  • Probably one of the most obscure and forgotten licensed games of the 16-bit era. And understandably so...I remember getting this game when I was very young (the cartoon is one of my all-time favorites ever.) and I was disappointed in it since it was so weird and not what I expected. A puzzle/platformer is not exactly a perfect game for a 5 yr old. But I didn't hate either. I did beat this game finally when I was in my mid teens and I haven't played it since. But revisiting it for a playthrough was a somewhat rewarding experience. I still love the music, I finally got to understand how a lot of the gameplay works and it was a lot easier this time around. Not a perfect game by any means; more of an oddity then anything, but not the worst either. Glad I played it again.
    Hope You Enjoy!

      The frustration that this game brought to me as a kid essentially carries on to this day. Your game is so bad that it almost ruined gaming for entirely. You should feel bad about yourself.

    I always wished they'd used the Lost Vikings format for this game with Max, Norman, and Virgil being the 3 characters with their own unique strengths solving the puzzles of each level. That would seriously have been a classic. Playing as just Max with a gun is stupid 🙄

      @RentalRewindGaming  Před rokem +1

      Glad to know I'm not the only one that brainstormed that idea as a format that they should have went with back then for this game. I appreciate the game now and all its quirkyness but still kinda do wish/wonder what could've been if they had gone a different route in terms of design and gameplay. Personally I thought it would have been cool if we had a beat'em style game with Norman as a main character since he was by far my favorite character as a kid. I like what we got but yeah the Lost Vikings format would've been totally awesome!

      @@RentalRewindGaming 100% I had the same thoughts about a beat'em up that took place in the future when Max was older. Each one had a different playstyle. Then I started thinking Lost Vikings because it'd be faithful to the original show. I had this thought that Max would be really fast and able to crawl into small spaces and teleport with short range portals throughout the level. He'd have some limited beat'em up Karate fighting against smaller foes, but Norman would be full on beat'em up with the ability to stomp larger foes that Max can't hurt. Virgil would decipher old hieroglyphs and runes that would allow Max to unlock certain areas of the level. It's Max's job to get them to certain places they can't reach, Virgil's to show them how, and Norman's to clean out the areas with some solid ass kicking. Damn I'd love that.

      I can certainly relate for sure. I was a hardcore fan of the TV show and toys as a little kid so when my dad brought it home for me I was ecstatic to say the least. Was rather disappointed in it though since I had no idea what to do or how to properly play it at the time. Thought that the game probably should have been a beat'em up style game or a more straightforward platformer. In hindsight, I appreciate the originality of the game even if it was flawed. But yeah I would have swapped it out for TMNT as well back then.

      My dad brought it back for me after business trip of some sort back when it came out since I was MAJOR fan of the show, still am too. Remember playing it and thinking that on one hand I liked the music and the look but where tge hell was Norman, Virgil, Skullmaster, Warmonger and other villains from the show? Took a lot of years to fully appreciate its quirks but most understandable for those who didn't or still don't. It's a bit of an oddball for sure

    In hindsight, it probably took less development time to make something like this, rather than make something closer to the cartoon. I think something closer to the cartoon would have been a beat em up/ platforming game with some puzzle elements on some levels. I would also think you could change characters on the fly to help with the puzzle element. The art style would have been closer to Demon's Crest or the Gargoyles game on the Genesis. Sort of colorful saturated but dark.

      I was a MASSIVE fan of this show back when it was on cable and I had most of the toys as well, still do in fact. I remember my dad brought this game home from Toys R' Us (along with the Skull Mountain playset) and it was packaged with the "Let The Sleeping Dragon Lie" episode (think it was a blue-covered VHS). I recall being super excited to play it and then being pretty confused by it and wondering where the hell was Norman and Virgil? Of course I figured out that they are in the game, just not in the way that I thought or hoped they would be. I liked the game as a kid but I honestly did not play it as often as a few others that we had. I think I was subtly disappointed in the design choice for the game (add in the Space level which I could not beat so yeah I was stumped on it for years) and was the first time I ever experienced being let down by a game before. Loved the music though, and the options to play as Max's' friends Bea and Felix was a nice touch too. I did finish it years later and I was actually glad that I sat down and replayed the game again since as time has passed I really have come to like and kinda appreciated the game's quirky nature oddly. Became rather fond of it with the passing of time one could say lol! I do wonder though what could have become of the game though if it were to go the more traditional route of say a straight-forward platformer or a beat'em up as you suggested. Would love to see how that could have turned out, but oh well. It is what it is and I do still enjoy it for what it is. Now they just need to release an official set of the TV series and I would be all set and over the moon to boot lol!

      @@RentalRewindGaming Yea I feel like they could have done more given the source material. But again, they were probably on a timed schedule to get the game out and the budget wasn't the best. I would be cool if someone made a SNES homebrew game with a better vision.

      I grew up loving the show and there wasn't a lot in the game that really reflected the show or the toys that it was based off. I think I have actually come to like this game a bit more now then I did when I was a kid when I got it. Its alright, just wish that more of the show itself and its creepy comic book-style horror was more accurately shown

    where are the monsters? i mean: if the enemy creature sprites would be just bigger, at least bigger than max, i could see them being scary... however: not even a single boss battle for each erea? thats a waste and very disapointing.

      Visually speaking I could figure out what they were doing rather quickly but is what I would have liked them to do with it, not overly. Could've been done better but I guess its weird quirkyness is what helps make it stand out to me, whether it be when I was a kid or as an adult nowadays. Just makes me wonder what could've been though from time to time...
