What they should've done is use the hard boxes for their 4K line, missed opportunity.

Collectors would pay a couple bucks more for a hard case. The Halloween hard boxes are great.

They did do a few other hard boxes. Nightbreed was a big one and more recently the jfk 4k but that was technically under the shout brand.

I am so glad you made this video to start this conversation. One of my biggest problems with the Creepshow 4K release was the packaging. I was hugely let down by the fact that they didn’t do a hard release like they did with the Blu-ray with a booklet. it was a huge bummer. I’ll admit it, I’m firstly a film fan- but that doesn’t mean I want the film in a lesser than kind of packaging, when I know they are capable of more. They’d get more money from me for sure if they stepped it up

I found out the other day that they don't call themselves "Scream Factory" anymore. They had a new logo that read "Scream Studios" on the Killer Klowns 4k blu ray which Shout Studios created ZERO extra features for. As fans we support a companies, and help them grow. Sadly, it seems that all companies seem to care about is growth which for Shout would mean being more than just a distributer of content from other studios. Seems like their wish is to not be a distributer, but to produce their own films like Lions Gates, and Miramax that came before them. That's great for them, but bad for the fans. They will put less quality and effort into each release as they have their sights / resources set on something bigger. There was a time back in the 90s when SONY was only known for producing the best quality tvs on the market. Now SONY is a major film studio, and they own Columbia Tristar.

I found that Creepshow hardbox at FYE brand new few months back for 20 bucks but all other scream factory stuff on blu ray was 25 to 35 and barely any had slips even with them.

I really appreciate your content. I think you might be the only content creator that is in the upper tiers with this community to highlight older DVD releases. It’s really surprising how much went into those older releases as far as packaging and special features back in the day. For example, of the lord of the rings trilogy. Those were amazing releases with insane features.
Also, I recently grabbed the African Queen (Bogart) it’s a commemorative edition VHS (DVD was also released but it was so cool and I’m just going to slip my Kino Blu-ray into the set) It’s huge and contains large quality prints, as well as a hardcover book and softcover screen adaptation
    anyways…
Keep up the great work Dude!! Loving it!

The rigid hard box slips are my favorites out of any type. I hate the standard slip covers for how easy they are to damage, and how annoying it is to try and get the movie out of them sometimes. These hard boxes solve both issues by being sturdy and easy to get the title out. They also look and feel premium. I really wish these were done more.

Speaking of that Elvira haunted Hills Blu-ray that actually brings up a pretty interesting story on how I got my copy for a steal.
I was on eBay scrolling around and I find a listing for it and it seemed pretty normal except the price tag that the seller listed was $2.
I went ahead and ordered it as fast as I could fully expecting it to be canceled and you know receiving a message from the seller telling me that they messed up the price and that they’re going to adjust it and cancel the order.
so I waited for that to happen. a few days went by and I still never received a cancellation order so I figured it was just gonna take a couple more days.
A few days later, I got a message that the movie had shipped, but I still didn’t believe that it was actually happening. It has to be a mistake. There’s no way I’m actually gonna get this for two dollars.
I get a notification that a box arrived at my house. I take it inside and open it and sure enough there it was Elvira’s haunted Hills for $2. I open the case and the disc was there. It’s probably one of the best deals I’ve ever gotten.

Scream Factory just feels like it's all about cutting corners now. Maximum profit for minimum effort. Don't get me wrong, I love many of their movies, it just seems like the effort is gone from them.

I collect a lot of Arrow stuff and really dig the hard box releases. Oddly enough though the first hard box release I owned was the Nightbreed 3-disc set from SF back in 2014/15. Shame they didn't stick with it. Especially for their Collector's series. All we get now is the choice between a couple of slips or a steelbook. Also, why is the newly commissioned artwork for the CE releases still relegated to their respective blu-rays and not carried over to the 4K editions? Maybe a licensing issue with the artists? I dunno.

Scream factory wants to go the Cheap route and not keep up with their competitors. Their competitors are blowing them away and they don’t care. Not only that Shout has some of the worst customer service I have ever dealt with! Had issues with an order and they didn’t care and didn’t resolve the issue!

While I enjoy both slip covers and hard shell boxes , if a hard shell is available I’d go with that . I like the Scream Factory versions so much as they seem to be smaller and not as bulky as other boutique companies hard shell cases.
My best guess as to why we aren’t seeing them as much now (from scream factory ) is perhaps the cost . Even a bulk manufacturing of the slip cover has got to be cheaper than a bulk order of hard shells .
I didn’t care as much on the Halloween films as much as I only had interest in the first 4 films . And I thought 1-6 were individual and 7 and on were in a box set . I saw most of the later films and felt they got just too silly with the story rationales . I won’t even bother to see the Blumhouse films - cash in stuff only with no concern for quality . (The fact they did an exorcist sequel ……. Rubbish. I’ll give you that part 3 is pretty strong but you had William Peter Blatty there as writer / director .)
The hard shell works particularly well for special films and franchises , so I wish we’d see more of them , but costs may be too much of a factor

I loved those hardbox releases. The question we must ask ourselves, can we truely consider Scream Factory a boutique label now days? They have really slipped and traded quality for even more profit than they were already pocketing.

I was wondering the same thing a few months ago with what happen to the scream factory thick slipcases their were used for halloween 1 to 8 & Hunted hills. They were so much better & more sturdy than the thin slipcovers that get wear & tear to easily. I Thought they were taking a few steps foward to give us back a quality product with the releases of Halloween 1 to 8 & hunted hills compared to how lackluster a Year and half of releases were before that but boy I was wrong. It now just feels like if you want a fraction of that old scream quality than you have to pay more to get it which sucks. They really should've give killer klowns from outer space & Chucky 1 to 7 the thick slipcase treatment along with giving killer klowns more new special features instead of non. Scream skipping out on new special features or lacking any special features in general is another thing about their quality that gone down the drain bedsides qc.

I think Scream Factory is taking production costs of the hard cases into consideration and now they want to make you pay extra for the different box art. Scream Factory is obviously trying to nickle and dime they customers now. So instead of a nice hard box, your only option is to pay extra for different slip cases.

I'm normally the type to throw out slip covers. Even if there's reversible art. I just switch the case to the art I want and call it a day.
But when I got my SF 4k of Halloween and saw and felt that nice and sturdy slip box? I fell in love. New favorite type of packaging for movies. I was so glad I managed to get the rest and they all look and feel just as good.
The only Arrow release I have with a slip is the Conan Chronicles on blu ray. It's a good quality box. But I wish they used art based on the first movie's poster. I managed to pre-order Arrow's Friday The 13th '09 4K. That new art on the box with the original poster art on the case is gonna look sick. (I had to pre-order from Amazon. No one else would ship it to Canada. So fingers crossed it works out).
