    Instead of using cardboard between the forming and the house, why wouldn’t you use some very thin backer board with some housewrap against that area, where the steps will meet the house instead?

    Why the gap on inside edge, is there a purpose for that code?

      To prevent moisture transferring from concrete stairs to any wood or materials moisture could damage. You can use other moisture barriers like metal or water proof materials, if you don't like the gap.

      @@gregvancom you explained that in the video, I meant the 6in square gap sometimes required by code but not always.

      @@MAD-DUKE Its to make the depth of the step larger, the one that is not in the newer code books is more dangerous, because or the smaller step. Think about where most people will be stepping and that will be more inside than on the outer section where the stairs are wider.
