    Do you have a price/piece you typically look for? And how do you account for premiums placed on the price by it being a licensed product?

    • @JakesBricks
      @JakesBricks  Před rokem +1

      Ya price per piece is tough because their are some many other factors that come in to play for lego investing... 10 cents per piece is typical for licensed sets and 7 cents per piece on non licensed sets.

    How quickly does Brickhawk notify you? For example with some of the latest Walmart flash clearance sales, they come in stock briefly (a minute or less) and then are sold out. Would brickhawk have recognized that and notified you immediately when it's in stock? Or would it miss that short window?

    • @JakesBricks
      @JakesBricks  Před 5 měsíci

      I think BrickHawk runs its scrub every 1-2 min or so. You could miss it but its all about how it lined up. I got a bunch of my discounts on walmart during their flash sale from brickhawk. They send you emails in real time.

    I’m an Aussie I get mostly all my sets from Amazon they are wayyy cheaper than anywhere, also Kmart when we have stock I get from there. I’ve only bought 1 set from the Lego store ever cause their prices are through the roof in comparison. For example prime day I got the home alone house for $230 as it was on sale down from $399 - $299 and I had $60 free Amazon gift cards from a tik tok promotion and now look it’s retail is $450 so I cannot wait to build in December for Xmas. I’ve probably spent about $1500 on heaps of sets and saved a total of $2000 if I was to buy from Lego store

      @LouisTheFlyVids Před rokem

      I'm from aus too and also picked up a home alone set on prime day haha.
      Some things I've noticed is on occasion when myer or David Jones have Lego sales, they initially have modulars and some larger sets on discount by mistake. They are pretty quick to change it but I have picked up my bookshops that way.
      Also if you havent already, you can sign up at target and bigw and they will give you 10 bucks off your first order (bigw makes you wait a full day for the code I guess hoping we'd give up on it). It's not much but if you are getting 5 speed champion sets, instead of your buy in being 22 (which is from what I've seen already the cheapest they get to) with 10 off you're looking at a buy in of 20.
      The honey browser extension every content creator used to tell you to get whilst has never saved me a cent through codes is still actually really helpful. When you are on Amazon atleast, honey will show up if you hover of the top right side of your screen and it will take you to a page with mostly US info however if you scroll down there is a chart that can show you every price jump the set has had in the last 120 days on Amazon au.
      If any of that served useful great, if not I still will ask you to team up with me in calling these others cheaters for having essentially the equivalent of batman's sonar device from the dark knight. Unless brickhawk works for Australia... in that case sign me up :).

      @@JakesBricks And also maybe you could say something about what sets you should buy for investing purposes - Im thinking, should you wait until the LEGO retirement list is official, and focus on buying the soon to be expired sets - or does it make sense to buy random sets at cheap offers - even if risking, that they will be on the market for several years.. Would you end up having a lot of stored sets who first increase in value in the post retirement period?

  • @lost.empathy

    I had more than 20 system sets 20 years ago, but now only bulk lego left and some racers and bionicle sets. I even had 6046 but gave it to another person as well as other cause "you have to grow up" shit. Recently was searching for a lego for my sister's child and felt I want to build lego again. Found cool MOCs on Speed collections, opened rebrickable and other, all these sites. Spent nights looking for sets I had (and their price tags ofc)). I felt so bad because I lost almost all of them. But I think some of them weren't marked on bricks. Were they fake, what do you think? Anyways, I was shocked how my brain found and reconstructed emotions, feelings, associations and pictures I got when I built these sets... like, places, people around me. Not even when I build something but also gave some brand new sets to happy bdays. Just incredible. Can't wait to build a new collection) Thank you for you video

      Lol I laughed at the dig but i don't think Lego resellers affect kids getting their toys too much. Lego is produced in high enough quantities for them not to have such an impact. It's mostly going to be older collectors buying retired sets.

      Welcome to the channel David.
      1. That comment got me and I got a good laugh out of it. 🤣🤣
      2. I think there is a difference between scalping and investing. Scalping is when people buy up tons of a LEGO set right when it is released or around the holidays to sell at profit for quick money… which I do not encourage. Investing is picking up sets near retirement for long term holds and shouldn’t affect any kids the chance to buy the LEGO set (well the parents to buy it for them for that matter)
      3. My goal from this channel is to help other lego collectors, like myself, fund their building hobby! Hope this helps
