    🤘I like siberian elm, lots of bark, but split great. "Regular" elm is a whole different story!

    Siberian Elm? Oh, so now you are importing your wood? Fancy! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 looks like it splits pretty nice. I’m thinking of using a stroke limiter for the return stroke when I’m splitting….

      Very fancy here in the 608!😂😂 Good idea with the limiter Jason. Anything would help with my slow splitter! Thanks for watching man👍👍

    Back in the 1980's we split lots of red elm and we did it by hand, are wedges looked like mushrooms. Believe it or not it sucked! Red elm sure did burn hot and long. Thanks Jeremiah and have a Merry Christmas to you and your family, and also to your subscribers.

    Mother nature loves to throw that white stuff around this time of year. Your elm split nice compared to Mike's on his video. Have a great week Jeremiah.

    We put all the elm aside all year until winter freezing weather and then it splits like butter, I don’t even bother with it until then.

    I don't know if I've ever tried to split Elm. It's not common around our property. That's quite the burn pile you've got going.

    • @outdoorsinthe608
      @outdoorsinthe608  Před rokem

      Well if you ever get into some elm this is the stuff you want! Day 3 of burning the pile rain set in a snuffed it out. Most of it burned. Thanks Chad👍

    The weather the last few day really made a mess of things. At least with the dropping temps, the ground and snow firmed-up. Less damage.

    Not sure what type of Elm trees we have on our farm. But lots of big mature elms dying or dead in our area in southern Ontario Canada . Anyways i leave em standing dead for a couple years then cut them down buck them up and split all in the same day sometimes. I can split this wood by hand with an axe up to 20 inch rounds no prob. When its green or when its cut and left to dry its impossible to split by hand normally but this way works great for me . Its generally already only 21- 24% moisture content when left standing dead for a year or 2.. It will burn as is but of course i dry it to 15 to 18% before burning or selling.

      It’s most likely American elm (Ulmus americana). Those trees are being killed off by dutch elm disease, and in another generation they will probably be gone. It’s a real pain to split, but it makes nice firewood.

    In the early days of my firewood business about 9-10 years ago I ran into some elm with white bark and my 22 ton Huskee really couldn’t handle it, it took forever to split as I had to run the ram all the way down on every block. Now whenever I encounter that stuff I either leave it or cut it into boiler wood. Siberian Elm is easy to split, not the best for making heat but I’ll use it for summer camp firewood or mix a little bit of it with my winter wood

    The Elm we used run into when I was in high school was quite challenging to split. We would leave it until we got a really cold day (-20 F) and it froze hard, then it was (barely) splitable by hand. Your Elm seems a little more accommodating
