You are absolutely right, though. A cover song - or an adaptation from some musical - is cool, but what use is it if the artist doesn't give it a personal flavor? If there's nothing different then it's just recrerating the original. Which is nice I guess, but nothing new. Ever heard "Hurt" by Johnny Cash? It's actually a song by Nine Inch Nails. But he put such a personal spin on it that even Trent Reznor of NIN who wrote the song said it's a Johnny Cash song now. That's the way to make a cover song!
Sooner or later it will come, they worked together before, it would be fun if they did this song with Floor singing the phantom and Tommy doing Christine just to chock everyone!

Tommy is in a league of his own, he makes new covers - or rather renditions - of songs every week and there hasn't been a single one that's not fantastic imo. Oh and about that high note, that's not even near his capacity. If you really want to find out about his range you ought to check out his version of "You raise me up". Not only is that a rather high song to begin with, he also does it one octave higher.

How much I love Tommy's voice, Joakim is the one and only lead singer for Sabaton. His gritty vocals fits perfectly with the music and their concept, military history. Not everyone likes that kind of voice and prefer the high pitched ones. That's fine with me. Sabaton is still my favourite band 🤘
