Funnily enough one of my favourite characters in the game isn't even given a name. During the childhood part of the story there's a little girl in Barona that if you speak to tells you her dream is to open a kind of shop the city has never seen before. If you talk to her older sister next to her she tells you she's never seen her sister so determined over anything. When you get to the adult part you find her in the same location running the Ice Pop stand. There's something about watching her bounce happily up and down after making her dream come true, something that fits with the title theme, that puts a smile on my face every time I see her.
I really love this game :)

@@PelvicGaming Did you ever play any of the Shining Force series? I still have my copies of Shining Force 1 and 2 I brought for my MegaDrive when I was a kid. Part 2 is another one where you start as kids and become adults later and has one of my all time favourite quotes in a video game. When they're kids their old teacher, Sir Astral, fights of an evil spirit and collapses from exhaustion. When the Minister is talking to the kids after this he says "Don't worry about Sir Astral. He's old so he'll die soon anyway." Great thing to tell the kids, eh? :)

This is my favorite jrpg of all time. I've have at lest 600 hours in this game across 4 playthroughs. I got every title. Reach Lvl 250 with every character. Max out all arts. Max out the Eather bottle. Beat every boss and completely fiish the last dungeon and did a three book 100% playthrough. And did all of this on unknown. I fucking love this game

    TALES OF GRACES F!!!!
Honestly, the battle system took a lil to get used to, but it's honestly my favorite, which is most certainly helped by how amazing each of the characters play.
The skits are also the best in this game from all the Tales series.

I just adore this game so much, the characters are just a joy to be around, and the combat is just oh so magnificent.
Besides, how can you not love playing as a good boi in a long coat who beats people with the SHEATH of his sword.

Ending a review with the absolutely bombastic energy and positive feeling makes me fully committed to playing Tales of Graces F. The fandom's lukewarm discussion of the game and an admittedly awful playthrough I saw on CZcams a decade ago have left such a bad taste in my mouth regarding the game.
Your praise and glowing look at the game, though, convinced me: I absolutely need to buy this game. I don't have a PS3 ;n; but you bet I'm buying this game first things first when I do get one >:U

I never did the future arc, but it's absolutely my favorite Tales of game ever. Symphonia just winds up feeling juvenile compared to when I first played it on Gamecube as a kid. I never liked Vesperia at all. And I don't care for most of the rest of the series (Zestiria got me with it's King Arthur references, though). But yeah. I'll defend Graces f any day.

Been exploring the Tales of series in reviews.... it's wild to see just how wildly different opinions on any individual game are.
    Tales of Graces F
one person: It's combat has a ton of problems and feels not as satisfying as other games, and the plot makes no sense.
Another person: It's combat system is near perfect and is the most enjoyable in the entire series, with a fantastic plot!
The same thing has happened to virtually every game I've come across so far. Heh. Good to see someone enjoy a game, though.

Well.. that and the intro of the second arc. The "friendship is magic" crap I feel actually works mainly because you get to see them in different time periods.

I’ve been wondering what Tales game to start playing as my first. Thanks for this review. I was thinking this or Abyss, or Vesperia, or Symphonia. It will be one of those 4 as my first I’m sure.
For games that I know have flaws but will strongly defend them to my death will be Final Fantasy VII (the game that got me into RPGs), Skies of Arcadia (one of the best stories I’ve played), Baten Kaitos (Great story and such an amazing soundtrack that I loved so much I imported it from Play Asia), and Final Fantasy X (the only video game that has managed to make me have tiers in my eyes at one point)
So Pelvic. What video game has the best ever story that you have ever played?

My favorite Tales game. I remember I bought this one on release when FFXIII didn't clicked on me and am searching for a good JRPG on PS3(PS3 has a shortage of JRPG's back then). This game has a unique charm. I really love the character banters and skits in this which kept me entertained while on the journey. Title system is one that I would like them to implement on future titles. The battle system don't bore me and seen myself having fun and improve on it as the story goes on. I've seen comments like this game is cringey cause it uses the predictable friendship trope theme or it's so lighthearted but so what. I'd say it is executed well and what matters is at the end of it I enjoyed this game for what it is and would like to do a replay of it some time.

  • @Artimes.
    @Artimes. Před 4 lety +1

Yep Dragon Quest XI. People complain bout the music and i guess some isntances of combat being turn based because of it not fitting today's modern technology of video game mechanics. That is about as perfect to a jrpg as you can possibly get, culturally diverse and explorable world, amazing cast of characters, voice acting is top notch, an excellent story and enough variety in content that you can easily make 2 or 3 games out of 1. Steeped in rich jrpg roots and never once derails from that formula which is something i like. Its also the only game that manages to do one thing, make you think you finished the game with a 60-70 hrs clocked playthrough with credits roll and everything, only to find out that you've only completed Part 1 of the story and your really only half way through the experience. Yes it took me around 120+ hrs to just finish and complete that game. About 150+ hrs to do everything. If i had to choose one game that came close to the perfection of DQ Xi, it would be Xenoblade, but the repetitive questing system did kind of turn me off for a while. So i give the edge to DQ Xi with its far more explicit variety of content and more story based quests.

I really do hope PS5 is backwards compatible with Ps3 games because you have convinced me over the years that Graces F is something i need in my life but i don't want to pull out and dust off my Ps3 to play it. But if Ps5 can't do it i'll have no choice cuz i will be playing this eventually

Lol I did every-damn-thing this game had to offer. All optional bosses and dungeons. All skits. All characters to level 200. All Titles unlocked for all characters (including Richard). All Titles maxed out. All but one Soul Orb. All key items. All sidequests. All weapons. All accessories. All gems (barring P, Q, R, and S). All enemies. It was some of the best almost four hundred hours of my life (Soul Orb grinding sucked so bad). And I got each book of stamps to rank 10.

What I've realized is whichever game you played first in a franchise is usually your favorite. Tales of Legendia is my absolute favorite tales game (my first in the series) but everyone hates it 😂😭

While i am sad to say that tales of graces does not sound like my kinda thing, i gotta just say thank you for still presenting it like this. Reviews like this have been a lot more helpful to seeing what a game, particularly rpgs, really are about, and why we should give them a shot maybe.
A game i would recommend though would probably be Devlish/Bad Omen for the sega genesis. This game is structured like arakinod, has a story that serves mostly as a backdrop, pretty standard graphics for a genesisgame, and is difficult to play due to its mechanics and age. However, this game was the one to make me realize that i would play a terrible game just to hear its soundtrack in game if i enjoyed it that much. It feels like it adds so much to its individual parts that while i have a hard time playing it, i often think about what i liked from it when i put it down.

Great review, Graces F (along with Vesperia) are one of my favorite looking Tales of games I've seen so far.
I will defend Pokemon Sword/Shield until the day I die.
(I prefer Splatoon 2's Hero Mode over Octo Expansion. I use to like it, but over time I stopped enjoying OE; didn't help that almost every Splatoon fan was praising the DLC as if it was the best thing since sliced bread.)

I feel like in general playing games the second time provides a better experience. Familiarity with a story definitely provides more opportunities for enjoyment when you're not having to constantly encode new information and you can kind of just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Games I will defend despite its flaws hmm? "Eternal Sonata" which I think you would love.
Also "No more heroes" and "Zelda Twilight Princess"

Honestly, I've never been really interested into Tales of games, but little by little your reviews are starting to change this XD
And about the ending you mentioned...Disgaea?! I'd *really* love to hear your opinions about the series as it is one of my favorite series ever
The game that I'd always recommend (at least for fans of the genre) is...Disgaea 1 lol I know it is quite a problematic game but I just love the story and characters so much
    Anyways, awesome review as always!

The games that are extremely flawed but I absolutely love are Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and the Kiseki series games (Trails games in the west). They're too flawed for me to recommend to everyone but if you love party-based RPGs that have immersive worlds and interesting characters to the point where flaws that are normally deal-breakers don't ruin the games for you then I'll recommend these games. But I recognize that no matter how much I enjoy them, they aren't for everyone.

I've never played this game, and now I wanna try it out.
Also, the game I tell people to try out despite its flaws is... Chrono Cross... I love it, yes it has a ton of flaws but that's in my top 5 of all time.

wasn't expecting to see a review of a game where someone shares every single opinion as me. Literally everything you said throughout this whole video is how I felt about this game as well. Boring overdone tropes but still lovable characters, best combat system in Tales by far, mediocre overworld and music. Its been like 5-6 years since i played this game but i may boot up my dusty ass ps3 again for some nostalgia.

I also think "tales of graces" is a coming of age story. For Asbel more than anyone. To being responsible for Sophie, to being responsible for Lhant, to being responsible to the world and to himself.
Asbel and Hubert reuniting after the time skip really just blatantly pointed it out.
