Yusuke did smoke in the manga but they cut it from the anime
You might remember the fight where Yusuke won when fighting in the dark because of a cigarette that Genkai threw, but in the manga Yusuke is the one who lit up that cigarette before the fight so he could use it later

I know people will have mixed feeling about such crazy pacing but thats the best they could do to fit in such a big piece of story in 5 episodes, however i actually really enjoyed this, the choreography, the CGI was actually cool and looks quite reallistic
