It’s interesting to see how new ideals and developers change their production procedures after looking twards certification! I feel we should make the pathway to certification more streamlined as far as writing the ASTM building procedures. Templates and directions from the FAA or from the EAA would be extremely helpful for the new enterpreneur’s entering the Aviation Industry.

Awesome motors and I’m sure they build them top notch but man those prices are a tough pill to swallow! It would be hard in my opinion to lay out that kinda cheese for something like that when I could stick with a legacy motor like the lycoming thunderbolt for the same money. Definitely interested in a Yamaha conversation for my zenith project though. Always been a big fan of Yamaha. I own several Yamaha motorcycles and have rode and worked on them for years and can attest to there ruggedness and reliability. They have always been leaders for innovation in the power sports industry.

Hey Bryan, excellent series! I’ve been watching and researching all power options for the CH750 SD. I’m NOT stuck in the old school horizontally opposed paradigm but rather favour the Viking packages. Better designed internals in the Honda engines hands down. Liquid cooling is a must up here in Canada. No need for Carb Heat or Mixture in the 21st century. So, would it be appropriate for you to respond to me if I can solicit YOUR opinion as above? In my opinion, Viking is best and most cost effective initially AND going forward! By the way, I love your channel, you do great interesting videos!!!

It would be an easy add-on w/ the existing fuel injection system and not terribly difficult for the carbureted engines, as I use this type of system on my air-cooled Corvair engine, w/ excellent success - aka: zero pre-detonation/knock.

I've been dealing with Automotive and automotive power plants for a long time. Since the mid 60s. I like the idea of learning about aircraft and their engine performance. The problem is is nobody but nobody have I ever heard talk about the actual engine performance. The only thing that they say is that the engine might put out 110 horsepower or 130 horsepower or 150 horsepower or 180 horsepower or 300 horsepower. Horsepower is not the only specification that is needed to know about the capability of the engine. You need to know torque specs when you're flying an airplane the horsepower means absolutely nothing if the engine can't put out the torque to keep the propeller turning. Why am I not hearing any of this in any of these videos that I'm watching. And it's not just this Channel on CZcams nobody wants to talk about torque spec. The only people I hear talk about torque specification is when recently I was watching a video on the lancair lx7 with a turbine engine. And at Cruise it is putting out a constant 230 ft lb of torque. Precisely the number I need to know if I'm going to investigate power plants, and power needs for different aircraft and how much power the engine has to put out. Horsepower is not power horsepower is a measurement and a specific RPM of the possibility of the work the engine can do. But if you've already run out of torque on the engine and you're trying to do everything with just horsepower you're missing a third of your power band. You can have 130 horsepower engine that only puts out 90 ft pounds of torque. When you might need the 170 lb of torque to get the plane off the ground. Why doesn't anybody talk about this specification. Every time I look at a video on engine horsepower for automotive application I listen to torque specs across the RPM band and horsepower across the RPM band. But in aircraft and boats the more important information to know is the torque specification because you have a constant load on the engine.

Sorry again Bryan for playing catch-up on your series. Great interview with Mr. Hauklien so the next time you speak with Thomas ask him why my Norwegian friends call me Mr. Kukien Man? lol. It’s funny how Rotax borrowed Edge’s ideas for their next series build. I wonder just how many design changes were borrowed from Edge’s designs? And I wonder if Edge is performing Rotax’s R&D for them. Edge has setup their build & test process quite professionally because they are combining engineering & manufacturing, material sciences and destructive testing to provide the aviation industry with leading performance. Thomas and their team at Edge have taken good designs then pushed their limits to new boundaries. We can see how they are going to be leaders in this industry for quite sometime now when you see the Mr. Henery’s of the world installing their designs and beating out the competition as if there is no competition! Everyone is now playing catch-up in the STOL competition and making changes to their aircraft designs as we speak. Hey that’s not fair Steve has too much advantage!
