There are many ways to get an RN degree in US without incurring 75K or more in debt. Community colleges and public universities are way less expensive than private universities. She did an excellent job in paying off 75K in 2 years though through hard work and focus. Employers do not care about the name of school and what your GPA in US, all they care about is your competence, skills, knowledge and abilities to get the job done.
👆💯
Facts
Most hospitals in California is not going to hire you nurses with associates degrees to work in specialty floors or even med surg. The ones that do tend not to pay well. At my hospital nurses with associates work nursing home or mental health or at a clinic. There plenty of routes to obtain the goal we have to just follow the path we believe is best for us
@@watching789 They can come to NYC. As long as person is licensed there getting hired! You can get your BSN at a 4 year school in 1 year at a public school following associate. Point is 75k is too much
This girl is amazing! And I am 29F looking into private school because CC and Public colleges here in california are highly competitive! They can’t accommodate the amount of applications I’ve been a CNA FOR 4 and my only option is private school or over outside of my state, which would be expensive anyway
Sheilla messaged me during the pandemic to get food to my unit. She is awesome! I worked in a hospital in queens. Never forget that. Thank you Sheilla!
Wow, what a small world!
Goals! I’m accruing 75-80K in debt as a ABSN student in NYC. I’m hoping to pay it off in 2 years after I graduate as I don’t have/foresee any huge expenses. This just helped prove it is possible. Thank you Shiella … Queens in the house 👊🏽
You got this!
Yet another great interview! She really has a good heart for getting all those nurses fed during the pandemic! Hope she joins the Discord for sure
Taking my NCLEX in the next 3 months and ran into your channel! It’s been so informative, I truly appreciate your effort and info! I binge watched from the beginning and plan on watching many more!
I also come from a nursing family (grandma was a pediatric nurse and my mom is a mental health nurse) here in California.
I graduated from the Philippines in 2018 and have procrastinated for years on getting my license and this is the inspiration I need!
Keep up the great work, your channel is awesome!
It is inspiring and motivating to hear smart nurses with successful stories. I admire and adore your discipline and focus to achieve successful career in nursing
This interview was great!! You're definitely always dropping gems 💎
Thank you 🙏🏼
so transparent with the income---this can help people evaluate their situation
That's the goal. Thank you 🙏🏼
Not a nurse, studying to be an occupational therapist (interested in being a travel OT) but your vids are so so insightful. Thank you for all the information your giving us!!
Wow, thanks for watching our videos even though they're not related to the profession you're studying for.
I’ve been binging your channel since I started school. It’s very informative and thank for all that you do. I will graduate May 2023 with my ADN and definitely want to get into travel nursing. I’ve been an LVN for 19 yrs and have been fortunate to work in the ER with hopes of returning after I graduate. PICU is also peaking on interest.
Wow, you've come a long way! Congrats on getting your ADN!
Y'all are killing in! Way to go with this channel!
Thanks Katherine!
Love this, currently a nursing student but this info is so useful. Thanks for pushing financial literacy in nursing!
Thanks so much for the lovely comment and thanks for watching!
Sooo inspiring ❤️🙌🏾
This video is awesome! I am also a Filipina nurse that moved here in 2016. Finished my MSN in August of this year. I love your video contents.
Aww thank you!
I love this! Love the growth mindset. As a new-grad in NYC, this is so inspirational... and man, I'm definitely familiar with those nurse:patient ratios 🤣
I agree. I don't miss working in NYC at all. But we do miss living there every single day 😕.
Thank you again for a very inspiring conversation.
Of course. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment!
Inspiring conversation👍🏾
New nurse here starting in a NICU in NYC. I'm enjoying learning so much from this channel.
Congrats on your new job!
Wow! How fast were you able to land that job after graduating?
I’m not a nurse but this nursing info is interesting and I’m always watching this kind of content.
Thanks for always inspiring us..
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Awesome Interview! So great to know if there’s a will, there’s a way to pay off these loans quick😅 and dang Jason!!! you seriously were hustling as a kid selling one thing or another haha, finding all these new ways to rise, that constant drive! Just one of the reasons that prove why your channel is going wayyy 🚀🔥 I love to see it! 🙏🙏
I gotta keep hustling until I no longer have to rely on a W2 income. I hate having to trade my time for money. I've always hated the concept of being someone's employee. It honestly feels like a prison... Following a strict work schedule that would leave me unemployed if I didn't follow it to a T.
The feeling I get when I want to spend time with my family, but know that the only way I can do that is if my employer grants me the permission to do so, is one of the most demoralizing feelings I have experienced.
This is what drives me to do what I'm doing with this youtube channel. I feel like I can help people get themselves out of poverty and ultimately place themselves in a position where they are financially independent and being an employee is only an option and not a requirement. And I think this message is resonating with a lot of people.
So, thanks for watching the video, always commenting, and for noticing the hard work it's taken to get here.
I’m not a nurse. I’m a behavior analyst/special ed teacher. I love your channel. Learn so much!!! ❤❤❤
Wow, I'm so glad you found our channel then! Thanks for watching!
I cried remembering those COVID days and watching what she did
Very inspiring! ❤️
Thank you 🙏🏼
Please have some one working in a Federal hospital like Veterans Affairs.. I would like to know the benefits/ advantages in working there as well as everything about pay and benefits! Thank you so much!
Bro! I love this channel. Please make one for LPN’s and CNA’s.
I would love to. Do you know any LPNs ir CNAs on CZcams I can reach out to?
@@NursesToRiches I'm a CNA, but a current Adn student
I am a Filipino nurse as well. Gonna move to the US from the Philippines this December. Hope everything goes out well. 💯💯
Amen
Soon🙏😇
It is not just going to go out well, it will be a life changing event not only for you but for your parents as well!. Forget the 2-3 hrs travel to work, low income salary and boring weekends! In maybe a year of you being here and being well adjusted, you will start to reap what you sow. Drive a Tesla,, speak and communicate more fluently, and enjoy the beauty/landscapes of this 1st world super power country! PAYAMAN!!!
Make it happen!
My only advice is stay humble & don’t get into huge debt/peer pressure. Im a filipino nurse who came here 2010
Dude you are growing so fast! That differential is a joke, that's why I'm not doing bsn in university, I'm in a community college paying cash/ grants for my program, =avoiding debt and also I'm an immigrant, CNA,
Yes! As a travel nurse the retirement savings situation is indeed complicated I wish there was a special retirement plan designed for us if not I hope it’s in the near future 😊
Buy bank stocks right now. BNKU.
Or just watch it and see if I'm right.
I'm happy to work out an arrangement with you to give you my investment newsletter.
UC does not pay for bachelors but you get stipend for specialty certification eg CCRN, MSRN etc like $100 a month 😬
Proud Filipina nurse here
Make a video on financial planning with the 403b and IRA 🙏🏾
Sure! I’m in an ADN program now and it is almost free program. Then we only pay like 7k to get BSN, and some hospitals will pay for us to obtain that. At the end, we save 75K from private school 😅
I think this is definitely one of the best ways to approach getting a BSN.
Amazing
Same! Got my ADN for free with FAFSA then went directly into a RN to BSN program while working and will graduate in December with my BSN for free as well because FAFSA goes back 2 years in your finances for approval!
Some people aren't that lucky, they either come from families with too much money to get approved for FAFSA or public school programs are so competitive that it is super hard to get in which is why they go the private school route. Either way I feel super lucky to be making $100k a year as a new grad and have zero debt!
@Family Life And Daily Activities I’m at Chabot in California now. Well the school doesn’t accept new students in this year due to shortage nursing instructors, but we will have new students coming in next year for sure.
If your GPA and Teas score are good, I think you should apply to public schools. I know we, nurses can make more money later, but I still prefer public schools compared to expensive private ones. Most of the senior in my program got the jobs after they were done with the program though.
Literally at Sinai now 🤣🤣🤣 Nov 4 will be 19 now …and finishing my MSN in LI
Thank you so much Sir ( beautiful nurse Monica’s nurse husband, I would love to know your name Sir, I love your authenticity, your professionalism, your knowledge and your positivity and Praise and Thank God I came across your channel 🙏♥️🙏You are such an inspiration to the youth and young professionals especially in this challenging times♥️God bless you and your family 🙏God bless us all🙏♥️🙏)
So nice of you. My name is Jason.
The only way i will get a master degree is if the hospital pays for it other than that I’m not getting a generic msn to have a 50 cent raise doesn’t make any sense to me.
Exactly. It just doesn't seem worth it if the only thing you're going to get out of it is a raise of a few cents in your hourly rate.
With a lot of nursing jobs the salary differs depending on where you live. I graduated in May with a MSN and just accepted a job as a clinical instructor making $18/HR more than my current bedside job.
Which also allows me to not have to remain at the bedside as I am an older nurse in my 40s if I don’t want to.
Omg I played softball with her at the FHYAA!!! Hey Shiella! Doubt you remember me lol
That's so cool, lol.
Can you talk to salaried nurses in your area for comparison purposes. Maybe nurse managers or charge nurses?
Accelerated BSN 18 months program but it’s stressful .. almost of the students are 4.0 GPA and still failed
Great videos! My girlfriend just started nursing school and we were both wondering what would be the best bang for her buck when she graduates? Locums work? Travel nursing? She's still on the fence about pursuing NP school. She'll have a bit over $50k in student loans. We're in Texas btw.
If you can go along with her then traveling would be the best thing to do. Or she can just take a 13 week contract somewhere so she can knock out all of her loans asap. Then, if you guys want to make the most money you should either move to Northern California (trust me, she'll make so much that the cost of living will be negligeble) or move to one of these cities (czcams.com/video/8m8SdQIbLtY/video.html) or one of these states (czcams.com/video/B0Ncdg2TS8A/video.html).
@@NursesToRiches Thank you so much for your reply! I will definitely check those out :)
@@NursesToRiches but isn’t it very competitive and hard to get a job in Northern California?
@@jfaustin1742 around 64% of new grads are able to find work in less than 3 months in California. Another 23% to 25% are employed in 3 to 6 months. So, I wouldn't say that it's hard finding a job here in California.
I was so mesmerized by her face I didn't even care what she had to say about sky diving.
😂
in the philippines, government hospitals have a nurse to pxn ratio of 1 is to 25
This is what i recommend to all highschool students interested to become a Nurse:
If you want to graduate without so much Student Loans, start getting into the ADN Program in a community college. Then after 2 years take the NCLEX. After passing the NCLEX, you will become a Registered Nurse.
Once you become an RN, you can work in some hospitals that has a program for tuition reimbursements when you proceed for your BSN.
While working as a Registered Nurse, study to become a BSN.
Once you finish your BSN, you will have wider job market that you can apply. Its also an opportunity for you to specialized in the area you are interested.
Theres more privilege for you to take that path. Too long for me to write it here in the comment section.
It depends too. Some places are so impacted. I think if you’re going to go into some debt, it’s worth it because as a nurse you can actually pay it off.
You are right.
@F Y you are also right.
It depends on the situation of every individual.
I am about to go into debt because the program I want to take with the private school, offers better school hours as I am a mom and a wife and so many other things. Their schedule fits my life better.
I’m a female rn. Any tips to stay safe during travel assignments?
hi! can u make a video, canadian nurse vs. US nurse
I will be interviewing a nurse from Canada in a few weeks 😁
My father in law used to be an engineer and my brother in law is an engineer. Very common for males to be engineers.
What course did you take to help you with your CZcams channel? Thanks!
What do you mean? I didn't take any courses. I've been editing videos and photos for over a decade now and I just watched a ton of tutorials online whenever I ran into any issues.
that's crazy that a person with an advanced degree gets paid the same as one without
My thoughts exactly. Hospitals need to reward nurses with advance degrees, but they don't.
Awesome video. So sheila, is her tax home still NY?
one day!
.$.78 differential crazy with all the debt
Yeah, degree differentials are a joke in every single hospital.
Why did you leave Roseville for Sacramento?
We missed the feeling of living in a big city and Sacramento was the closest we could get to feeling like we were back home. But we still miss NYC and plan to move back in 3 years.
That 0.60 cent educational differential is a joke.
Agreed!
Thats why I'm not doing a bsn 😢
Are they still mandating nurses to get the COVID vaccine?
She said she single so what if I use this channel as a dating site and ask her out 😅😅
Las Vegas new graduate Nurse starts at $55. Per hour in 2024
🥇
It blows my mind when American RNs complain about 6 patients and in the UK its 'ideal' to have 8 and sometimes even up to 12 patients on a shift..
Well, every state and every hospital is different. When I worked in the emergency department in NYC I used to get up to 17 patients.
Monica was on 8E😂
She needs financial literacy .
At least she started by becoming debt free and staying that way. But we all have to start somewhere and, yes, financial literacy is extremely important-regardless of your income level.
@@NursesToRiches she did a fantastic job love her mindset .
She is American not Filipino bro. I thought it was a Filipina that came here to the US.
What does her race have to do with it lol
True🎃
Idk I clicked on it Bc Im Filipina and I was drawn to the sense of familiarity
There’s a lot of Filipinos in the medical field. This interview was a motivation story for others to watch/ listen so others can make it and not give up along the way.
My 3 filipino friends are all nurses at the hospital I worked at… I was in sales though.
