In Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, the song "Happy Endings" is sung by another character in the beginning of the film. Shirley also recorded her version of the song, but it was either edited out of the final print or never shot. This is Shirley's version accompanied with stills and movie posters from her 1938 film.
Song Lyrics:
What do we all read a story book for
What do we look for, when it is through?
What does every Cinderella sigh for
What does she try for, till dreams come true?
Happy ending, with all our troubles behind
Happy ending, that's what we're trying to find!
Why didn't Cinderella waver? What made her braver?
She knew the Prince would come and save her!
Happy ending, the best of wonderful times
Always ending, just like in nursery rhymes!
May each thing you pray for bring you
Joy and laughter, ever after
Happy ending to you all!
Happy ending, with all our troubles behind
Happy ending, that's what we're trying to find!
Why didn't Cinderella waver? What made her braver?
She knew the Prince would come and save her!
Happy ending, the best of wonderful times
Always ending, just like in nursery rhymes!
May each thing you pray for bring you
Joy and laughter, ever after
Happy ending to you all! - Zábava
I love it
I love this song.
quando uma pessoa e boa nunca morre
I loved this song in the movie but I never knew Shirley had recorded it! I love this version so much better. She's so great! thanks so much!
The woman at 1:00 is Gloria Stuart who played Shirley's cousin Gwen in the film. Modern audiences would know her better as the elder Rose in the movie Titanic.
It's amazing that this has surfaced. Hearing it for the first time, I might understand why it was not used. The major problem was that Shirley's voice was getting slight at this point, and her singing range was becoming limited. You can tell because she had trouble hitting certain high notes, even to the extent that the middle section was actually transfigured for her range.
This section goes higher as sung by Phyllis Brooks and is the oral climax of the song.
Thais id beautifull
This is such a gem
I Love This Song!!!! Thank You!!
Lovely! Thank you!
Never heard this song that Shirley
Temple sang Happy Endings.
this version is great, but i really like phyllis brooks' version that she sings at the beginning of rebecca of sunnybrook farm.
There is a link to download this song on my blog. Look in the video description for the address.
It was left out while beta, although it's nice that her song resurfaced as well.
Very interesting. I've always been nuts about this song in the movie, as done in a rather condensed version by the fabulous Phyllis Brooks. I even tried researching it but could never find anything. The lyrics are wonderful. Did anybody else record it, I wonder? Thanks VERY much for posting this rarity.
Ozzie Nelson recorded a studio version with his orchestra, I believe.
Nice... MP3 Download please!
I agree. Shirley was a fantastic dancer and actor, and a pretty good singer too. I feel like as she aged though, her voice started to get less and less impressive. I know in one of her films, she sang with the Brian sisters, who were told to "sing like Shirley" in order to not outshine her. Shirley was fantastic, no doubt, but I feel like there were more vocally talented children than her.
any way you could find the phyllis brooks version? iTunes doesn't hve it, and neither does CZcams,
