"The Dragon's Graveyard" is the best episode of the series. Lots of Tiamat, super-powered weapons, and a clear defeat of Venger. Couldn't ask for better.
This was one of my Saturday morning cartoons that I watched religiously. I was 12 years old again when I came across the episodes on CZcams many years ago. Thank you for those who took the time and made the effort to post the episodes and those who researched to make videos about the D&D cartoons. Good fortune to you all!
As a D&D crazed kid back in the day, I'd be lying if I said I didn't remember watching this one. I suspect I'd appreciate it a bit more as a grown up these days than I did then.
The Dragons Graveyard, followed very closely by the Dungeon at the Heart of Darkness, are my favorite of the series. I love how Dragon's Graveyard ends showing Tiamat watching with interest.
This was the last cartoon before Kung-fu and Sci-fi Theater. Absolutely one of the best ever. Too short. Remembering the pain when it just didn't come back on🥺
The Hall of Bones gave me nightmares because of the 'Spider Woman!' The way she changed from beautiful to.... I never understood why it was cancelled. It was so imaginative and the animation was ahead of it's time. We never got to see them get home...
Dungeon at the Heart of Dawn was my favourite; don't think I saw it as a child, it would have scared the crap out if me if I did! It's very dark, even by this series's standards, and I like how DM is actively helping the children rather than giving them cryptic riddles. Normally DM has a relaxed tone, but here he is very serious and we learn his power is not limitless as he is nearly defeated by the unnamed one
And even worse, there's an hidden easter egg in Baldur's Gate 2 Shadows of Amn that hints the possibility that they've been killed by the Forgotten Realms version of Tiamat
This show was weird. I mean and old man luring children into a magical Van(ahem) I mean land? Giving them defective gifts and empty promises. Nah, This s@#t looked liked a child predator grooming tactic. Hell, Venger could have been one of dungeon masters victims that got to old (Stockholm is a bish). Think folks. Master of dungeon. Those kids were in a dungeon. That's why that perv knew where those kids were no matter where they went. Yes, my mind is gone🤣
Definitely one of my favorite animated series back in the day. It is great to have the memories of all these episodes. I wish it could have ended properly but I am glad to have been around when this was on tv.
I miss that show. Thank you for covering it. I still enjoy playing D&D to this day even though I'm in my fifties. I would rather play an adventure rather than reading an adventure novel.
This fantastic cartoon would make a great live action tv show seeing real life versions of hank sheila diana presto Bobby eric venger and dungeon master would be epic.
There was a good Brazilian car commercial that had actors that looked like them. Spoiler. Spoiler to the new movie Honor Among Thieves. The cartoon characters make a cameo in the new movie.
So, according to this show, Loth is a minor inconvenience, while Tiamt is totally willing to help out a group of kids who ask her nicely. My how times changed.
Well she is LAWFUL Evil , and she ~really~ hated Venger. So if they get her to say "I will help you if it aids me against Venger!" she's gonna be true to her word.
the episodes that stuck in my mind the most were "the dragons graveyard" (awesome) and "City at the Edge of Midnight",i could not sleep with my leg dangling off the bed as a kid for fear of a monster grabbing me and being sucked under! lol
I always thought _Valley of the Unicorns_ was in the top three. It explored the depths of powerful emotions of loss and terror, as well as inverting the tropes of the cowardly member and the irredeemable villain.
@@peterc2219 2 actually: one of them was left open-ended while the other made for full-closure. It's just me personally, but I feel an open-ending is better than no ending at all, so the former is highly recommended.
@@georgemercer402 Nah, prefer the closure finally episode as it answers so many questions and brings back characters from pervious episodes. Also, with Presto choosing to stay, it kind of leaves it open for the others to return.
This show aired when i was too young to figure out TV guides and schedules. When i was lucky enough to catch it on TV it was heavenly. I bet meny people saught these episodes later in life to see the whole series.
Suprised no mention struggling to think of episode name think is The star child, with a half demon queen featuring it. Also another episode which featured a really interesting Demo dragon. A creation of vengers so he can obtain a item to control dragons.
I never played D&D as a kid.. didnt care for rpg’s at all but this cartoon was such a staple of my saturday mornings. Ill always have fond memories of this show. I bought the dvd and finally saw the whole series a few years ago including the final ep “requiem” which someone edited for youtube. Was elated when they appeared in “honor amongst thieves”.
Remember the episode where Venger's origin was touched on he once was a hero like the kids but over time he grew darker because of this he eventually became evil or so it is believed Dungeon Master himself said he was like a son to him but that's to say that he might really was the cartoon series didn't truly follow the books or games but there's little doubt the show was popular I also think it seems that these stories were part of Marvel Universe in some ways I think there's a connection with the realm and Asgard and Loki and Venger?
Solid list, but I think I would have replaced a couple episodes, like, say, Beauty and the Bogbeast and Night of No Tomorrow, with Prison Without Walls and Child of the Stargazer. The latter especially, because the end is one of the most epic in the show and even brings me to the verge of tears. The former is just a fun romp with a lot of memorable set pieces (the zombie house, for one) and a hell of a climax.
Forgot to mention that in the hall of bones, Venger was on the verge of losing, but instead brought down the entire place like Sampson in the Bible in order to escape. Now the spirits of those fallen heroes have no anchor and are lost.
I know this was posted a year ago, but this sounds like the basis for the comic book series D.I.E. where there was a group of friends who got hold of a cursed set of dice and played DnD, only to get sucked into the game. Glad to see a classic animated series went on to inspire that series.
Great video MV!! Please make a video of the Top 14 Jim Carrey Movies with the likes of:- Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Batman Forever, Dark Crimes, Dumb & Dumber, Fun With Dick & Jane, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Liar Liar, Me, Myself & Irene, The Cable Guy, The Mask, The Majestic, The Truman Show, Yes Man!
Man, Marvel was involved with several hot properties back then. Not only spiderman/amazing friends, Hulk, but also transformers, gi Joe and of course d&d.
I don't play DnD but I read the books and research the lore all the time. I also read comics and was wondering if anyone who's played the games would know how powerful Venom is in the Forgotten Realms? Could stand up to Ancient Drgons & demon Lord's like Orcus and Graz'zt or would he have to fight smaller game?
"The Darkling "..his little quick Bio is kind of similar to Jeepers Creepers' or is it Jeepers Creepers' bio is similar to that of The Darkling..Hmmm. Heck.. he kind of looks like him 🤷🏾♂️.

24:53 Well, Hank's arrow making a pentagram was just a stylish visual - what needed to happen was for the weapons to collect each other's energy to make a sphere that would transport them all to the graveyard.
@Marvelous Videos - the third episode of the first season - THE HALL OF BONES: @6:00: Venger took their weapons! @6:30: So, how did the kids get their weapons back only to have Venger demand that they hand them over again‽ There's a continuity problem there!

Sorry this made me laugh. Not knocking the list. One of the greatest 80's cartoon. I laughing because it's a top 12. So basically what you're saying is almost half the entire show is better than the other half.
I would love to add this "OG DnD" series as a box st to my personal enjoyment collection. Is there such a DVD/Blu-ray Set? And where for how much? I was only 14yo at the time when I was introduced to both ROBOTECH and TMNT at the same time!
Did you ever manage to watch the final episode when the children actually get home. There was a script for the final episode, but it was never made. Now, you might say, "How can I watch it. Well, there was a radio show telling the story of the final episode. Better still, a group of fans banded together and created an animated version of the final episode, I believe one original cast members voice was used from the radio show.
I grew up loving this cartoon as a child. It'll always be in my pantheon of one of the greatest. They make those dumb DD movies. I always wanted to see this in live action.
I feel like Eric learned a lot from his single day as DM. Likely he kept some of that with him. Also Eric was the only one to see the one known as Pure Evil. So I'm guessing had things continued on wards. Eric would have become more important. An possible tied to the realm for good.
This was easily one of the best written animated shows.
One of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons growing up.
It's in the Top 5 for sure.
So much so that I can taste the cereal in my mouth, memories are a strange thing
same, something about the music from the opening/closing credits got my imagination going.
Me too😅
"The Dragon's Graveyard" is the best episode of the series. Lots of Tiamat, super-powered weapons, and a clear defeat of Venger. Couldn't ask for better.

😆👍

Yes it is fantastic and finally gives an ending to the series.
That's cool, I've only read the script so that would be a treat to watch
What ?! I need to see this

Blue-hj talk Intuguuh Killy

Really liked this show when I was a kid one of the few cartoons me and my brother's would watch together without giving out 🤣.
As we know the Venger is the son of dungeon master
Knew they were related from the Dragon's Graveyard episode
The Hall of Bones gave me nightmares because of the 'Spider Woman!' The way she changed from beautiful to....

I loved this show as a kid. I was under 5, but I remember it well.
Venger is a seriously underappreciated 80's cartoon villain. He's right up there with Megatron and Mumm-Ra .
Agreed and Cobra Commander
And skeletor
It's crazy how underrated he is. Also it's cool how he's voiced by the same guy who does optimus prime Peter Cullen

One of my favourite shows growing up. The Dungeon Master is a legend
The episodes that play with the possibility of their return home are sad, they've been stuck in that world for over 30 years.
And even worse, there's an hidden easter egg in Baldur's Gate 2 Shadows of Amn that hints the possibility that they've been killed by the Forgotten Realms version of Tiamat

Still love the Servant of Evil episode for having Strongheart the Paladin in it.
In the unaired episode Requim, Presto did choose to stay in the Realm.
... he probably ran back to Varla and her village. ;)
AS someone that played D&D before this, i was disappointed in the lack of following the rules, but i still LOVE the cartoon!
Can you imagine a combination of both? 😱

Only if they use this series as a template and go with more ideas and characters from the games. Also don't use the kids from this series.
