parts. Although the parts have been modified to be primaris, like around the neck or the arms. And I will not lie, I like these models, I like them alot.
A thought crosses my mind, is it possible that these models are actually based on the new 10th edition models? (edit: *let's Jay finish talking about these BA models, only to see we're on the same page* lol)
The name you were looking for was the Death Company.
2nd edition was not so so long ago. It was just yesterday!
[yells harder at clouds]
yeah, the 90s was last week right? ...
Thanks for making me feel old jay, 2nd edition was my childhood 😢
Same here. 2nd edition is best edition.
Same here. Guys like us are the target audience for those things...
@@LordBoofhead1 tea drinking oldies, they've got me sussed 🤣
@@matthewsmall8009 true
I’ve got to say, I would absolutely buy those coasters - 2nd edition was the one I started with, and I actually owned three of those codexes!
Edit: screw it, I ordered them.
Same - and just went and ordered a set for me and a set for a buddy 😂
@@converseroo101 same...hahaha
I'm tempted, but I wonder if there will be others like Tyranids and Sisters.
@@JasonM69 maybe Tyranids, but if I recall correctly, Sisters weren’t until 3rd ed.
I would love a second set - there are 10 codexes and the two rulebooks from 2nd so enough for them to do a series 2 & 3
Won't even get 9th Ed guard before we get 10th edition dammit
Guard are really getting shafted
But they’ll push out broken generic space dwarfs that were removed from the game for a reason to begin with
GW treating the guard in a lore appropriate manner
Reset the clock, every time someone complains then Guard gets push back. GOOD JOB
Guard are coming out before Xmas though...
Necrons first got their rules in 2nd edition in a White Dwarf. So you need a copy of that issue. You'll also need a few units (rail rifles, demonettes on seekers) and armies also printed in White Dwarf. Sisters of Battle, Death Watch, the original Grey Knights, vehicle design rules... Even the terminator invulnerable save came from a White Dwarf.
I have that issue
@@mcgheestrees5030 May I ask ya for the issue number?
I actually like the 2nd ed coasters. I would've preferred if they did sets by race. Having them have 1st-9th Ed and showing the progression would be cool
Before 9th, 2nd edition was the last time I played 40k. I’m there too.
I played from Rogue Trader up to 9th and have recently gone back to 2nd ed. Turns out there is quite a large community out there for it.
The sort of fans who are nostalgic for 2nd Edition, are finally at the age where coasters become an obsession.
Also 2nd ed Codex: Chaos is one of the best Codexes ever.
Once those cork coasters get ruined they can become part of a cork tower base
The bit about Star Wars Episode 8 killed me lol, too funny.
I was so confused but at the last sentence I finnaly detectd the sarcasm
I’d honestly like more Blood Angels upgrade parts or even just bring back the old specific tactical squad, Blood Angels decorate their armour and our master attests and artisans
I certainly feel like they're reaching a point where there's not a whole lot more they can do with "Vanilla" Primaris marines, so it's probably best they start updating some of the more unique chapter units.
I know one of the 10th ed rumours mentions an "Angels of Death" Codex with both Blood Angels and Dark Angels (just like the original 2nd edition book!). Would be nice to see Primaris Sanguinary Guard and Death Company + Primaris Deathwing + Ravenwing stuff for starters. There's plenty of characters between the two who could also use an update, whether they cross the Rubicon Primaris or are replaced in lore.
And with Angron soon to join the fray, Guilliman could use some help, especially someone in Imperium Nihilus.
20:22 is when he discusses 10th edition leak. 13:26 it’s the joy toys leak. Before that it’s upholstery and coasters.
The thing about the 2nd edition covers is the art style has a real retro charm without being completely goofy.
19:20 Those Blood Angels parts are from the firstborn upgrade sprue. The sprue only contains one of each chestplate, but the mask, the special halos the grail, the dagger that the guy in the middle hold in his left hand and the shoulders can all be found there, so it is just a more elaborate kitbash based on various Primaris Lieutenants.
The guy in the back left is based on Lieutenant Tomleron, the guy with the chalice is a reskinned Amulius and so on.
The BA models look like they took the BA First Borne Tactical Marines and molded their look on the Primaris. That is something the BA players I know (less than a handfull) clamored for.
I feel like you missed the point of the 2nd Codex coasters, it's not just a nostalgia thing. The artwork has a really nice retro aesthetic that stands out and as someone who didn't play back then still think it looks cool.
I noticed that those Blood Angels have the Assault Intercessors gauntlet on both of they're arms instead of just on the left arm. Which is interesting
Well if your assaulting anyone you gotta use both hands
Am I going mental, are they not the Bladeguard bracers? They all have power swords too. I think they are BGV
Reminds me of a story a friend of mine told me. He was an imperial aquila tattoo on his shoulder and while being in processed to the marine corps he had to explain what the imperium was to his DI. He was being grilled about it until the DI saw the chaos star on the guy behind him
My wife works on licensed clothes. The way it works is, when a company "wins" a license. The are given access to huge libraries of art and asset packs. They then pitch various ideas to the license holder to see what sticks and what they want to end up producing.
cork is absorbant for sure. that is why they use it for wine bottles, it expands when it gets wet to seal the bottle.
I think the 2nd Ed Coasters look neat, but I love the Retro art of OldHammer. I recently got a box full of old issues of White Dwarf and part of me just wants to stick the covers on my wall
So get them framed and do it!
18:00
The interesting thing is, the bits that GW sells are for Firstborn, while the JoyToy Bladeguard is Primaris. It's not a big deal for the backpack, but the cape is impossible to put on Bladeguard without some heavy cutting and greenstuff sculpting.
The same is also true for the Blood Angels. Most of the bits are available for Firstborn.
I started playing 40k at 2nd ed. The coasters are awesome
You know he knows exactly what he's talking about when he's not sure about something. You know it's the death company man
I think out of all the people that grew up with it, 2nd edition was seen as the golden era, often seen as the greatest rule set for 40k for playing a smaller scale game, the artwork was the brightest and most striking, I guarantee Merchoid have a proper old school gamer working with them either directly or as a consultant.
The thing with the Primaris JoyToys, both the Space Wolf Bladeguard and the Blood Angel veterans all use Firstborn style parts. While they aren't usable parts with the Primaris (without a lot of work) they are still existing parts and I doubt it is an indication of what 10th Edition will bring.
Exactly this. It literally made me go "The hells he talking about, these are existing parts." They are just rescaled and fit to Primaris Armor.
Easy! coasters are used more by adult people, not teenagers or 20s years old. So the art fits the target
Those coasters are fire.
This episode just had really good vibes, great personality
The joy toy ultramarines too are amazing, lots of parts from old upgrade kit, if GW will make them into some kit(they showed also a generic Primaris Lieutenant with chainsword, at the moment not a legal configuration) they will finally give some justice to ultramarines
In the future, there is only coasters and doilies.
Those wrist guards are on Bladguard Veterans - originally from the Indomitus box.
I can confirm the neck ties are subtle enough to be used as a normal tie
The 2nd Ed codex art is iconic to 40k imo, I approve
Still up late painting.. thanks for the upload boys!
Think I might get the angels of death coaster! Thanks for the heads up!
Re Bathrobe: fabric stores can order you terrycloth with a duck print. They're pretty easy to make if you have access to a sewing machine.
I don't know, as somebody who is only joined Warhammer in 9th edition, I kind of enjoy the earlier artwork in its own right. I might buy those coasters.
Same. There's something so 90's about the old stuff that I love to look at.
the sub-faction of blood angles that you were thinking of was death-company. the chest plates with abs of a couple of the blood angels models are similar to the sanguinary guard chest plates
"Say, did they capture the 3rd most identifying iconic detail of the Blood Angels?!"
"Indeed, Wings, Blood Drop, and Nipples in all their 6.5" splendor!"
When a wrist-mounted double full-auto rocket launcher just dosn't cut it anymore...
Great video! Made my morning a little bit better.
Going to school for costume design totally made sense. Knew you had that theatre kid vibe about you!
I actually bought that exact neck tie a few weeks ago specifically to wear out in London whilst dressed up 1940s style for my wife's birthday. It was awesome being the only person who knew I was wearing 40k merch. Plus, it's actually really good quality and I'd argue it was worth the £17.99 I paid for it. The rest of my outfit was all second hand so the tie was the most expensive thing I had on. 😉
Those Joy Toy Blood Angels models are made from pre existing parts found in the BA Firstborn upgrade kit
As a few have said the blood angel models are just equipped with a number of parts from the first born upgrade kit. You can see the chest pieces, chalice, 3 of the back pack decorations, the knife, 2 of the heads, and the fancy shoulder pads from it. The front center one appears to have been given a Primaris LT backpack. And the loin cloth looks suspiciously similar to the one that the Blood Angel Primaris LT has, it looks like one of the even has some of the same extra detail on his leg from that model. And the sword on the guy in the back sure looks a lot like that LTs sword. 😂
I still have that Eldar Codex over there *points to where he keeps his codices*
I think I could be up for those coasters, I remember every one of those codices from my childhood.
Some of us remember those codexes! My first ever Codex was Angels of Death :3
The sarcasm for Last Jedi was next level
For Primaris Termies I say they should NOT be truescaled. I think just increasing the size of the armor but keeping all proportions would be perfect.
Dark vengeance wasn't generic chaos!! It was Crimson Slaughter!!
On the topic of "who made the coasters", I currently work in a small textiles company that sometimes makes merchandise for people and theres a strong possibility it can go either way. We have a large number of our customers who to come to us with designs and bascialyl want us to make them work without changing anything, a few places however know what they want but have some sort of limitation that stops them doing in house (like no graphic design team) which means it goes to our designs to put their elements together how they'd like it. Others again just give us design stuff they have avaliable and tell us to go wild and make stuff for them.
With a big company like GW it would probably either be the first or the last. They're either very pushy about what can be made and want no deviations, or they're treating it as just another revenue source and giving them assests without making them do anything with them, at which point someone decided they wanted to make them.
I will never forget the day I had a lv 4 librarian in terminator armor and lightning claws. combat drugs, quickening, iron will, vortex and holocaust.
I have been playing since 1992. I have not read two words of lore. It does not matter to me at all. One great thing about the game, is that it appeals to different people in different ways
Lots of deep lore on the chronicles of Jay today, if you can make that bathrobe then there's possibly another product waiting for the EoB merch collection!
I don't know if anybody else has posted this but new Primaris Blood Angel's figures are out, they're available in those eight dollar mystery marine boxes that I've seen at the local stores (I'm near Detroit.)
Great find! I think you might be right about that one!
The blood Angels models are basically kit bashes. They took a bunch of different pre-existing bits and mashed them together (look up first born BA upgrade spare) :)
If they make new blood Angels though, that would be great!
Next job; moonlighting making rubber duck bathrobes to sell on Amazon.
You know if you walk into a meeting and your customers President has this Tie on. You know it’s ON!😂
The target market for drink coasters is us folks in 30s to 50s guys (who probably have their own gaming den), you know the guys who started back in 2nd ed.
these chest pieces (and the backpack bling too, I think) are all from the firstborn BA upgrade kit. That suggests that one of two things happened, that either GW, or Joytoy looked at those and was inspired, in GW's case to make Blood angels specific primaris troops using those as the template, or Joytoy, to make a set of action figures that mash up the two.
The real interesting thing I've not seen anyone mention is, what unit are these guys? assault Intercessor Sgts. can take power swords, but regular assault intercessors can't. Gold helmets indicates veterans, but vet intercessors can't equip all power weapons either, unless that's changing in 10th. might make vet. Intecessor's, at least the melee version, worth taking. Hell, maybe power swords are standard wargear for melee vets.
That 2nd edition Angels of Death Codex was my first Warhammer 40K book ❤
that robe sounds awesome. sewing is such a great skill (if you haven't seen it, the work of ACRNYM is quite inspiring). Perhaps searching for "terry cloth" might help? Also: if you do sew it yourself, please film it. Such an underrated and awesome ability. Flaunt it.
😮
“A bit of a seamstress” as you mention thousands of hours of experience 😂
This is why I love your channel. Rubber ducky bathrobes. You're living life! On a related note. The most comfortable thing I have ever....EVER worn was an UGG robe. If you find one, grab it.
Death company is the black blood angels who succumbed to the black rage
Second edition is where the nostalgia is for 40-somethings who need coasters
I bought a couple of 4th edition warhammer armies cover t-shirts. They are looking more and more retro with every wash.
The blood angel models chests and both from the blood Angels upgrade pack just like the space wolves were the only thing is the Tabard that you can't get from from that pack but there are a lot of models that come with that tadard
I would totally watch Jay sew 40k themed clothing
@Jay - you should find a good towel-material blue bathrobe and some rubber duckie patches then combine the two
The wrist armor is called a bracer, and the Death Company is what you were looking for!
Vambrace
Bro first codex I had was that angels of death in the low right corner of when you're showing The Coasters I'd buy that in a heartbeat. Back then blood angels and Dark Angels were combined in one codex it was sweet
I got one of the chaos sorcerer robes for Christmas and it’s both comfy and cool looking
A lot of that blood angle bling is from the old blood angels tactical squad
Actually, all of these bits already exist. The chest pieces are from the BA tactical marines kit and the firstborn upgrade sprue
I was really miffed that the plush squig got recalled. I curse the gods that I never got the chance to grab one of those!
The second edition Chaos Codex was around the time I decided to turn my back on the Emperor's light and turn to the Chaotic side of the Force. So that little bit of art has a special place for me. I dunno how much 2nd edition Codices go for in sterling £. But I should check out ebay for old codexes.
I want those coasters! Legit it’s smart as only most of the older generation use coasters at home
🩸👼👍 I would guess the next starter box might be marketed as Blood Angels but will actually contain upgrade sprues as part of a broad strategy to normalize buying extras in separate kits 👍 And possibly a Blood Angel Primaris Space Hulk tie in or more Baal stuff.
Primaris Marine in Tactical Dreadnought armour. Make them beefy af. Like, seriously big, but still that classic Terminator armour look. Make them almost as large as the old school box Dreadnought. Upgrade their storm Bolter to a hurrican Bolter (just smallified compared to what's on the side of a land raider crusader) and buff the power fist by making them have strength 5 instead of 4. Toughness 6. Squads of 3 to 6. All can take heavy weapon upgrades instead of just one in a squad
I think it be cool to just get general upgrade sprues for space marines, since we can now make our own custom chapter. It doesn't make sense to buy a Imperial Fists upgrade sprue for the power fist if I'm not going to use the molded shoulder pads. I'd rather have a few power sword, combi, and plasma options to choose from instead of like chapter specific helmets and shoulder pads
Honestly I hope they make the Primaris terminators like the Tartaros pattern, it would make sense since Primaris armour is based off of mark 4 armour. Plus I dispise the proportions and helmets of standard termies
I grew up with 2nd edition and just coming back to it all aged 40...they see me
hey jay all those parts on the BA are from the firstborn upgrade sprue
I would want a gunpla style version of a space marine action figure model kit. That would be so pog
I want those codex coasters. 2nd edition was the shit.
I got the Ultramarine Necktie. I love it when I dress up nice with it.
As a BA player I noticed all of these extras are from the first born upgrade sprue.. so it's just like the Space wolf 🐺
Terminators are what got me into the hobby. I would love to see true scale terminators.
I have a a kylo ren mug. I think the title of the 8th Star Wars is: Star Wars turn down for what. Thanks gents! Fantastic as always!!
Blood Angels have anti-grav chalice... Keeps the blood from spilling lol.
Episode 8: Revenge of the Phantom Awakens. Biggest Oscar snub of all time!
I think you're off the mark on the 2nd edition coasters. The art style is iconic to the brand and would way outsell new codex art versions
I have almost every 3rd edition codex and rulebook. I'm missing Eldar, Craftworld Eldar, Cityfight, and Catachans. I may be missing more, but I believe I have most of them though.
