Oh my gosh… everyone says with little ones you need “self care” but also “enjoy the moment” and “you can’t pour from an empty cup”. But I’ve never heard anyone point out that you CAN’T enjoy the moment if you haven’t taken care of yourself already. It solves the guilt of “maybe if I take some time for myself I’ll miss an important magical moment I was supposed to be present for.” SO genius and well-put. Thank you! ❤️

I'm so glad to hear you understood what I was getting at! Sort of like with Disney planning we used to say "tired guests can't make happy memories." So truly you CAN'T enjoy the moments if you're wiped out!

Homeschooling - good insights! Also, if one is considering homeschooling, please understand that it is not only an educational choice, it is a life style choice!!! They are with you almost.all.of.the.time. It is important to take "outside" classes (co-op, hybrid, music lessons, martial arts, etc) so that the kids are responsible to other adults for some school work. But, I wouldn’t have traded our homeschooling years for anything. ❤

DCL for the Parent of the three year old. Unless you're going on an older Royal Carribean ship in a inside cabin you will be paying the same price as a DCL trip. You are getting drinks, different dining experiences and world class entertainment on Disney. The drink packages and specialty dining adds up on Royal

Yes, at 59, I can relate. The skin on my arms is the same. One thing I think about the checking and recheck is because you need to be mindful when you check. We're done these things over and over for so many decades that we do them without thinking, so then we later think, did I do that? Or did I remember doing it last week or last month etc.

We’ve sailed both Disney (7 cruises) and Royal Caribbean (over 25 cruises). If you sail on an Oasis class ship, there will be lots for a 3 year old to do. We loved Disney, but we can sail 4 Royal Caribbean cruises for the price of 1 Disney, if you plan well. But definitely stick with and Oasis class ship.

We went on DCL Wonder to Alaska, the last cruise of the season (before Covid). Yes, it was cooler, however, it was fabulous. There were whales, bears and so much more. Plus, there were mostly adults on board as children were in school.

I had 2 daughters 11 months apart and I thought it was hard when they were babies, but the teen years were much more emotionally exhausting!!That being said I wouldn’t trade it for the world! Being a mom is my most treasured blessing! I homeschooled starting in 5th grade. I’m from newtown, CT and it was just really hard to send them back to school after they lost friends etc. that being said like you I needed the support the school offered in those formative years of reading for my youngest. They did such a great job that she’s my little bookworm now.
Also knowing you had trauma from your past and yet you blossomed into this wonderful and positive person you are now makes me love you even more! 🫶🏻

I love Royal. The value for the money is very good. It also depends on the ship as to what type of activities the have have for small children like splash pad and small slides. I love the ice shows too, which can be found on the Voyager, Freedom and Oasis DC lass ships.

    • @JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge

Royal Carribean has multiple class ships and multiple ships within each class. I think all Disney ships, regardless of the size, cater to families and small children especially. Royal Carribean is not the same case. The bigger class ships cater to everyone but I feel the smaller class ships are more adults or young adult friendly.

I just adore your down to earth no nonsense logical content! My girls are only 9 and 10 and I seriously miss those toddler years. I do remember them being hard but I miss how sweet and snuggly they were and oh so funny. Toddlers are hilarious. This is when we started doing Disney and I have the very best memories of them interacting with characters as toddlers.

When I traveled a lot in my job…it was glorious! Everything stayed organized and at the ready ALWAYS!! Now, in retirement, after C-19 and with just less funding to throw at unique vacations…packing has turn to “ugh”! I am very much like you and so many of your fans - an anxious traveler who needs the things I need to make peace with the journey. I can keep one small Urgent Needs bag fully stocked - but the clothes, shoes, electronics, specific destination needs are part of my everyday routine and just can’t be left tucked away, waiting for the next adventure. At least my Master List is laminated and can stay in the luggage - and I generally will buy SOME new things to take on vacation because I keep the receipts handy for reimbursement when (not IF) my luggage goes to Spain and I’m headed to Vegas. 💕

My son was eating lunch next to me while this video was on the TV. The part about relationship advice for pilot wives was interesting to him. He's only 19, and doesn't have a relationship yet, but he listened to what you had to say so that whoever he has in his life later, he can communicate this advice to them. He's in no hurry to find a girlfriend. All his extra time is spent studying ground school and getting his tests done for the next step in his pilot journey. I'm FINE with that!! 😄 But I'm glad he paid attention to what you had to say. Thank you!!!

We did our Alaskan cruise with a land tour. It was wonderful but mostly because of the land tour. We started in Fairbanks, Denali, Talkeetna, Anchorage and then Seward to board the ship. The sad part is that all the cruise ships come in at the same time so the ports are packed. In Skagaway, we were told there were 30k people in that day. It's so crowded that people just walk on the street. The gentleman driving us to the sled dog camp said, "welcome to the world's largest sidewalk!". My husband hated the cruise part because of all the people but as you said there's just no other way to see somethings!

I live in Southern California and do not like cold weather. However, I am obsessed with Alaska and its beauty. I am doing two Alaska cruises this year after sailing on one in 2016. One 7-nt and a 9-nt - Two new ports and two new glaciers. Next year, I will branch out and likely do Princess to Glacier Bay since Disney doesn't do it. Luckily, I have been able to take advantage of military discounts, and I almost always sail in the cheapest inside cabin so I can travel more often.
Alaska's beauty is calming and meditative.

I've cruised in a lot of different places (Europe, Alaska, Caribbean, Bahamas) and a lot of different cruise lines (DCL, Holland America, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity) and if I'm sailing in the Caribbean and Bahamas - choosing a cruise line matters more than itinerary. For trips that are more port heavy (Europe/Alaska), looking at what the ports are matters more than the ship. When my kids were littler, we opted for DCL because the cruise was in lieu of a park trip and then my littles got to meet characters and just have general Disney magic. They are teens now and while we do love Disney and miss the magic on other lines, they are more excited by things like rock climbing walls on ships and amazing excursions we can afford for the lower price point. And while we do miss DCL when we are not on it, each line has things we miss when we are on DCL.

i can speak with regards to RCCL vs DCL. I like both, but disney has a lot of characters, the RCCL had dreamworks characters not sure that partnership still exists. The DCL has a lot of things that are fun and we typically like the smaller ships (so not the oasis class ships -- I'm diamond on RCCL.. so i've been on a "few" RCCL ships). RCCL does have a lot of activities but we found that we were happy with the DCL offerings. I did love bumper cars, iFly, and the north star on the RCCL ships but they are often so crowded that while fun it can get old fast. DCL has all the character meet and greets, box office movies and so IMHO it depends on what you like. I love to find a quiet corner and read so either line allow me to do this. On the oasis class ships, i love the internal balcony rooms so i can sit on the balcony and read ;P yes im boring.

  • @allielouderback6893
    @allielouderback6893 Před rokem

Chiming in on RC vs DCL. At age 3, I’d save your money and do a larger ship with RC. In a few years, I’d splurge on DCL if you can. I wouldn’t go in reverse 😂. Way more magical for kids on DCL but I don’t know that I’d consider the price difference worth it at 3. If you’re gonna be one and done on cruises and can swing DCL, do it.

I freaking love Royal Caribbean. I want, but have never cruised on Disney....YET! With that said here is my 2 cents. If we are talking a 3 year old.....they still are at an age that they will not remember as much as lets say age 5 and older. So right now with a 3 year old, save your money and take RCCL and in a few years (a more memorable age) splurge for Disney. Sure if you have done Disney first, absolutely no other cruise line with regards to kids, is ever going to compare. But my husband and I cruise roughly 3 times a year and we almost always go RCCL, some Norweigan but Disney is definately on our list.

Hi Jenn. I’m really enjoying your channel and appreciate how open and honest you are. I’m a relatively new subscriber who happened upon you while looking for a new carry on bag. On your recommendation I bought the Away bag and love it. I always look forward to your videos!

I think people who start out cruising on Disney will most always prefer Disney. It's a smaller cruise line, so people can get to know cruise staff over time. Personally, I think Disney cruises are completely overrated and way overpriced.

Lol - clearly not introverts. I love the crew, appreciate their hard work, tip extra on top of prepaid gratuities. I am not a bad person, I just want anonymity. I do not want to chat or really get to know the crew on vacation, I have social anxiety, I want to sit on my balcony or the beach with my book - when service is too personalized it make me uncomfortable. I cash tip even when I don’t need to, and generally tip $2 in cash for every drink I get, but I just don’t like talking to people that much, I don’t need to bond with my server or have them remember my drink order. As such, I prefer larger ships where it is easy to get lost among the masses. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I did have one woman reach out and offer to fly here (if I paid for it) but YES the goal is to find someone local. But you would be AMAZING and wouldn't even put up with Lenny's crap (which is an astounding feat;).

So I can when I'm not traveling for work. And even though it's practically free we have to fly space available so during the busy summer travel season it can be challenging to get a seat.
