Welcome to The Frey Life daily vlogs! We are Peter & Mary, a married couple in our early 30's, showing the ups and downs of everyday life with #CysticFibrosis, a genetic lung disease that Mary was born with. In August 2019, Mary started a new CF medication that changed the trajectory of our future, and life has changed dramatically - including our son, Elijah, joining our family in December 2021. We also have an adorable standard poodle, Oliver, and a hairless sphynx cat, Harry. It's our hope that these videos can be an encouragement to to celebrate the little things in life and find joy amidst a world full of hard realities!

Oh my goodness. Mary coming out of this anaesthesia is so so life changing. No oxygen, talking without coughing and no nurses. Trikafta is game changing.
And I just found out it has been added to a Government supported medication here in Australia. Such an awesome thing for the families with cystic fibrosis.
This is the ward not recovery. She would have had oxygen I recovery.
@@bridgwll pretty sure its recovery room..she didnt stay in hospital for this surgery it was same day..
@@kathrynaraguz4816 no she is in her ward. You get oxygen in recovery. When you have recovered enough, you go back to your room where she didn’t need the oxygen anymore.
@bridgwll regardless, she recovered incredibly well and was able to leave on the same day. From memory she wasn't well enough to do that for her last port change.
@@bridgwllno thats recovery i didnt have oxygen at my last procedure in recovery i had it in pre op but not recovery so this is recovery not a unit
So glad to see Mary wake up from anesthesia without oxygen. It is a small thing, but also a huge thing! I got my port in almost the same place. The placement I like (minus the 1st week.) The tube over the collar bone is weird, but I got used to it. The first week was rough because it felt like it was pulling. No longer causes any problems.
Have one in the exact same place too.
I was surprised she was put under though.
I knew they usually gave you something to relax but certainly not general anesthesia. Did you?
They couldn't get an IV in me and so I had the ENTIRE procedure done fully awake. Talk about AWFUL.
I remember them cutting into my jugular, chest, etc..
If it hadn't been for the nurse, not sure I could've made it through without her.
Also, I heard her say her husband accesses it. That never happens here either. I have to go to the hospital every time it needs accessed.
Also, where she has it now is where I thought it was supposed to be if possible. Usually only do it elsewhere if there's an issue.
they put her under because of the removal of the old one...due to the nature of how long it had been in place and her history, they made that decision...she also had it place by a surgeon instead of an interventional radiologist...I had mine placed under conscious sedation..."twilight sleep"...I do remember it, but was sedated...@@srjwildcat3589
@srjwildcat3589 I remember her mentioning in a recent video, why she gets put under.

Oh 👌, Just got recommended this channel for the 1st time so don't know the entire back story yet.
Hope you're doing OK with yours.
I'll bet it's MUCH easier under anesthesia.
I wouldn't recommend it the way ai had to do it. 😂
Have a good one. ✌
I think she had oxygen in recovery. This is not recovery, this is the day ward.
Propofol naps are the best. Glad all went well. Hugs for the babies.
Wow what an amazing gift it is to be able to breathe on your own after a surgery. I’ve been following along time I remember the Lego in my chest song. Glad to hear all is ok. Animals are the best loving recovery therapy. Take care of yourself. 💜💜💜💜
Long ago in a different lifetime, l was a bone marrow transplant nurse. We became pros at ports. It was a skill that served me well for years. You've got this!!❤
The 2nd best thing about this video is Harry ❤ cats and toddlers have no concern for pain lol. And 1st best thing is Mary waking up without coughing! God is so good!
I had surgery twice in 2021. The first surgery my anaesthesia was rushed and I got stressed and “scarred” from that experience. The second surgery I told my doctors how I felt and that anaesthesia was so much better!
It’s so important to have a grate team and to be on the same page
The sticky on your forehead is from what is called a BIS monitor, it monitors your brain waves under anaesthesia and is used to make sure you are under enough but not too far. Oh and I'm someone who enjoys the going under but if I have had an operation (as opposed to a scope) I tend to wake in extreme pain so that bit is no fun at all.
I think this might be my second comment Mary.. lol.. but I am so so happy to see you awake after surgery and NO COUGHING!! So great 👍 Very happy all went well and praying you get many years with your new port! Sending you, Peter, Elijah and little Sweetie lots of love. Lots of love to Ollie and Harry too
💙💗💙💙💙💙
In addition not using that vibration vest all the time is a plus ..
I don’t love the groggy feeling of waking up. But I do like the blissful feeling of when I can’t fight going under. Glad everything went well, and I hope you have a good recovery.
I am so glad everything went well with the surgery Mary and im so glad you felt pretty well after the surgery too, considering your lungs didn’t seem to be too much of an issue. I love how Peter does such a good job and knows what to say and all the other things after surgery. Love you guys and I’m glad the whole family is back home with Ollie at your feet ☺️.
I really hope this port works out for you! ❤ sending prayers 🙏 so that it turns out perfectly 🙏. You're so lucky to have such a supportive husband in Peter. You are Blessed.
I was just thinking I hadn't seen a video from you all in a while! I'm so glad you finally got a new port. I remember the reservations both of you had when you first got it. Your lungs are doing amazing! Praise God all went well. You are blessed, dear Peter and sweet Mary! 💕 🙏🙌
I have had over 100 surgeries and procedures done over the past 5 years. I got to where it was the best sleep I would get. I hope everything goes well for you! God has control.
Well you beat me hands down, I am only at about 60+ ops. Agree, its the best sleep, no having pain is a wonderful relief.
I’m so glad she felt so good afterwards??
I personally love going under anesthesia, it’s always the best nap ever!😂
You're such a strong woman and Peter is a wonderful husband always by your side.
Good luck Mary ! I hope this porth will work perfectly fine for years and years
Hi Mary,
It may sound crazy, but I love the feeling of anaesthesia. Especially the moment when you fall asleep.
I'm glad I like it, I've already had more than 25 surgery's. 😅
Sometimes when they inject the propofol it hurts like crazy, just like you had. It happened to me twice. They gave me a bit more fentanyl iv to relax my veins and that helped a lot.
I'm glad you have a new port! Hopefully you can have it for 11 years or more!
Big hug from the Netherlands. 🤗 ❤
So happy to see you guys! Praying over you! Gods blessings always!
I always get a pre-op “cocktail” as my surgeons like to call it. Love that and I LOVE the feeling of the anesthesia.
I’m so glad the surgery went well and hopefully it is working well for you now!
Glad to see this is over. I wish you a speedy recovery!
Praying for your quick recovery
Prayers & Hugs Mary, Get better & fast recovery 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Prayers 🙏for a speedy recovery
So glad to hear that you have gotten a new port and your back at home. Will keep you in prayers for this one to work for you for many years to come.
Mary, you are so precious!❤️
God bless you Mary. Continued healing.🥰🙏
Gorgeous Mary and Handsome Peter thanks for shareing all you do hope all turns out well for you and your cutie pies much love!
Mary, having the privilege of seeing you recovery from anesthesia has greatly reduced my anxiety about surgery. We usually see people who have terrible reactions, but you seem much more at peace. Congratulations on your new placement!
Glad all turned out well for you Mary. ❤
I’m very Thankful all went super well 🙏 you will be back on your feet in no time. Thank you for the update
I am so glad this one is good! I am happy you got one in a place where it is so much better.
So glad that old port is gone! 🎉 A new, better port and placement. Glad it’s all over now.
Praying for You both hope everything goes well and this port works great
So good to see you. I was concerned when you weren't posting. I'm glad you're OK. I hope this port works much better for you.
I hope this port works much better than the last one and is in a better placement. Take care and heal up soon. 😃😃👋👋💖💖
Mary you did a great job you are a trooper and I will keep on praying for you 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 God bless you guys.
Oh sweet Mary and Peter, Seeing you in the hospital and seeing you in recovery, brought me to tears. Not so long ago, yet seems like many years since you were struggling. Just took me back to those dreadful days for a little bit. Your message to future Peter, made me cry. Tears of love for you guys! I hope you are all better now and loving life the way you want to live it! Sending so much love to you all!❤❤❤
I am glad the surgery went well. Feel better soon❤
So glad that the port op went well, Mary. E
Rest when you can. Stay safe and blessed. Lots of love to you, Peter, Elijah, little one, Ollie and Harry. Jules😍
Congratulations on your new port Mary! Please show your scars in another video where the old port was and the new port is placed. Next time you need anesthesia through an IV,ask for numbing medicine first through the IV so it numbs the veins for the medicine to put you to sleep. Worked for me when I had a procedure in January of this year and my port was not behaving itself to be accessed,so I had an IV in my right forearm instead. Update on my port is that my mom accessed it last week and it worked just fine. Hope to have better luck in two weeks when I go in for my Entyvio infusion and two more weeks after that my colonoscopy procedure.
I enjoy going under. Years ago I hated waking up from anesthesia but the last couple procedures I’ve had it was easy waking up. I’m glad this is over for you and I pray this port works well for many years to come
So pleased it went well, I’m not a fan of Anaesthetics but I quite like the pain meds after! Praying for a good and quick recovery xxxx
So glad that is over with! Harry just wants to help Mama feel better!
Yay! Love you all! Sorry you threw up Mary. Praying and praising. 🎉❤
Prayers all goes well
Great job, Mary!
A great Dr. can make all the difference. Hope your healing is doing well 🙏❤️
I'm glad your ports have worked for year. I had mine for a year and a half, and it was an awful experience. my surgeon messed up and it sat crooked. whenever I would have to access it, it would take the nurses at least 3 attempts to get it right. I talked with a new surgeon, and we decided that it was more pain than it was worth, and I had it removed July 2022.
You guys are such a team. Mary so expertly managing an anaesthetic. You know I reckon the clubbing in your fingers has improved !! Seriously . I work with kids with CF Australia and they just getting tricafta x so excited xxx
Best of luck mary and Peter
Mary - I’m with ya on the anesthesia - put me to sleep and do your thing! 🙌🏼💪
Good luck with your new port ‘Mary’ hope this one works perfectly for you …both 💜💚🧡
I enjoy it 😂 I always cry waking up, but falling asleep is great!
Best of luck. I am so not updated. Haven't been able to watch in months because of my health. Miss you guys. Definitely have been in my prayers. I got my third port last year. They have been a lifesaver for me for so many reasons for years.
Mary you are incredible!! When I got my port put in the area they put you in to recover they rush me. As soon I woke up had something to drink n out the door I went
Had my third port placement three weeks ago . I hope your port is working well ❤
I'm glad everything went well no more headaches about that port God bless.
I recently had my 3rd as well. Good luck to
You ❤
Hope your doing better Mary you did great with the surgery
Am enjoying the fact that the last time you had a port placed. You had Oillie there and you had use elevators. This one Oillie was able to stay home. You did all that walking without any help. That in self is a big win❤
So glad it went well for you! ❤I’m on surgery #24 I have Needle PTSD but I like the feeling of dropping off into being out.
I have to say I do enjoy going under But I don’t like waking up after it. I feel like it’s the Best Sleep you can get and very relaxed. I am so very happy everything went well today. I am a mom of three daughters and two daughters have CF. God bless you and your Amazing family.💜💜💜💜💜
Awesome mary cheers to new port and thank you Jesus. When I got my first port when I was really little which I had for like 12-13 years the port tubing line ran up my neck and I hated it growing up
So glad all went well. Yes, I do not mind anesthesia, if you are nervous they always give me something to calm me down, then I am fine. You and Peter are amazing people. God bless.
I love the feeling of the sleepy meds lol I wish they would give it to me while I wait to go into surgery.
Glad everything is good!
It's been a while! Wishing you all the very best.
I hope you are healing up well. I wish you much success, easy accesses and blood draw for many many years to come. I have had my port for around 7 years now I think. Just starting to discuss with my doctor on getting a new one. Around six months ago it had a nasty episode of possibility being infected or something, we really don’t know what happened but it has never been the same since. Got to admit I am very nervous about getting a new one, but watching you do this like a champ brings me so much relief. Sending much love to you, Peter and your beautiful family.❤
Anesthesia lover!! And love you wake up without coughing fits now!!
My thoughts and prayers are with you 🙏😊❤
So glad you’re doing well, Mary!! You ain’t got no port in your pit!! LOL.. you’re so adorable😊😁
I just got my first port placed last week. I'm still sore from it. My PIV hurt really bad too, but it was when they were giving me the antibiotics, not the anesthesia. They didn't knock me all the way out, but they had to give me two doses to make me comfortable. And, yes, anesthesia is the best thing ever!
I like going under for surgery! I hope this port does better!
I have always ben awake during my port placements and removals. Went home right away! Hope you do well.
I don't like being put under. I don't like the feeling when I wake up. Then for some reason I'm in a fog for weeks. And each time is worse than the last. 😢 I'm hoping your port is a rock star!
I enjoy being under anesthesia as well.
Cause I get to get a good long siesta in during surgery or recovery as well & I take about 3-4 hrs to wake up sometimes!
I generally do not sleep good at night til very early in the morning I get into a deep sleep & then wake up more refreshed for the day!
I’m praying ur new port placement went fine! It lasts & works good for you!
Well done Mary xxxx
That’s awful that you had to go through with that surgery. It looks painful. I always have to have a surgery or nose tube. I have a stoma and they removed my colon back in 2011. I do look forward to the cocktail iv meds I get before I go back for surgery. It’s so relaxing. I hope you are feeling better now Mary ❤
I am very glad that you are doing awesome🙏🌻
I hope you feel better ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Because of you I'm not scared about getting my port for cancer treatment. I've been a fan since 2017. I never comment as I watch on the TV. I love how your family has grown over the years.
Thanks for the video! She's so pretty😊
Good morning and prayers sent from San Antonio Tx. Love you guys
A blessing to see how well you did waking from surgery, such a difference since Trikafta.
I figured since u'all hadn't posted, you we're havin surgery, so I've been prayin. I hope your recovery has gone well, without complications.
I've had many surgeries thru the years and I'm not a fan of Anesthesia. My body does not react well, I'm always very sick.
God Bless all of you
Great job mary!!!!!!!!
I had my last porth placement 10 years ago and I don't miss that feeling , it hurts a lot . Mine got infected after a year of IV treatment in hospital and I had 2 replacement but the third one didn't work and I needed it to come out .
I will be forever grateful for that porth because before it my veins got so damage and I had needles in my arms, hands, neck , head and chest , once they put the porth it was a relief .
Anesthesia has never been a problem for me, with my porth surgeries and 7 brain surgeries I reacted good , never felt nausea or sickness . I woke up and recovered good.
Love the anesthesia but my answer is NO because there is always unbearable pain when I wake up. So proud of you ,Mary!!💜
Cat purring is there way of healing! He prob knows something is wrong! What a sweet baby 😊
Before my kidney surgery my blood glucose dropped down into the 30 s and they pushed 50 mls of D50 through a peripheral IV and I felt like they were sawing my arm off! Good luck WITH the new port! May he or she or they last 15 years!
Yay it’s over with!!❤❤❤
❤Sending loving healing thoughts and prayers ❤ Had a port for chemo so know the drill😁 Take care - we love ya♥️
How are you doing now?
I've had a few ports by now and I do look forward to the anesthesia nap. I also look forward to just being put under so I'm no longer anxious. I've now had surgeries in 3 different hospitals since getting my port and all of them have put in a peripheral IV in for the anesthesia as they say they prefer to give anesthesia through a peripheral IV and not a central line. When I've had surgery while I have been admitted to the hospital and we were already using my port for treatments, they told me they would give me the initial induction medications (propofol) and then look around and get an IV so I didn't have to feel anything in case my veins decided to hide that day. I hope your recovery goes well and you get some time to take it easy! I know Peter will keep tabs on you and make sure you aren't doing too much!! Best of luck!
Im glad this is over and the port has been replaced and i see the operation went well . and you guys are ok for the most part ..
And the boys and animals are glad to see you as well home from the
Hospital .. Despite that recovery is going to be slow ease into the activity
Gradually .. I know your speech is a little bit slurred but not to worry it will come back once everything wears off. I cant beleve its AUGUST 24th 2023 and for many who dont know . TODAY WE START THE OPENING OF YEAR TEN OF THE FREYLIFE SERIES how crazy is that OMG!!
Where did it go time really flew by. GOING ON 10 years💥💥🎂❤💋🌋🌋
Man seeing the cord in your neck gave me ptsd flashback to when I could feel the cord in my neck. Makes me feel weird evening thinking about the sensation of having a port in my chest. Worse when I have dreams about having a port and feeling the pressure in my chest.
I love the feeling of going under anesthesia too!!!!
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I think I’m in need of a 3rd port as well. Oh the frustrations
My port line goes up into my neck also and I actually like it better.
Praying this one does its job.❤️🙏🏼
I didn’t go under for the first port placement or the first replacement. I had light sedation but what they put in my vein, the medicine felt good, like it relaxed me a lot. So I felt them pushing and pulling but next time I’m putting the numbing cream so I don’t feel any lidocaine injections where they’ll make first cuts. I wasn’t given any ice packs either and they didn’t use a peripheral vein at all. It was outpatient at a drs office. He is amazing at that drs office. He put the second on a little above where the first one was. And changed it out to a different kind and it came with information about it. I’ve been doing my own port care at the end of my old one. I taught myself since no nurse would teach me and I changed infusion centers for my ocrevus infusions. And I love the new nurse! She’s amazing and I can watch movies while I have my long infusions every 6 months. I’ll be using 22 gauge port needles to make this one last longer. I’m protective of this new port. The incision is a little longer than the first one and sort of in the bra line so it’s irritating and still a little sore as it’s still healing but closed. It’s the size of a quarter now. I watched your port videos and another’s port videos along with printed instructions. I will be accessing to flush for the first time Monday. I’m nervous to access it for the first time ever lol but it’ll be ok.
Do you like to just go under instead of light sedation and being awake for the procedure? But you rather sleep through it? I like the pain relief and sedation drugs that make me feel relaxed and pain free. I live with pain so having no pain for a brief while feels really good. But I’m so happy for you, yay new port! Here’s to 10+ years! 🎉and to mine too.
Hi Mary I'm so glad that you have a new port. My shoulder was replaced in December 2022. I understand how you felt with the propofol because I felt the same way. I had another surgery in February 2023. I told the anesthesiologist about my December experience. I believe that he mixed saline with the propfol. It really helped. I hope that you don't need any additional surgeries, but if you do, please make sure that you convey what happened. I thought that my arm was going to burn after the December surgery. Hope that you heal quickly and this port gives you many good years.😮
