- This is the guitar solo to Bill Doggett's Honky Tonk, Pt. 1, released in 1956. The original guitar part was played by Billy Butler. I'm playing a '57 American Hot Rod Tele through a Blues Junior with some slapback from a Dan-Echo pedal. Sorry, I don't have the tabs, I just learned by listening practicing a lot. Thanks for watching my videos!

I'm 66 years old and had the priviledge of hearing this tune played by the Bill Doggett band. My dad used to own the Flame Show Room on Hasting Street in Detroit Michigan. It was at that time the major black club in the city. I was taking piano lessons then, and of course we all tried to learn the tune since it was #1 on black charts. I assure everyone it was played in F, without a capo. They had to accomodate the sax player and the organist (Bill Doggett, who mostly played in F). Good cover!!!
Sounding good! Really good!!!
Holy cow..the Flame Show Room..can't get much more legendary than that...
thank you ffchop. I have been wanting to play this song for 30 yrs and now I can thanks to your video. I watched you and picked it out using my ear. also, I love the key of E . thanks, again, robert.
Thanks! I appreciate it!
+robertsrecords thanks!
Listening and practicing a lot . . . what a concept. Thanks for another good one, Tom!
Wow this is an old video! Thanks!
@@tomcon21 It is, but I'm still trying to catch up with all you've done. Lots of good stuff on your channel!
Nine people who have never tried playing a guitar give this a thumbs down.
good work
@mopardan65 Cool! Thanks for watching! I did cheat a little and changed it from the original key. I was in F and I play it in E.
This is the closest on CZcams to the record! Nicely done! I'm copying from you right now! Will be playing on an old Tele myself.
@PushKoast Thanks! I haven't had time to put together tutorials but it's a good idea! I'm sorry, I didn't learn it from tabs so I don't have them-- I just listened, practiced, and watched some other guitar players playing it on YT playing it!
@MauadieVentura Thanks!
@mopardan65 Makes sense. Thanks for the info!
Did you ever do one in F instead of E?
Yes on this channel
@@tomcon21 I'll check it out!
I've heard a lot of arguments regarding the key... E or F? I believe you're playing it correctly. The original could have been capoed or just out of tune due to the analog recording speed. I'm no expert, but I don't see how playing it in F would have helped the tenor saxophone player's key at all. We'll never really know, but everyone I know who "attempts" it plays it in E. Again, nicely done!
The Irishman anyone?
Right!
great job , man .
say, where did you get your backing tracks ? i've been searching the net and i had no luck. hope you can help it out with some info, thanks dude.
hey great playing! do you think i could get a copy of these tabs. ive had a hard time figuring out the sax part. you should even start putting out tutorial videos!
@tomcon21 well thats talent then my friend haha! but great job, ive watched a few of your other videos. you got style!
Can anyone Tab this for me? It would be greatly appreciated!!!
Wonderfully preformed Sir!
wrong
Xavier marquez Which part?
3rd chorus. It supposed to be triplet up and down strumming, not single down strokes. Chords following are wrong also..theres also a triplet feel on ending line that your missing...there's about 7 CZcamss on this solo but nobody nails it..check out Danny Gatton's version on CZcams.
This video is 8 years old. I did it again a few years ago. czcams.com/video/rVjogQWk4FY/video.html
