  • I got another breezy day to fish the creeks and had a blast with the Speckled Trout, Redfish and Leapin' Ladyfish for a couple of hours!! Water temp was 71.4....A couple of degrees cooler but the temperature change didn't seem to change the bite in the deeper creeks using the Mirrodine 808 BG Twitch Bait!!

      @@leechaney3703 I know all about getting stuck....In the past I was so intent on getting up there I'd get out and push and in some instances drag the boat over lime rock just to get into a creek knowing that the tide would make my exit a lot easier.....LOL!!😎🤣

    • @WesLovelace
      @WesLovelace  Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks "J"!! It's great to be back on the water and hopefully the weather will continue to improve.....The weather has been a problem both on the water and in the swamp!! Rarely do I come in contact with anyone because I normally stay out of the Refuge during weekends and this was on a Saturday. In over 30 years I haven't encountered any boat at that location and that pontoon was close to dragging bottom.....His big motor was tilted and he was under power with the troller!! He was exploring and the route I was taking there is little to no margin for error and after 19 years with this 25 Yamaha the skeg is still attached and this pass is all lime rock and big chunks of coral and once committed I can't drop down without damage to the lower unit and it's possible he didn't expect anyone up there but I had the room and was already committed when I sped up to get through that pass.....I tell folks all the time the Refuge is not a place for the wrong type of boat or running around without the local knowledge to do so safely!!

    • @WesLovelace
      @WesLovelace  Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks Phillip!! Al of the critters help keep a smile on this kids face everywhere I go in Florida!! Several specifics on the water....All of these rivers over here are spring fed with a year round temp of 72.2 degreez.....In the last week the Gulf is about 66 degreez and the inside and near Gulf waters have been 71.4 and 73.4 respectively.....These elevated temps help the bite but the fish are really spread out and are a challenge to find....Enjoy your week!!

    • @WesLovelace
      @WesLovelace  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Thanks Mike!! The ladies can be chunked for dropping on Grouper and can be trolled when I'm in the Keys for Sails, Kings, Dolphin, and Wahoo. For trolling I'm rigging with a single 8/0 hook with about 20 inches of no.7 Monel wire single strand with usually a hot pink skirt attached to either a Penn Int or Shimano lever drags running 50 lb. Ande mono tourney green and when I don't have my own bait I use large ballyhooz rigged the same way. All the species provide me with a lot of action and keep this kid entertained all the time.....Moving to FLA was the best thing I could have done to enjoy my favorite past time.....Enjoy your week!!

    • @WesLovelace
      @WesLovelace  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Thanks Timothy!! If you want Ladies the outside island hard bottom skinny water is loaded!! Now I've tried the outside island edges and I'm just not seeing anything!! Years ago if you found Ladies the Specks were mixed in......Now there's a good price on Ladies and they have basically disappeared!! My starting point is about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile off the Gulf.....Water temps are 5/6 degrees warmer and I'm flippin' in water 10 to 15 feet in depth right up to one foot.....When it's sunny the skinny water seems to be better!! If you have a Yak the farther you can get the better.....I have difficulty when trying to navigate the shallow creeks with all the Rock Grass on the surface.....Hope this helps!!
