Day 3: Climbing the Harding Route on Keeler Needle

Climbing the Harding Route on Keeler Needle 8/10/18. It was a bit of an ambitious attempt being that we had both been climbing outside for less than a year and we both had no experience climbing offwidth.

Watching your vids show that you have good judgement like a true Trad Climber of the past...I started climbing in 1979 with fat 150ft 11mils..hexs and stoppers..pins 1" web with ovals and primitive sit harness's with EB's...no cell phones or GPS..no rescue...topos didnt exsist..just vague guide books with a photo or 2..no head lamps and orginal Jumars.
Keeler was definitely Old School.

how do you free yourself from the double figure 8 anchor if you're leading the next pitch? like at 5:25

Alex Davidson good question. We had to build a new anchor with cord or slings once my partner got up. I linked the previous two pitches and used all my long slings up so I only had the rope left to build an anchor if I recall correctly.

@@stvm a yo finish isn’t a figure 9 though, just a tail tuck. A figure 9 involves another half twist in the original knot.
