- In this quick video I open up a box of Mr Clean Magic erasing sponges for the first time & try them out on drafting film, Pastelmat & a smooth paper. There will be another video to follow but this could be a bit of a gamechanger on at least one of these papers!

I just found if you use a regular eraser and then go over the top with the sponge it helps take away the grease/oils. It cleans up paper beautifully
Great video ! It's amazing how it works on Pastelmat. I have been using the magic eraser during years, DAMP, to clean cotton watercolour paper: it is just magic in that case and does not dammage the paper at all, if you don't press too hard
This is really cool, I've never tried anything like this before!
Wow brilliant on the pastel mat. I use them at home to get marks off walls, but you need to moisten them first. 😮That wouldn’t work on the pastel mat though! So helpful thanks so much.
Yes, you can wet the and use them on pastelmat. It works brilliantly!
This type of product is widely available in supermarkets and much, much cheaper than the amount you paid. So far I have used the product (in my case it's called "Clean Zone") only to clean cups and door paintwork, but dampened (not dry) and am now going to try it on my art work.
Yes, I've seen the cheaper versions now but this was the only one being mentioned online so I thought best to start out with that one. The only thing with the cgeapef ones is I would want to check the packaging gof any chemicals. But you can def get about 10x more for your money 💰
I kept saying during the video “wet it” 😃
How about trying to erase any graphite tracing lines ?
Lol, that is my next play session 🤣
They are apparently slightly alkaline - Ph 8-10. Not sure how this might affect the archival quality and longevity of the artwork or alter its colour over time. I would probably stick to products designed for artwork rather than for cleaning your tub!
They are also incredibly abrasive and can scratch surfaces, so I imagine would be damaging the paper.
Great test, thank you for sharing. Now the question is: what about the integrity of the paper? Can you still draw normally on all the surfaces where you erased?
I tried drawing again on both the film & the pastelmat & it feels great. Def still took the normal amount of layers I would expect
I think the improved magic erasers have chemicals in them though. Really cool.
I thought they might, that is why I stuck with the originals
i've seen people use this on plastic watercolor palettes to eliminate the excess smoothness, so wouldn't it remove tooth from the pastelmat? i would compare it to ordinary cosmetic sponges for erasing ability
I've since gone in with my pdncils on the pastelmat & it feels absolutely fine. I wasn't pressing too hard and obviously those few layers on pigment were sat right on the top surface so it lifted more easily
try use it damp on drafting film...it's like magic....
That's my next mission 😊
Can you tell me what eraser you are using?
Put one next to your electric pencil sharpener. After sharpening poke your pencil tip in it. It will take off any small particles.
I tried them for cleaning and I wasn’t impressed with that either. I really not impressed with them.
That's a shame. Everyone I've seen using them have all had good success. I'm going to wrt them fir the next experiments
maybe if you got it wet
