I love to see content creators such as yourself get so excited over a DVD. There are so many creators that seem to hate everything. Thanks for being a breath of fresh air.
It was a poster there, I had that poster hung up on my door as a teenager. This dvd release was actually my first experience with the Evil Dead which ended up becoming my all time favorite series.
Weird to say that dvd set is nostalgic now but I’ll never forget using money from my first job to buy all these horror dvds and that was one of the ones that started it all.
In fact, I confirm it, no 4k or 8k or 16k has a chance against the transfer/print of this edition.
It doesn't matter what others tell you, the majority always speak without having any idea of anything.
The Widescreen and Full-Frame versions in this edition are the most crisp and the most clean versions of THE EVIL DEAD (1981) in existence and no other transfer/print will ever beat them, that's a true fact.
Also, this is the film in its original colors, there will never be a purer, more pristine transfer/print than those in this edition.
Dawn Of The Dead Ultimate Edition. Anchor Bay was so awesome!
💯
I remember saving up back in 2009 (freshman in HS) to get both this and the Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition. Both of them still sit proudly in my collection all these years later.
Dawn of the Dead 2004 Ultimate box set was the best, in my opinion ... I bought that TCM you showed on the first day it was released, and it came with a tin with the cover art, and it's on my wall still to this day....
So happy that I have this release in my collection. It really is a stunning piece from Anchor Bay. 💯🔥🖤🤘🏻
I've lost count how many times I've bought Evil Dead on DVD and Blu-ray lol
Literally just watched this dvd last night. I bought it when it came out
It is a nice set indeed. Lionsgate did one as well but instead of being digibook fold-out they did a standard DVD case, same 3 discs with poster. Also - that artwork in the big set (not behind the discs but the other side) were used as the art for individual jewel case DVD releases. Awesome stuff!
Simply put just a beautiful edition. CHH.
I’m very glad I have this addition of the evil dead and the Texas chainsaw massacre remake. They are both very good.
I bought this when it first came out. I worked at Suncoast in the heyday of Anchor Bay and each week when we got our shipments in it was like Christmas seeing all the new releases from Anchor Bay and some of the older titles we would restock. I remember them sending us a bunch of titles to put in our dump bin and they were super cheap like $5. I remember one of them being “Even Dwarves started small” which had a commentary track with Werner Herzog and Crispin Glover. lol
Great video! I remember getting this at best Buy when it was new and I love this edition! I love that it has different poster art behind the discs and the images on the discs themselves. And it has a ton of great features and a nice booklet. A little fun fact about this release is that on some of the releases the blue background is lighter and not as dark. I saw that when theHorrorman did his video of his collection years ago. One of the best releases of the movie that they have put out!
Anchor bay RULES ❤
You can tell that releases back then had more TLC than most of our releases today. Once the greedy people found out how much $$ they could make they started cutting corners.
I have foolishly sold my movie collection off twice…. However; I have kept this DVD every time I’ve sold everything off and even when I left DVD behind for Blu-Ray. This is probably my favorite collector’s edition ever.
Did it come with a booklet? Mine just has the poster
Yes, it was a poster there, folded down to approx. 4.75" x 7.5", 1/8 of the full size 14.6" x 18.9"
One side with the same as the cover, and the reverse as the same image from behind the second disc. Slight difference is the title lettering, instead of being a blue with a white outline, it has white lettering with a slime-green outline to it
Wildly enough, I picked up this edition somewhere between 2007-2012 at a more unusual place. It was at a drugstore next to where I was working. They'd often had an occasional small bin of (I think) previously viewed DVD's. One day I dropped in and they had a full wall display, about 6 feet high and about 20 feet long, all covers facing out. Most of the DVD's were $5 and all had plastic wrap, I wasn't even sure if they were new or rewraps. The Evil Dead one stood out due to it's size alone. It was $10 but no way was I passing up on that one. When I opened it, it looked like nothing had ever been touched, no broken retention hubs, poster intact with no visible fingerprints, not even any corner scuffing on the case. So I was guessing none of the discs had even been played. I probably only bought less than a dozen DVD's from there, but that one was a steal of a deal
My copy has a slipcover (same artwork as book) and a two sided poster inside (painted one sheet and photo one sheet). Cool you picked it up.
I don’t think you can own too many copies of ED & ED2.
I actually bought mine at an FYE about 10 years ago and I still I have the set and the poster hanging up.
I picked this up on a whim, at the same time I bought the limted Robocop Arrow edition. What a great find. Has the sleeve and poster too.
I revisited this release today because of you. It's definitely a good one.
All of the artwork panels inside the case were used also on earlier Anchor Bay/Video Treasures VHS editions.
Killer release, can't beat that for the price you paid. I remember seeing that release but I just have a regular Anchor Bay one from 2002 but its came with a Ladies of the Evil Dead booklet inside which I loved Anchor including things like that which became what Arrow and others would adopt.
They made some awesome Evil Dead DVDs, but I think Anchor Bay’s best DVD they ever made was the 4 disc Ultimate Edition Divimax Dawn of the Dead.
Killer choice! The Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition is probably my favorite Anchor Bay set, but this is still a beast of a release! The Bay definitely impacted a bunch of my paychecks with their Evil Dead reissues over the years. Haha
I used to have the vanilla Anchor Bay Evil Dead DVD till I got the Ultimate Edition a few years ago. As far as I'm concerned, it's the definitive The Evil Dead release.
Awesome video Planet CHH hope you're well my awesome friend . yeah I have release of Evil Dead it's awesome .it's definitely one of Anchor Bay's best releases .
I got this release back when it came out and I love it. I was really hoping Arrow would have done a similar artstyle/layout with vintage artowrk for the Hellrsiser 4K set rather than the generic digital artstyle the used. I remember when Anchor Bay changed over to the "modernized" sailboat logo. I never liked it, even back then lol.
This is actually the only physical copy of Evil Dead I've ever owned. lol Still have it on my shelf.
I have so many editions of this classic. I stumbled upon this set on eBay about 5 or so years ago and have since been a hording collector on that and added two more copies to my Evil Dead collection - all practically mint, and complete across the three with the booklet/poster, and each under $20. I think one I won with a $10 bid. Love dipping back into Anchor Bay DVDs often.
I have that same TCM '03 DVD but I never owned that Evil Dead one, I just had the Book/Dead edition.
I have this release. I got it at FYE in 2014 maybe. I feel like it gets slept on!
Finally, someone who also prefers Evil Dead over Evil Dead 2. The mood of the film heavier and more atmospheric. That tone and feel is missing as the franchise carried forward.
i own the Evil dead; groovy collection bluray 4k set but i never saw that anchor bay set. looks nice dude
If you can still find it for a reasonably good price on DVD. Try looking for it in Naturom Demonto book. When we had an FYE I remember seeing it long before the popularity of Blu-ray and 4K. I'm not exactly sure how many discs come in it I just know that it was a special edition DVD release of it that looks exactly like the book they read in the movie
The UK poster of Evil Dead is something special
If you enjoy unnecessarily deluxe packaging, try to find the Vista Series of Pearl Harbor. Unfortunately the move is Pearl Harbor, but as far as releases by a major studio of a mainstream film go, that was a real high water mark.
Momento is a great dvd releease. Has a hidden feature where you can watch the movie in reverse
There’s a great vhs limited edition release of the original evil dead which was a purple forest background that had one of the deadites (the demon zombie creature) face in the background. It was so cool looking and I believe it was from anchor bay as well.
Currently looking at my copy which still has the poster. Its a 2-sided poster. On one side is the front cover image with that blue background (and the famous Stephen King review), and on the other side is the photo of that same image found on the Disc 2 panel.
I like the 2 disc lenticular dvd for Halloween from anchor bay more. It is sadly still the only way to watch the extended cut of Halloween with the original audio.
Thx broski 🤘😎🤘
The art you think was foreign was done by Tom Sullivan who did the stop motion animation in the film.
The 4k and blu-ray disc of Evil Dead in the Evil Dead: Groovy Collection are 4:3.
I don’t know if it’s the best DVD release ever, but it is by far the best Evil Dead release ever.
Love this movie I have this collection told agree with you
Nice tshirt!
You’re also missing the slip cover.
I just pre-ordered the Godzilla Minus One Japan collectors edition and Second Sights The Hitcher 4k. RIP to my wallet. 😂😂
I had the Necronomicon version on DVD, but it disintegrated
While a very cool release in its own right, the title of best Anchor Bay DVD release will always belong to the Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition
Unless you have the giant 4K and blu-ray set with the ash v evil dead series this dvd set is the only way to get all the bonus features. The evil dead also had a Best Buy exclusive blu-ray that had the same bonus disc that giant set as.
The poster & little booklet, more like a pamphlet, is a nice set.
All of these are the edited version with a different color grade and music/ effects but it is the nicest version. I’d rank them VHS hbo, dvd anchor bay, 4K lionsgate & LD elite. One of the only franchise I can say the vhs is still the only way to see the original version
spoiler: it went up in price on ebay lol
Nice
Can you talk about Superbit DVD’s
You're banking on these DVD collabs, huh? 🤣
