  • Clint Grover takes an in depth look at how the new BFGoodrich T/A KM3 Mud Terrain tires handle in the snow, ice and slush. Clint tests the tires in both 2 wheel drive as well as 4 wheel drive under acceleration, hard braking and checks them for stability when turning. The tires are tested on gravel roads as well as paved roads, in both light and heavy powder, wet snow with ice underneath, in transitions between dry and snowy roads, and finally in slush. Clint gives an in depth overview of the tires during this review as well as a ranking for power, ice, slush and an overall rating. Finally Clint does what any good gearhead does with plenty of room and slippery conditions, he flogs the super duty repeatedly throwing rooster tails, spinning cookies and making that v10 engine sing at the top of its lungs!

    I use these tires in Russia all year round, they behave perfectly, but I have ko, not ko2 or 3, size 35x12.5r16.5, I drive a Dodge W250

    Love it.
    Just got the km3s on my jeep grand cherokee trailhawk 5 7ltr. Hemi and I love the. There is a mpg loss, that sucks really bad, but totally happy with the handling, and traction, I get out of them....

      Thank you. It's got factory manifolds to dual 3" pipes all the way back with chambered mufflers (similar to flowmaster 40 series). No x or h pipe, and both sides were bent to make them equal lengths by the tips.

    Had these in the snow on a 2wd pickup with weight in the bed and could drive through about 4 to 5 inches of snow pretty easily and on sheets of ice up moutain roads just have to drive slow.

      This is the comment I was looking for. I have a 2wd GMC dually, and these are the only 10 ply radials I could find in 7.50r16. Everything else is either 14 ply, or bias ply.

  • @meateaterwhitetail7291

    If you have the k02s in front and km3s in rear in 2wd. It wont slide left and right as much because the k02s are lighter than the km3. Most of the slipping is mainly the lsd locking on.

      @@JensenAzotea if you're trying 1 foot of snow or deeper. I'd go 30psi or lower just to get the tires to grip better in snow. I now have 265/70/16 bfg km3 in front and 255/70/16 bfg k02s in rear on my 1st gen fwd highlander.

      @@braedenlindsey7266 I used to run the k02s. But yeah the ko2s are just ok on mud and good in snow. I'm now running 265/70/16 bfg KM3s on my 1st gen fwd highlander. It performs similar to the ko2s in the snow. But the k02s does perform a little better on ice than the KM3s. I'm more confident the km3s can go in deeper snow than the k02s along with hitting mud. As long as I'll lower the air. I'll stick fine in 2wd open diff...

    If you ever get your hands on real winter tires (like Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 or 10) you'd be blown away with amazement how they perform in snow, compared to MT's. The difference is just so damn massive that road like at the start of this video is 0 problems for stuff like FWD cars, be it hills or turns. We get a lot of snow here in Finland during the winter and my 4x4 has proper winter tires for winter (required to use those by law) but if I for some reason leave my muddies on, it performs worse in snow than my other car with winter tires. That being Golf GTI mk5, so not really packed up with traction that the 4x4 with 4low and lockers has 😅 Then again, when I switch to winter tires on my Jeep, I can just crawl through knee deep snow with 0 wheel spin. It's the small sipes (or grooves or whatcha call them in english) that help with snow, since snow on snow creates friction, so trapping that on the tire helps, where MT's just throw it away, which means rubber on snow and that's slicky.

    • @NeverDoneUSA
      @NeverDoneUSA  Před 2 lety +2

      I agree. I've had real snow tires on other vehicles before and they're excellent! I keep the mud tires on this one because I didn't want to buy 2 sets of 37" tires and these haven't let me down yet although they are pretty sketchy on ice.

    • @finnishfatman
      @finnishfatman Před 2 lety +1

      @@NeverDoneUSA I can understand that. 37inch winter tires can be hella expensive and if you don't really need them 😁 And I gotta admit that last winter I was so lazy with my 4x4, that I just left those Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs it currently has on it, since we had a lot of snow and they worked decently enough. For icy roads we just took my Golf with studded winter tires.

    No offense, but back country is different than city driving. I have 37' mudders on mine, and feel I need to put her in FWD most of the time (other vehicles around me).. Just wish I had Auto 4wd like my old 1500 1998 GMC, which was a dream to drive in winter. I heard some of the newer diesels have them though..

      It depends on what you're going to do with them. They have been a great tire thus far and they are incredibly capable but if you're just mall crawling or playing in the light stuff you could definitely do it cheaper. When these wear out I will be going back to the Toyo Open Country MT. They aren't quite as good in the snow as these km3's have been but they look a lot better on my truck.
