    Harder & Steenbeck will release a limited edition Squidmar airbrush some time during this november. It's so freakin' cool and i'm so proud they want me to be part of their artists - and even cooler that they wanted to make one with my specs and design. There will be a epic giveaway leading up to it if you sign up to the newsletter (so we can inform you when it goes live):

      if you want the quality you expect from it, it would cost 20grand and not only 2grand.
      They do not produce millions of it, so every part has to pay a lot of the tooling cost at all.
      The warping is shit for sure. Seems like the producer does not let em cool out long enough or the parts itself are not well designed to easily warp.
      On the other hand, half of the cutting squidmar did, could be avoidable by put the parts together first, see whats not fitting, warp it back and then glue it. The way he did it, with every adjustment he made it harder for the next part to fit. You can see in the clip, that with every minute the differences get bigger and thats not essentially a problem of the material, but also how its been handled.

    • @joek600

      @@Kermitt_Frog I would cost 20K if it was plastic. There is not a huge tooling cost for resin. The molds last for 30-40 reproductions if they are not handdled by apes pulling and tearing them apart, so every 30+ Mantas (meaning 60000 euros) FW has to spend around 250 euros for silicone molds. Probably even less depending the brand of the silicone and the discount for buying bulk

But this is Games Workshop/Forgeworld we are talking about here, where there is absolutely no shame to be had. The fact that three months has passed, and given the view count it's basically impossible they missed the video, and still nobody at the company said "You know this is bad PR, we need to do something" really tells you all you need to know about GW/FW.

You just spray and wipe and the paint comes right off including any oil on top of the paint. Its not great if you dont want to strip paint under the oil or grease though. This is just a standard de greaser from any auto store. If it can strip literal oil and paint off of metal in one spray, I assume it would work? The background story: Perhaps some of the Fire Warriors on board your Manta managed to escape the crash via emergency escape pods in board.
    My idea: You or someone else can design a 3D printer file of a Mantra themed Escape Pod. Then you could give away the extra Fire Warriors and make the 3D print file for the escape pod available for download.
    This way several others could paint up a part of the model and display it on their shelf of models in the escape pod - or out of it and surviving in their own mini diarama on whatever planet or ship it managed to take the occupant to.
    It would become the "largest" 40K themed diorama with the "furthest spread out parts" in the world!
    It could even be used as another charity fundraiser.

    • @alexandrekoenig6216
      @alexandrekoenig6216 Pƙed 2 lety

      The release agent is real pain in the ass, and I ususaly use two methods to fix the problem. The first is using agrume based solvents wich can be diluted up to 10% in tepid water and let it soak about 2 days. The solvent proved to be hignly efficient against any release agent I encountered with no high toxicity. PU resin are very reselient again most of the chemicals you can throw at them. The only one product able to melt it is near impossible to buy as its toxicity is far too high for non-professionnal use and too complicated with its waste management.
      The other solution I found for big bits is quite an extremist one and proves to be HIGHLY DANGEROUS. But its efficiency being equal to its danger level... It is soaking the big bits in a slightly water diluted caustic soda bath. To cleanse it from CS residues, pieces need to be rinced with a mix of water an acetic acid (household vineager - acid neutralizing the basic CS, and makes the bitz grippy very quickly) This method was succefully used on FW Zone Mortalis tiles wich resisted all form of washing and were previously unable to get paint stuck on it, the paint simply and purely stripping away in large flakes... NOT recommended for beginners or people unfamiliar with handling hazardous chemicals, and NOT INSIDE your appartment of course, requires the use of a face shield, googles and special chemical resistant clothing and gloves... Extreme conditions demand extreme responses...

    Always thought FW should really remove the mould release coating off of pieces and sprues before sending it off as product. Its a hassle you really shouldn't have to deal with as a customer and its a lazy business practise.
    More so for one of the most expensive kits they do but hey apparently a couple of grand won't save you some additional labour

    Fun fact: the average T'au lifespan is 40 years.
    So if there's a survivor, the ship can't have been here 40 years. If we go to the shorter end of your estimate, 20 years, that would mean that a survivor would be possible, but they would be a very old T'au when you account for the fact that they had to be an adult before the ship crashed.

    Those "oily" parts aren't mould release. That's improperly mixed resin. Over time they will continue to weep like that and debond the paint layer. There's not really anything you can do to prevent this from happening so the best thing you can do is ask for replacements for Forge World's poor quality control.

    From a story perspektiv it might be a bit overburdened if you push too many factions into it

    Thanks for buying this stuff so we don't have to.
    Perfectly showcasing why I don't buy FW stuff. You spend ans INSANE amount of money for a product with no quality control and whose dimensions have probably never been updated to fit better.
    Just imagine how much faster things like this would be to assemble if FW did it's only job and the dimensions were correct, plus printing is so advanced now that they don't have an excuse anymore.

    • @danflak6363
      @danflak6363 Pƙed 2 lety

      All I’m gonna say is you don’t understand the process at all. The printing is not “advanced” it’s a dude squirting resin into a mould cavity that has been manually tapped together. As the resin cures it gets very hot & causes the pieces to bend, which is why you should expect some warping & a massive project on your hands. Also the intro is disingenuous as the piece that was shown as “warped & bent” is just flash that is cut off and thrown away. For every acceptable manta that is created a shit ton of trash is thrown away.
      It’s an old way of doing things, which I’m not a huge fan of personally. But it is far far FAR from a simple process that runs itself. It’s a fucking ball ache & requires months/year of experience to even attempt to cast one of these dickheads.
      Having said that, squid and the gang have done a great job with such a problematic FW piece.

      @@danflak6363 It just won't go in my mind that despite GW/FW spitting out crap like this, there are still people around defending their scheme.
      There's literally nothing that can excuse this final product they're shipping. Warping is not okay, broken parts are not okay, that this stuff is greasy as hell is not okay. I worked in injection molding for a long time and I can tell you - Any company, any boss, any worker with at least a little sense of shame left in his body, would never let stuff like this slip through. We had to re-do a ton of stuff because of the smallest flaws, and the shit we produced was like 20cent per part, not $2300.
      People need to stop defending this. It's like you guys trying to convince others that the nigerian prince really wants your bank account so he really can send his millions of dollars, pinky promise. You're defending scammers, making yourself con-men because you do literally everything to try help them cover up their shit.

    I said it before and I'll say it again: the fact that GW is selling it for that price with warped parts is complete bullshit and they need to replace the messed up pieces free of charge. The fact that so many parts also didn't fit properly is unacceptable because at that price point it should fit together correctly first try.
    Also, 3D printing is going to be the downfall of GW because of how much cheaper it is.

    An idea for how to use the sitting Fire Warriors - make a secret compartment with a poker table, and place them all around it. They’re not dead, they’re just hiding from the “Survivor”. They’re glad about their little vacation far away from any Etheral, who could boss them around and aren’t too keen to return. Meanwhile the “Survivor” is a staunch believer of the Greater Good and has a “stick in the mood” kind of personality.
