In case you're still wondering, the slowdown for opening apps is mainly due to platform choices. Android runs Java/Kotlin apps under virtualization, iOS runs the apps with Objective-C/Swift which is compiled. Compiled languages beat out other types of languages (in terms of speed) hands down by a long shot, but that's because of what it means to a compiled language. That's more of a computer thing than an iOS vs. Android thing. Each approach has its benefits and drawbacks and history of how these platforms came to be is also involved.
13:32 you can access those volume settings when you press either volume down or up and click on those top 3 dots. It makes sense to me to control them separately as I would assume people mainly change their volume for media often and not ring/notification - at least that's how I do it. You have different mods to change quickly or turn off completely all channels.
Edit: Yeah, if you are on a home screen then you will adjust ring volume. If you are consuning media, it will adjust your media volume, etc.
I second this. Also it adjusts the volume for the type of screen you are on. If you are on home screen it will do your ring volume, if you are watching media then it will adjust media volume
also you can set the volume button to change ringtone volume
I switched to iPhone and I miss the crap out of the simple volume for media option.

The most important feature of this phone is the S pen. A lot of people have no no idea what it can really do.
He did'nt even test it LOL, He didn't even test DEX or multi-tasking or multi-window. This dude is an iphone clown.
@Hank Miller maybe not clown, but understandably as an iPhone user for years, he has no idea what features and level of customisation s22u offers. It's a multitasking beast, with so many settings for customisation of everything, that you can spend all day going through all of them and playing until u set it how you like it.
It's sad that he didn't get to understand what this phone can do, and its S pen. He obviously didn't learn about s pen according to what pops on his screen when he pulls it out of the phone. The feature of pulling out the s pen with screen off and being able to write instant note is amazing. I use it a lot when I need to write down a phone number or address quickly, but don't have a pen and paper handy. In the store, in the car, walking down the street, being on the phone.. and this is only one of many.. This phone is incredible.
@Pete Matheson Dex isn't the point of this phone. It's all about the S pen. Note fans like myself wouldn't consider a device without an integrated S pen. It's a shame that reviewers don't really understand the point of the devices they're reviewing.

Looking back, years ago I should have switched to Samsung, but I was a chest thumping iPhone users. Then in 2020 I switched from eleven years of iPhone only to a Samsung Note 20. Vast improvement to any iPhone I had owned. Things I like, DeX wow a killer feature I often use it. When copying something it does not become deleted when I again copy something else. Split screen view as in multiple apps on the screen. There are many more features as well.
Also, about Samsung throttling, please recall a few years ago Apple did it yet not for any bad reason they were attempting to maintain battery life. They then had to replace the batteries of those phones at a greatly reduced cost. Happened to my iPhone. Truly, I do not foresee any reason returning to Apple.
About the email thing, I think almost every keyboard on Android recognises when you start typing your email and some Android phones even display your email as suggestion before even typing up a single letter.
Apple: Toy, and you are an user.
Android: Tool, and you are an owner.
I can understand a lot of criticisms for the S22 Ultra... but performance? I have had no issues with how quickly things load. I tried the iphone 13 pro max but realistically the few milliseconds difference that may exist in loading apps is legitimately a non-issue for me. Its a solid phone and if you want a top flight android, it is THE phone. There will be improvements as time progresses.
It's very nitpicky and dumb.
When it comes to Volume control, Android demolishes iOS. I can't stand lowering volume for videos and then I can't hear my phone when it rings because the volume for EVERYTHING is tied together. I love having the option to keep my ringer volume separate from media volume. Just makes more sense to me.
What phone do you have? My 13 Pro do not have those problems, the volume of notificationgs (messages, wapp, viber, and ringtone) is separated from media volume. I Can put on high and low when l watch some of the videos, the ringotne and notifications will be the same.
@@HarryH187 that is been a thing since iPhone 4, most likely the 3GS has it too. Perhaps he just missed it?
Lol...dude in the iOS settings you can detach the media volume from the ring volume...
@@Mr.Deeds. Its not the same its still much better on Android
And you can set the volume buttons to control media volume exclusively.
Hey quick thing, for the volume, you don't need to go to settings, just when you turn something down and want to turn the rest down, swipe that large vertical line to the left and there you can control the rest of the audio.
Fix to the slowness: turn on developer options. Turn all the animations down to 0.5 and things will be much snappier. Been having to do that to my Galaxy phones since the S8+. Just one of those things
You know iPhone users aren't acquainted with having the freedom to customize their phone settings to that extent.

4:50 I agree. You'd think It'd be useless mostly, but I find myself using it every chance I get. The cool part about it, is that I don't even need to be in dex mode to use dex mode's features on my phone. I don't even have the flagship phones, but the pop up windows literally only has minimum lag when dealing with my 1.2GB game, So2. I really don't care about geekbench, nor does most people. You're right about the Galaxy Watch. It's not near the proformance of the AW7. I did switch to Garmin, as I could care less about typing, playing games, social media on my watch.
Switching to a Garmin is a wise decision.
As far as volume buttons only controlling media, you can change that in the settings to make it control the ringtone volume instead.
And it takes half a second to get to rest of the volume stuff anyway. That's what the 3 dots are for when you press the volume buttons.
I have no ideia what youre talking about that performance thing, mine works flawlessly đđ
Great content. As for the lag, go into the developer section , turn off all the animations, and watch how fast it responds. I've put my note20 ultra up against the iPhone 12pro max and tested the speed of opening apps, and my note20 ultra blew it away. The customization on the Samsungs phones are nuts compared to iPhone.
@Pete Matheson your probably right. But remember, when anything is mass produced, you will have some that are great, some that are junk. It could be just the phone. If you got it from a carrier like T-MOBILE, then trade it in. For a different s22 ultra. My daughter has the iPhone Xr, and she had to exchange it twice until they got it right.
That's not the solution. Regarding the price this phone should fly at supersonic speed when opening apps with all the animations enabled. It's so disrespectful that a phone which costs basically the same amount that the latest iPhone has these problems
@Levi PB we'll you enjoy your. I have to pay for everything for the iPhone. If that's what you have.

This is for the iPhone to match the extra dim mode of the Samsungs.
for the volume or mute switch, use side actions and change the press and hold functions of the volumes or power button to this function and it works like it was factory.
I'm in my 4th day into my S22 Ultra from an iPhone XS Max, I love a lot of things from it however I'm definitely experiencing latency opening up apps and using the camera.
Most people are scared of all the customization options that android offers. It can be daunting. A lot of custom widgets aren't super easy to customize and then you get into launchers. I've kinda mastered all that so that my android experience is exactly what I want it to be. But not everyone can do that and that's understandable. Both options are great. You just gotta work a little harder with android.
Because Android flagships, such as the Galaxy S22 Ultra, are for the most demanding. I only use Samsung flagships and switched to the iPhone 12 Pro Max for the test. I only lasted a week because the iPhone apps are of lower quality and lack many of the features that make the experience more enjoyable.I also had to give up on the iPhone due to the lack of security in e-mail communication, because it does not support PGP certificates, and S/MIME certificate support is frustrating. I have everything I can think of in Android. See you with the next best Galaxy đ
Theyâre customizable yes, but theyâre not for everyone. Most of the custom themes and animations look so childish imo
I'm sure they will fix the performance issue in an update. While it is a setting and most come preset to it, you can change the volume rocker to dynamically change the volume. No media playing = system volume change, media playing = media volume change.
I bought 2 s22 ultras on 3-19-22. From what I've seen the GOS throttling is an issue overseas. I do change up a few settings to optimize things for my usage. As far as lag or delay in animations I've had no issues. I've been a Samsung user for abt a decade now. They have notably improved. I use a 13 max as a work phone. It seems to be slower than the s22. But that could just be my bias showing đ
Bro the lag is because of the adaptive refresh rate since it goes low as 1 hertz the screen jitters
The lag you mentioned is as a result of new software exclusive to the S22 that Samsung has already said will be optimized in a big update this year.

Switching from iPhone 12 Pro to the S23 ultra cause Iâm just tired of getting the same thing every year
This is why I'm importing a snapdragon version from Wondamobile, I have the S21 5g, the exynos chip suffers from the same and it gets REALLY hot if you're doing some heavy usage or video calls for a long time.
One of those videos you come across where you just watch it through to 100% without forwarding. Subscribed!!
For the mute switch problem, you can actually press the volume button then click the three dots to adjust system volumes, ringtones etc. Or you can swipe down and use the control panel to mute your phone. If there was a way to import the Snapdragon version from the U.S, it is far better than Exynos. For video frame rate, you can actually go into "Pro Video" mode in the camera app, and there will be far more options for FPS and even aspect ratio, there's an option for 1080p 120FPS.
4:24 on your point about extra dim mode, iphone has something similar in accessability settings called "Reduce White point" which allows the screen to go that little bit darker
Settings -> Sounds and vibration -> Volume -> Use volume keys for media (turn it off)
Now, when you press & hold the volume down botton it will only vibrate.
in the beginning my s22 ultra seemed to be laggy like how you were talking in the video, but over the past few weeks (i got it maybe a few days early and use it maybe 12 hrs per day), it has gotten so much better. i read that android understands which apps you use the most at what certain times etc, so i think maybe that's why you see the lag when you are opening those apps and comparing them to iphone. for example, do you notice that lag more on apps that you don't frequently use? btw, i have both iphone 13 pro max and s22 ultra (unsponsored ofc)

You mentioned you can't control the audio level for notifications, ringtone, etc without going into settings, you can actually, if you press the volume rocker to get the audio level pop-up adjuster thingy, you can just swipe left (or the opposite direction of the side that the volume rocker is on the phone) and a menu with all the volume controls pops up. (Also a few other things)
Or just the 3 dots
There is also a setting you can click to make the volume work with it other than sound

Fair and balanced review. However, the volume thing is a plus for me because i like to mute all my stuff except for bluetooth volume. That granular control is important to me. The all mute thing can be added with an iPhone launcher
Settings - sounds and vibration - volume - the last toggle is use volume keys for media. Yours is set to on. If you shut that, it'll control ringer volume
I just got an s22u US version. I think if anything it's snappier than my 13 Pro Max in normal usage.

Can't help but notice newcomers highlighting Dex mode over and over again.
It completely replaced my previous setup, I now have my tablet and a monitor to plug it into and that's it.
The performance topic is so true. I had a S21+ with Exynos, and I found it very laggy in some mundane tasks, even compared to a S9+ with snapdragon. When I switched back to the Snapdragon variant, I never felt such issue. I think this is some kind of optimization issue.
Or the exynos chip itself socks! Everyyear it's that way
I'm still using S10 it's doing something the day I opened from case.
As a lifelong Android user, I would say this was a rather balanced review done by someone who has only utilised the Apple ecosystem when it comes to mobile devices and computers. That said, I think comparing these two systems is like comparing apples and oranges. Pun intended. Android is Android regardless of the device it runs on. What differentiates the feature functionality depended on the mobile device manufacturer.
I used Samsung Android mobile devices right up to the Note7 and then stopped using their devices due to the battery possibly exploding debacle. Instead of leaving Android for an iOS device, I switched to using the LG v series Android devices up to the LG v60 with the dual-screen. Once LG announced that they would no longer manufacture mobile devices I moved over to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. It is a huge upgrade to the LG v60 although the LG v60 is still a great device.
I've only had the S22 Ultra for a week and all-in-all I like it. The BIG advantage Andriod will always have over iOS is customisation. Apple has no intentions of allowing users to have the level of control over your device one has with Android-based devices. So I can see it is very difficult for someone who has traditionally used the iPhone to switch to an Android device and vice versa. The platforms are meant for very different audiences.
Because I've used Android for well over 15 years, I'm accustomed to how it works regardless of the mobile device it's on. I tried using an iPad and was completely lost because the system is not very intuitive to me considering how accustomed I am to Android. I imagine the same is true for you and others who have bought into the Apple ecosystem in general. Overall, I'm happy with the S22 Ultra but not so much with the battery life. I'm a power user and I'm not getting the battery life I hoped for with this camera. My charger is always handy.
I suggest you to get a 10000 mAh power bank. I have one and it's very useful, especially when I travel.
Love these honest unbiased reviews, great job!
You can control the sound without going to the settings, by clicking on the sound button the bar appears and on top of the bar there is a button that opens all the sound settings without leaving the page
Just recently got the android 13 update and I have to say, the performance is perfect. I noticed a couple of problems with Android 12, but they all seem to be fixed now. No stuttering or anything.
I have had the s22 ultra since launch. As far as performance, I have not had any lag and door stuttering and/or slow downs that you mentioned in your video. However, I've heard the same stories as far as other people having similar issues. Don't know if this is something that Samsung will fix in a update, but it seems like one UI 4.1 is the cause for a lot of this
When switching phone, people transfer all their files/data/apps from their previous phone. The samsung support centre guy told me the lag is due to the phone optimizing all the transfer data in the background and will be back to normal once it done. Its happen to me too when i switching from my s10 to s21+ . No more lag after few days
@@ahmadariffin977 That never happened to me when I transferred from my s10e to my note 20
Probably because you have the Snapdragon version - the exynos version Inn the UK is trash
Hi how is the battery life
@@ahmadariffin977 Interesting. I switched from the A71 to the s22 ultra and I had no lag after tranferring my data.
Currently using a 13pro. Life long iPhone user. I also have an iPod, iPad, ear pods.
Iâm ready to leave the shackles behind.
I have turned animations off for years in developer mode. I also use a Action Launcher as my default home screen. It wouldn't surprise me the One UI is having an issue here or there.
IAM a long time iphone user. Recently I switched to the s23 plus. I love it . One thing. U can't use the Samsung Galaxy watch with the phone .it's garbage. Using the pixel watch with Samsung phone work smooth. Love it.
I have a Snapdragon version and havenât had any lag at all. Itâs been very fast and responsive. Some apps load faster on an iPhone but it mostly performs the same or out performs the iPhone from my experience. Iâve had an iPhone for a very long time so switching wonât be an issue. Iâm kinda bored with iPhones.
Same
what a great idea for a video ! brilliant ! don't think i ever saw anything like that before ! subscribed !
when adjusting the volume you can slide the bar to show options for other sounds
I do have a snapdragon version and it runs smoothly and the performance is freaking amazing.
@@PeteMatheson I always hear the exynos version is behind or bad compared to the snapdragon. I wonder why Europe and a few other countries use it if it underperforms or is less quality compared to the snapdragon
I upgraded from a free phone to s 22 ultra, and it's been great. Some annoying things with the curved screen but I'm sure ill get used to it. The camera is too fun to play and shoot with, it loads apps super quickly.. and that zoom.. woo!
Had every galaxy phone up to the S21 ultra. Switched over to over to the iphone 13 pro. Going right back to the galaxy ultra when the s23 drops.
I rarely use the swipe style for even my new phone, but tend to switch back to the 3-button system. I know the features that goes along with that set better.
I use the SD8G1 and have faced none of those issues. I've had buttery smooth performance and not a single stutter. Your issue could be related to the exynos soc.
Great review! Iâm also a lifelong iPhone user and really want to swap to the s22 ultra for a change, but the biggest feature I donât want to lose is Find My. The ability to see where my family members are is crucial.
There are apps that you can download
@@willbuschmann cause sometimes you don't hear a text tone. The location share is easier if they also can't explain where they sre
@@Truecrimeresearcher224 Yep, itâs more of a safety feature for me. I couldnât find any other apps that can do what Find My does. I know Google Maps can share there location, but thatâs more on temporary basis rather than permanent
you can log in through the browser to icloud. Find works perfectly there. Easy to make shortcuts too in Android so you can have it easily accessible.
@@paulmitchell5001 ahh yes of course! Completely forgot about iCloud, great call. Looks like I could be making the jump especially if they fix the performance issue
MC HAMMER DIDN'T SING "Baby Got Back" - that was Sir Mix-a-lot! LOL
Hello. I'm living in Thailand and I've got the Snapdragon version here. It's not lagging at all like in your video.
Iâve had the Snapdragon 8Gen1 version and itâs very snappy. I switched over from 13 pro max. So far Iâm satisfied with it more than the iPhone.
Im making the switch tomorrow , so im glad to read your comment đ
What do u think about the battery? Can you get a full day with s22 ultra with 120hz?
In terms of which is better... honestly it doesn't even matter they both do the same stuff u won't die if u use an iphone or Android they're both companies that just want ur cash
The volume aspect, truly spoken like someone who is not familiar with Samsung phones
LOL!!! Using a picture of MC Hammer for a Sir Mix-a-lot song đđđ
The S22 Ultra is the benchmark for high end, flagship phones. I've had a Z Fold 2, Z Fold 3 and Pixel 6 and the S22 Ultra simply beats them all. The cameras easily best the Pixel and Pixel 6, the size of the phone allows you to multitask just like you would with a foldable and the S Pen gives you great tasking versatility.
Thatâs y the iPhone has higher benchmarks rightđ
@@shaggytewsak lol nobody cares about the benchmark scores. Did you think I did because I used the word benchmark? Apple stans can keep their cute little notch and boring ecosystem.
@@chadkuhns4386 andread Stanâs can keep their trash unoptimized os and laggy screens and continue to be lied to by their Samsung overlords đ€đ«Łđ€Łđđ€Ł
@@shaggytewsak and you Apple boys can continue to be locked into a boring OS, restrictive app ecosystem with your devices that never evolve or try to be different or push anything forward. Half of what Apple does, Samsung did first. But hey, you guys got a green phone this year! Had an iPhone. They no longer innovate. You also can't talk when Apple deliberately throttled battery life for upgrades. Did you forget that Stan?
@@chadkuhns4386 exactly fan boy u have nothing to say so sit there and shut up
As a S22 ultra user, I can say that this phone is the best on the market now. For me there's no better phone. It's just so easy to use, this is the most important thing when buying a phone after all
You do not have to go into settings to control other sounds. Simply hit the volume button and tap the 3 dots in the volume bar, this will open the other volume bars right next to it.
For the mute. In the setting you can enable mute all sounds and map it to holding up and lock buttor ect.
Ive worked for Apple and aside from 3 years with a OnePlus 6 and 7, I have been iPhone since the 4. Yesterday I ditched my 12 pro max and Apple Watch 5 for this phone and the classic watch. About to start watching your opinion and review as feel it could be similar to me.
I pre-ordered my S22 Ultra and it has been FANTASTIC. No stuttering or lagging. I am in the US with the Snapdragon version.
I hear a lot of people talk about the pen being "useless" for them, but a lot of us that work in construction and have to pull up prints on our phones it's great since wearing gloves you can't really use the phone all too great
The quick toggles on the drop down menu will let you silence the phone, in pro video you have a lot more options for FPS
Literally nobody I know with Iphone is not using Imessage.. probably Europe thing
Ive had Samsung's for a while, Snapdragon vs Exynos has always kinda been like this. Like seeing you pull up the app tray was pretty bad, like I have S22 Ultra snapdragon in my hand, I rewound your video to pulling up the app tray and mine was nothing like yours as far as the lag. My last phone was a note 10 plus, and in comparing that to my ipad air with the a14 cpu, the Note was faster at everything. So its strange seeing how laggy your Exynos was, for the most part everything is pretty instant performance wise on mine.
This samsung dex im excited to try it out. Turning a phone into a pc is huge and a futuristic thing. And i cant wait to see where it goes
I Have only used apple. But I am really thinking about switching. Random app crashed, keyboard not recognizing finger touches, random resprings, it randomly goes into multitasking and a bunch of other issues. They have been focusing on âfeaturesâ but they are nothing but bugs everywhere. Water of course messes with the touch sensitivity. It does it on my iPhone and my watch. That is nothing different. But apple has been slowly turning into a buggy mess.
