    “But then we just go to another technique. Yanno? You change lanes you don’t ram the car!”
    Professor Roy Dean, you are the Bob Ross of Brazilian jiu jitsu. Soft spoken, composed, technical and gentle, but a true master of the craft.

    Great series, this is integral to my no-gi game. I just want to add, that when escaping the overhook you should post your free hand on the bicep of his free arm (per Saulo Ribeiro in University of Jiu Jitsu). When guys try to escape without posting on my arm, they seldom succeed.

    Thanks Roy. I like the overhook but I need to develop my technique. I get the choke the way you used to but I am looking forward to trying your variation. I am only a blue belt but I always try to encourage white belts to work with the overhook because they have a good control from which to work without having to be quick and slick ( which they are not ). It's not something that my professor teaches ( another good reason for using it because other guys don't and aren't used to defending it ).

    • @TheBjjninja
      @TheBjjninja Před 5 lety

      It depends on the body type and style. A disadvantage of climbing is getting the second hook is difficult. If you pull the hip or arm pit into you, there is more room for a second hook attack. As someone mentioned it takes more strength to pull the hip though. Also the back climb opens to higher chance for the partner to scramble or to roll and try escape
