    M8s are split 2 to 1 between CDOT ownership and MTA ownership. with the exception of the pure third rail EMU fleet (formerly the M1A and M3A, today the M7A and the future M9A) for the Hudson and Harlem lines all "East of Hudson" Metro-North rolling stock is split. Four of the railroad's P32AC-DM dual modes are CDOT owned and wear a heritage New Haven paint scheme. the BL20GH are more evenly split and the CDOT ones wear the CT rail colors created when the Hartford Line was launched.

      Who is "they"? AMTRAK (i.e. you and I, the taxpayers) own the track between NYC and Boston. It is the old New Haven Railroad that follows the shore and the coast line. It is curvy with a couple of straightaways where trains can go 100mph. Want to upgrade the line? You put up the first $100 billion and see who follows your generosity.

      The MU in EMU means multiple unit. In other words, because the cars are permanently hooked in an emu or set of 2, they're technically 2 EMUs. If they were as independently single sets then it would be a 4 car train. Also by saying 2 M8 EMUs, he's saying 4 cars anyway. It's like 2 pairs of socks is technically 4 socks.

    • @mirzaahmed6589
      @mirzaahmed6589 Před rokem

      @@jasonjohnson892 Yes and no. Single-car M8s do exist. 2 M8 EMUs is not necessarily equal to 4 cars. Also, married pairs are a common thing, as are four cars coupled together in A-B-B-A formation (e.g. most trains in the NYC subway), but that doesn't mean they are counted collectively. Generally people will say a train has a four-car or eight-car consist, not "two EMUs" that happen to each consist of two to four cars.
