  • The Linn LP12 is one of the most iconic pieces of Hi-Fi ever made, first made by Ivor Tiefenbrun in 1973 the turntable is still being produced today in three levels: Majik, Akurate and Klimax.
In this video Alan Williams, builds our Linn Klimax LP12. We have a blog on our website explaining more about the turntable and the build process - www.soundstage...
The Linn Klimax LP12 is on permanent demonstration at our North London showroom, along with the Majik and Akurate turntables.

What's the difference between this one and the Sondek LP12?

This is a Sondek LP12. The LP12 is split into three levels, the Majik, Akurate and the Klimax is the top level turntable.

@@soundstage_hifi7724 Right,I thought Sondek was the model designation and LP12 the designation for Linn's turntables.
Is it possible to upgrade the Majik all the way up to the Klimax?

@@QoraxAudio All Linn LP12s can be referred to as a Linn Sondek LP12, it is Majik, Akurate or Klimax that donates the model with modern LP12s. Previous generations of LP12 didn't have models so are often referred to by the parts that make them, ie the tonearm, cartridge etc.
You are correct in saying that you could purchase an Majik LP12 and upgrade it all the way to Klimax level.

@@soundstage_hifi7724 Sounds like it is a great turntable to tinker/experiment on, to make home brew upgrades for better dampening features etc.
Would be a fun project to learn about mechanical properties of shapes and materials!
I already learned a lot of the basics about materials back when I was into tonearm resonance and different dampening rubbers.
Similar materials might be useful for things like the chassis/suspension and plinth.
And from what I've seen on the inside, it's very easily serviceable.

@@QoraxAudio It absolutely is, the only word of warning I would give is that don't start playing around with the turntable unless you are pretty confident mechanically and also make sure you have a good Linn dealer on hand in case anything goes wrong.
Half of the magic in the LP12 is in the setup, if it isn't set up exactly right the turntable won't sound correct.
It certainly is the tinkerers dream turntable.

Because music is completely subjective. The creator may really like that piece as might others. Doesn’t make it naff just because you don’t.
