- The vline N class - a former Victorian Railways locomotive built in the mid 1980s, we're mostly used for passenger services, but are currently on lease with Freight as vline phase out locomotive Hauled passenger trains.
Here shot through charlton heading towards Wycheproof on an empty 9195 to Nullawil grain loader. In April 2024.
The Ns are fitted with a muffler, the A's have the same engine but didn't have a muffler fitted from factory, the difference is substantial!
I mounted my gopro on the roof while we were stopped at korong vale and picked it up again at crew change in Wycheproof at no point was I outside the locomotive whilst moving.
Safety is always my number one priority for myself and my crew mates.
Thabka for watching ❤️ - Zábava
Ah, when I was young I was scared of these beasts, because they were so loud. Now, the loudness to me is like music to my ears
I was hoping you would say "now the loudness barely registers 😳😁"
@@produKtNZ it registers, as a good sound
very nice mate, great to see some videos of the N classes back doing freight again, look after them. 🙂👍
One of the best sounding loco's in existence...
Love that horn. Its the best sounding of all them. Magic to listen to.
That frickin horn is so badass!
They sure are!
Got your hands on the N class… l were talking photos of N452 at Warrnambool today before it get taken off passenger service
Your loco roof videos are epic. Had to rewatch "ALCO 6-251B - Australian 48 class locomotive exhaust, soot & turbo spool!" between two viewing of this.
The roof view of the N class on lease to Southern Shorthaul Railroad. The 645E3B sounds good. Wow
Awesome stuff. 645E3B + RS5T horn is the greatest combo! Looking forward to more N videos!
You must be pleased to be behind the controls of these newer and more comfortable locos I would think.
Always sounds good through Ballarat and climbing Warrenheip Bank great stuff as always Adam.
The N class leasing agreements are awesome too.
28 October 2018 we went by train to Wangaratta and bus to Glen Rowan. Both train legs were with 463 in charge. That was my first trip by train in Australia, later this year we are going north on the Ghan.
Hi from NZ,
Anthony
Ah how cool!! The Ghan will me magnificent!
Nice tribute to the N. The face of the New Deal for country passengers in the early 1980s. And with the introduction of the N sets carriages was a leap forward from the trains being run with 1950s T and B class locos and 1920s W and E carriages.
G'day Adam,
Sound like they were build to pull can't waiting full noise notch 8
Climbing the gradient at Gooseberry with 40 wagons at max weight & hear that V12 working its arse off.
Cheers
Louis Kats 👍
Nice roof ride great video super sounds and my fave N too 463
Ah yes ...the old 12-645 turbo ! The only thing thats interesting about being in Queensland..LOL. The prime mover as our 2300 class on the coalies up here, and they do sound great at just about any notch setting! Always nice to hear a pair at idle outside my depot at night....as long as they get that signal so I can ....."rest" ..LOL
Nice stuff and stay safe sir.
Gregg.
I live near Ipswich. Often see and hear the coalies with a pair of 2300s on the head end. Learning what types of QR motive power, as I grew up living near the Ns, and G classes.
@@railtrolley The 2300's do sound and look good, and you now have them being rebuilt into 2700 class! These have the 12-645 replaced with a V8 -710 prime mover, which sound similar, but a little deeper and rougher.
Cheers, Gregg.
Nice video cheers from Greg 😊
DD/EMD 2 stroke ftw
The early EMD645 just had a conventional BLOWER didn't they??
Yes the E engines were, these are the later e3b engines.
Hey mate what do you think of driving the N class for freight use ? And hope you been well mate
They are fantastic so far, just a little light on their feet but they are a godsend to the BG fleet.
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER bet they are mate and as soon as Vline started to phase them out of traffic i knew they were going to freight use straight away and are use hoping to an A class from what I have heard?
@@nickpeterson102 yes there is an A class coming. 👌
Bet your a bit excited about it mate and have a great weekend mate
Will the Ns be painted in SSR colours?
Not at this stage.
Once the sale is finalised, I hope the colours and logo change, but the pattern stays. Paying homage to the V/Line service.
Very unusual seeing an N class leading a freight . . . (Without stating the obvious, why don't they just build more locomotives and not have dinosaurs frequent the railways?)
Because no one wants to spend anything on broad Gauge. So at this rate the Ns should be around till the year 3079.. 😂
@@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER Yeah funny that. All this "Work" going into more BG Freight yet you poor bastards are still stuck with Locos from when I was a Young(er) fella.
Have a read of the Wikipedia entry on them. Freight wasn't unusual for them until it was.
@ThePaulv12 that's right they were used as freight locos in the 90s now they are back at it.
@@ThePaulv12 I was talking more currently. 30 years ago they were heading freight . . .
Well, who gave you permission to steal our N class locomotive. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Haha it was out of my hands! But I'll take anything over 2000hp, we've gone from climbing warrenheip at 18kmh to 26kmh.. With the Ns.. They are a godsend, I just hope the boys all look after them because they are a huge asset to freight.
@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER I'm glad they got more balls than those Sissy girls your crew drives currently. Just remember that they stay in Victoria 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😀
