- Now, our beloved Spy Kids franchise is getting a new reboot. The last of the Spy Kids movies was released barely a decade ago but Netflix thought it was time for another. The new one will star Zachary Levi and Gina Rodriguez. Let's talk about it.

There is no way they'll be able to replicate the style and charm of the original.
The reboot movie was pretty trash so I doubt they'll make this new one any good. Part of the charm was the goofy looking cgi but that trailer made it look like an MCU movie or something (NOT a compliment)
Who cares honestly
It'll be 100% Woke and trans.
@@bandawin18 did you see the cgi they used it was super goofy looking and not at all like the mcu movies it looked exactly as goofy as the originals
well it is the original instructor who is instructing the movie so i thing it could be okay but i also think that people thought something was good when they where a kid and remembers it to be good but when they rewatch it when they are older there is still some nostalgia making it better but they can see that it actually wasnt that good
I'd be fine with a reboot if Carmen and Juni had their own families and their children found out that their parents were spies also bring back Carmen and Juni parents as now grandparents
@mikesmotorsportsgamingrevi4814 I would definitely watch that! Hollywood has unfortunately been losing it’s “magic” and creativity. As a someone who was born in the mid 2000’s Spy Kids was my childhood! I hate to see them ruin it.
That’s actually a wonderful idea, and something we would all watch. I watched spy kids, with my kids, as they were growing up, and we all loved it. U should be the new Hollywood script writer. 😊
I guess. It still would reek to me of a soft, smelly reboot. And no doubt Hollywood would screw it up royally.
They did something like that with the last Spy Kids movie. I think Carmen was an aunt or something, not sure about Juni.
@@PR-pe9oc I think at some point in the movie they should have to go back to the older Gadgets because there's something wrong with the new gadgets it would be a way to throw back to the original come into this Dusty room with everything covered up and just start uncovering things reviewing gadgets from previous movies
The parents in the original Spy Kids were not sexy, they were dorks. While, yes, the two actors were attractive, that only added to the fun of seeing them play dorky, embarrassing parents offsetting the "cool" spy careers. The kids were still embarrassed by their parents which was the relatable part for the audience.
Making Antonio Banderas an awkward dad was an awesome move
thank ypu this was bretts worst point ive ever seen in any of her videos
“Mom and Dad are spies!” “You think?” Why do I get the feeling the male characters are going to be portrayed as stupid 😂
Also because they are so young the quipped snarky one liners aren’t that cute. It just sounds bratty. Don’t know why I just don’t like attitude on a 6yr old. And while Carmen was the clever smart one she was also older so it made sense she would have a bit more understanding than her brother. In this trailer it looks like she is younger so it just looks bratty and like the boy is an idiot for idiots sake.
@@meganjaime7728Carmen was clever, but she was also very antagonistic in the first film. She resented having to care for Juni and was a real bully to him. You weren’t _meant_ to like her initially. The reveal she still wets the bed was a payoff, because Juni finally stood up for himself. Of course they both come together by the end, and by the sequel they’re a well oiled team.
With this remake it’s very likely they’ll start as insufferable children, *stay* insufferable, and somehow by the end you’re supposed to like them for it.
Of course the kids are younger, it gives them room to make 20x more sequels before they get too old.
@user-NICEGRAM-APPbro isn’t trying to scam him
😂
Or reverse ageing CGI. When done well it can work. When done cheaply it looks bad.
I will admit, I LOVED the original SpyKids trilogy! Fun, cheezy, actually cool and interesting, great acting, and humor!
No other kids can replace those siblings, they had good chemistry on scene!
Same!
That was peak children's action series along with Shrek
Yeah, it may too soon to speak, but the 2 new kids seem too basic. It seems like they just picked 2 kids at random. They actually tried to find super good child actors back in the day. OG Juno and Carmen were extremely charismatic and well acted, and are the main reason the first 2 movies are still regarded as a classic even today. It seems they don't even try with child actors nowadays, actually seems like newer movies don't try at anything, vast majority of AAA movies are ass.
The microwave Big Mac was my dream 🤣🤣🤣
Bro Stan is so funny teaching his spy kids class in American dad
Man I loved that series, stop ruining everything woke hollywood.
I mean, I have no care one way or another for this franchise. With that being said, you don't have to watch it...
@@nette9836 I prob won’t go see it, I did really like the series tho
@@sleepyotter.Same, it was part of my childhood, I’ve watched those movies countless times. We don’t want remakes, they’re dumb.
@@thatguy720 Exaxtly!! I loved those movies, as much as my parents thought it was cheesy I loved them.
@@sleepyotter. Cheezy, but nostalgic lol
Spy Kids is, at its core, all about the importance of family, and the missions Carmen and Juni went on were always wackier and more surreal than, say, Mission: Impossible or 007, which was part of the series’ charm and helped it stand out, especially for kids. This reboot looks like it’s gonna play the spy aspect completely straight, and given Hollywood’s track record as of late, I have a hard time believing the familial themes will be little more than lip service, assuming they’re there at all.
No heart. No soul. Hard pass.
Now that the movie was released and i watched it out of curiosity, i'll say... not bad. I actually enjoyed it. In no way it stands up to the first 3, is an unnecessary movie that nobody asked for, pure cash grab, but still in my humble opinion is fun, but it's all, just fun to watch as a popcorn flick with family, wich is far more than most hollywood movies these days. Tough unnecessary and not even close to having the charm of the original, i think is an enjoyable movie nonetheless. However yeah, originality is dead and the intention behind this movie makes it understandable nobody wants to watch it
But to me, the forth is the only unwatchable one.
It’s sad how many films there probably are out there that are 10/10 but have sadly not been promoted enough.
I've found more good movies on movie recap channels on youtube then from movie theater trailers or commercials
@@BlueKatanaWarrior Yes exactly
@@BlueKatanaWarrior could u tell me a few of them?
I had told a friend of mine when I saw this uploaded, that they ONLY way a reboot of Spy Kids would be good is if it was following Carmen and Juni (and their s/o's) as parents and Gregorio and Ingrid as the grandparents.
I was obsessed with the first spy kids movies as a child. They had christian values like forgiveness and the importance of family. It was great.
Raya
I’m mostly upset that it doesn’t seem like Carmen and Juni are gonna have a part in it. Like, I didn’t like the 4th one but at least they included the OG Spy Kids
I liked this one, unnecessary and pure cash grab and definetly wouldn't have the charm the first 3 had but i was curious and watched it and is actually fun, unlike the 4th that is cringy bad. But this one is enjoyable and made me think "WHY DIDN'T THEY PUT CARMEN AND JUNI ON THIS ONE AND LET THIS ONE BE THE FOURTH WITHOUT THE 4TH EVER EXISTING?!" I'm pretty sure more people would give this movie a try if they had saved carmen and juni's appearence for this one, and it would work cuz unlike the fourth this one is actually fun (even tough of course, not even close to the first 3 movies).
Gina Rodriguez did far more than most people would when someone cold-calls asking for 10's of thousands of dollars and legitimately expecting to receive something. That was a very sweet reply. Good for her. And equally wouldn't have held it against her if she just blew it off.
I loved the original 2 as a kid. I didn't like 3 as much as I thought I would, especially with it being in "3D" and being about video games, but at that time I attributed that feeling to being caused by having grown out of the franchise. I was 13 when the 3rd came out, and I was 11 and 12 for the first two. I still haven't gotten around to seeing 4, All The Time in the World, yet.
I liked the 4th one. It was trippy though.
Don’t watch the fourth, it’s pretty bad
@@Xxgxxaxx it was absolutely unnecessary, but it was fun. If you can put aside the bad acting, it's tolerable for an enjoyable family friendly film.
I only saw the first one. That was enough for me!
I watched the fourth one when I was really little and I absolutely loved it, then I watched the OG ones and loved them even more! I think the 3rd was my favorite
I was a big fan of the Spy Kids franchise as a kid. But given Netflix's track record of ruining good movies of the past, I definitely won't be watching the remake.
I loved Zachary Levi in "Chuck"-one of my all-time favorite TV shows. So I might actually _want_ to see this movie because Levi is in it.
My kids LOVE Spy Kids. And I like Zachary Levi. So we are excited for another one. (My kids love Shazam too) If they put in an agenda, I'll be quite upset, but for some reason, I have hope with this one. Kids can watch a million sequels and remakes of the same thing, so the remakes don't really bother me when they stay true to the original. All the other remakes lately have been crushingly disappointing with all the obvious agenda and changes ruining any nostalgia that makes me interested. They can just be super fun, or creative, but they've just been ruining them lately.
The original trilogy of spy kids movies were great. I was down with the 1st-3 movies. After that I think it started to go a little off. I felt like the 4th movie left the goofy action movie with jokes a child would understand but left out a key component or two. The original movies had spread a message of unity, friendship, and family all while showing how kids mature effectively. The brother and sister duo had always been at each others throat and yet they managed to get along when it counted. They helped fill out each others flaws and when they werent enough they werent afraid to ask their family and friends for help. They showed their struggles and how they beat them. If I had to select something each movie represented it would be as follows:
The 1st movie portaiyed a childs innocence and naivity.
The 2nd movie portaiyed a childs wonder and imagination/creativity a bit more.
The 3rd movie showed the responsability and results they can achieve when they are united like a FAMILY.
All which a child learns and works upon while growing up. Thus the audience growing up with the movies could kind of relate and understand the messaging material with each new movie. Siblings and new fans could still relate too.
If you ask me they lost that experience after losing the original casting in the 4th along with how they portayed their messaging. Its not like there werent new or modern concepts within the old movies for the time. Spy Kids 3-d: Game Over was one of the 1st if not the 1st movies to use 3d glasses in theatres. Thus starting the imax theatres popularity. It involved video games which many young pre-teens were all up in at the time.
I also think it had jokes and material an older audience could get behind too. Which makes it go from being a childrens movie to a family movie. Something we dont see enough of these days. Any childrens movie is seen as a family movie these days. I think people underestimate how much a child can understand. This leads them to kind of over parent or over censor certain material rather than help them understand it. A 2nd grader shouldnt be watching material so kiddy its like that of barney or teletubbies. Thats over protecting them. They also shouldnt be watching things adult enough to be like that of friday the 14th or nightmare on elmstreet or something. Thats a bit too mature in my mind. Yet many seem to know about this stuff at that age these days. This is all just in my opinion but still I doubt im alone here with my opinion.
P.s: the fact that Danny Trejos Machete character is a canon part of the spy kids universe as their uncle makes things so much funnier. Also seeing Stalone talk to multiple versions of himself in spy kids 3-d was hilarious.
It’s so weird how many reboots there’s been
I love Levi. Chuck is a phenomenal show and he is a legit fan just like us. His hope is to bankroll the Chuck revival season/movie himself some day. He feels like a much more relatable guy than plenty of actors out there. Though I love Banderas too. He could read a menu and it would be entertaining. I can't wait for more Dreamworks animation stuff with him in it because his role as Puss has been fantastic and they did so well with that last movie.
You should totally support Levi. You never know who are the undercover conservatives in Hollywood, but among bigger actors, he would be near the top of my guess list.
No, they aren't out of ideas. The remakes are the point. They are meant as replacements for the originals, interwoven with new ideologies to be consumed by a younger generation to aid in their capture.
Pretty much, it doesn't matter if it doesn't sell... what matters is that when people talk about "x" they talk about the "correct" version
This is spot on. Why else would they keep pumping money into films that continue to tank at the box office?
Why are we rebooting movies that are only like 10 years old. In my opinion a movie should have to be at least 20 years old before you reboot it.
The original spy kids came out in 2001. It has been 20 years, so that part of your argument is invalid.
@@empire_racing8258 I should have clarified I meant the last installment of a series I thought most people would understand that but I guess I have to spell it out.
How is every add transition so freaking smooth??
Every movie creator: let’s make another movie
People: about what though?
Creators: something you’ve already seen a million times!
People: but why-
We're big fans of Zachary Levi, so we'll definitely be watching to support him.
Yesss he was awesome in the "Chuck" TV show
@@I.no.ah.guy57 My family watched the new movie on Netflix and really enjoyed it
I loved the first two movies as a kid, especially as a Mexican American kid. They're wacky and kinda stupid (certainly not as stupid as Disney channel shit or nickelodeon) but they're entertaining and funny. Plus, Antonio Banderas and Carlos Santana? Who'd hate it!
You mean Danny Trejo? Santana was never a part of the franchise ever...
@@timothyfloogle No, but his music was. I was referring to the end of Spy Kids 2. But yes, I would include Trejo too
We live in the Age of Nostalgia right now. Every industry is plagued by remakes, nostalgia cash-ins, and numerous things from 10-20+ years ago are making a resurgence. I have been thinking about this for a few months now and I think we as a generation are no longer finding comfort in our future, so we are seeking the past with rose colored glasses. Which is telling of the current crisis that our society is facing in regards to our confidence in the leaders of society to lead us into a hopeful future. There's an unspoken desperation in the collective desire for comfort in the past that is indicative of the quiet hopelessness that has rooted into our society.
Companies know this. But we know the companies are going to try to force the current narrative into these reboots and turn them into modern day propaganda instead of just an enjoyable movie. So we push back on it. I'd love to chill on the couch with a fresh bag of popcorn and see a well-made Spy Kids reboot as a 30s-something year old with my girlfriend. She was obsessed with Spy Kids growing up, and I was a big fan of them too. But we know it won't be well made.
Very well said.
I don’t think I’ll personally watch the reboot because I don’t want to support the new narrative and marketing styles, but everything else you said totally rings true. If it was something I loved dearly and they actually did a good job, maybe then I’d watch it.
The 4th one was sort of a reboot in a way wanting to do restart the franchise with a new family and new kids. So having another reboot right after the reboot is kind of ridiculous
No way. This is insane. I remember watching this as a child
The statement on the 90’s and the early 2000’s being peak is pure facts. Nothing has been the same since.
Honestly I want to see this because I loved the original trilogy and wanted them to expand this universe for decades. I remember when Hollywood made a lot of films like spy kids agent Cody banks, clockstoppers and catch that kid. They were fun action filled comedies that made my childhood very fun. My only issue is something Brett mentioned and that was the kid actors being so young. The last spy kids movie and the sharkboy and lava girl sequel Netflix made with Priyanka Chopra had kids this young and it made it hard to get invested. The original siblings were 13 and 9, I was also 9 at the time and that worked but these new kids look really young. Hopefully the movie is good I really don't want another childhood favorite to be ruined by halfassed writing. Netflix did great with Carmen San Diego, I loved that show as a kid and Gina was a great Carmen. I thought the new anti hero plot was weird at first but they preserved the heart of original show. Please let them do the same thing for spy kids.
yea idk why brett being a karen right now
Omg you like fairy tail?? Cause i like it!!
Yes@@ftwan5277 I like Fairy tail
“The remake no one asked for” how to describe every remake ever made
I wish they'd do sequels or reboots of movies that weren't successful at the time but got a cult following, like Blade Runner. A legacy sequel to The Rocketeer would be awesome if done right.
Two movies I keep hoping for sequels, not reboots because the original cast members could play their older selves. Leon, The Professional and True Lies. It may be tough to pull off, but they would be exceptional sequels.
Great just we need another remake 😂
Can there be "The Comment Section with Brett Cooper" stickers?? would definitely cop for the bottle collection
I would've preferred Alexa Vega cast as the mother to make it a sequel, rather than a reboot.
Idk why but i find it so fun when Brett does the adds! It just flows soooo well! ❤😌 ✨️
Whoever edited this, BRAVO!!!!
Thanks 🤝
Love your segues!! Almost my favorite part.
Spykids 1 and 2 is childhood. Good times. No remake will ruin it for me.
Just to inform people, the original creator Robert Rodriguez is the one who started this project and the one leading the charge iirc.
Good analysis!
This was so much fun!!! Love y’all @Hopelane!!❤️
I love Brett’s new videos! They Always Make me either laugh or something new ❤
Warning: This remake contains a woke cast that consists of 15 they/thems and 5 different minority groups.
Buenos tardes Brett I hope you have a lovely week. Love your content 🤠
Great video, Brett...👍
Hey brett huge fan from south africa keep up the epic work your dog is also epic
All good things must come to an end……..Hollywood doesn’t seem to get that with all these remakes
"clap like seals" lol thats a good line.🤣
I’m more on board for a spy kids remake than a Harry Potter remake. At least if it fails it doesn’t do a whole lot of damage, and a success would just be an unexpected surprise!
Another? I’m actually kinda excited that gen z will get their own spy kids is nice. I won’t be seeing it because my spy kids are full grown, but I think it’s one of those franchise’s that can come back every few years to reintroduce it to another generation.
I’d actually kinda be excited to hear about a Baby Genius reboot cause that was MY choice series growing up, but spy kids was a close second
For the sake of Zachary Levi I want to enjoy this as a stand alone. I’ve like him as an actor since Chuck. I think the adults will do a good job. Gina is a cute actress I like her. It’s the kids who I think will be not so charming and not so good. They’re going to try to make 6yr olds seem clever but it’ll come off as bratty and snarky instead of charming and witty unfortunately.
Lol I loved the clapping seals part 👏
There was also a show back in 2018
I really like Zachary Levi! I’ve been a fan of him since the TV show Chuck where he plays a spy. He’d be the only reason I watch the movie.
if there was gonna be a new spy kids it'd have been better with OG actors and maybe take on the storyline of one of or both of their own kids
Disney used to re-release their movies around every 10 years so that younger kids could watch the magic. I do not know why that is not good enough anymore. Maybe sound technology for the theater?
I didn’t know about this till now
It’s so funny how the most “controversial” part about this whole movie is about stuff that really isn’t that big of a deal.
Man, I used to like Spy Kids. Game Over was my favorite.
5:00 wait.... there's FOUR Spy Kids movies? 🤣🤣🤣
Good thing I have lots of great classics on DVD. Good movies are so rare nowadays.
All this has got me to do is rewatch the originals
Hi

Wow, someone who is actually the first
Much love to you, Brett. I saw the first spy kids in theatres and I loved it. But the equals are not the sequels that float.❤
I agree
The SpyKids trilogy was one of the definitive staples of my childhood and i hope to God this reboot fails. If it does, it'll only drive old time fans to the the real spykids we grew up with.
You know there's a fourth one? :)
@@NyssaOwensyou mean the one without the OG Cortez kids? I'm a well aware of the fourth 😑
@@hiddleicious7962 yeah lol I was only referencing it because your original mentioned only 3 in the series. The 4th one is definitely...a trip. 🤣
To be honest, it is not that difficult to make new shows .
@user-NICEGRAM-APPplz shut up you fake
I agree with you
I used to have a crush on Zachary Levi because I was a fan of the show Chuck. Also, when I found out he could sing(he was the voice for Flynn in Tangled), that added to his hotness for me.
Same! I want to enjoy this as a stand alone because of the adult actors. I think they’ll do a good job. It’s the kids who I think will be not so charming and not so good. They’re going to try to make 6yr olds seem clever but it’ll come off as bratty and snarky instead of charming and witty unfortunately.
I can't imagine how it feels to be a writer with an original idea to be beaten by yet another remake. If you're going to do remakes, pick one from the early 1970s that no one has seen today like old vampire films.
Do we really need another Spiderman?
With reboots it's a hit or miss but 10 years ago... That gonna be a big MISS
Spy kidz was such peak early 2000s entertainment
They did that weird psudo- Shark Boy and Lava Girl sequel too
NOOOOOOO I LOVE SPY KIDS
I think if they made the kids that were in the original in this one, people would want to go back since they grew up with them but the new one will likely be a miss nobody asked for.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Zachary Levi
Laughed hard at fart on 2:54. Guess I will never not laugh at fart jokes😂
I miss the days when we just watch movies for the sake of "just watching a movie". No political agendas... No social issues... just pure entertainment.
Spy kids was in itself a masterpiece it doesn't need to be rebooted or changed in any way
Girl! Rebecca! Your sponsors have been off the hooooook!!!!!!!!! You’re on fire! 🔥😍👌🏼
I watched Spy Kids (2011) as a kid and it was so fun, this new movie is just another version of that one. A mom with a hollogram and running from bad guys.
These actors are gonna be adults who identify as kids 💀
Man nice to see that not only is Hollywood woke, but also dry asf
there was actually another one made a few years back called back in time, or something like that.
I’d love to see it come back as a tv show
I think Netflix did an animated tv show of the original kids. I didn’t watch it but my younger sisters who are still fans of the franchise watched it
I agree that remakes have become oversaturated. I dont have faith in the spy kids remake. But we do get some great remakes every once in a while
Also, love ur videos Brett. I think u r just absolutely stunning 😍😅
Apparently there is movie called we can be heroes that is apart of the series two
8:53 I enjoyed his Shazam series and 1 season of Chuck.
I loved when frodo baggins was in spy kids. I hope he returns
That top really suits you, Brett!
I love Spy Kids.
8:34 I've watched that part 5 times
As someone who grew up as a fan of the Spy Kids movie (more the first 2 movies, 3D sucked), this new one is fine. And I'm completely ok with it. Although I do find it a bit odd about how young the new kids in it are. I'm even more ok with this new one since it is being made by the same Director, and was filmed in Austin, TX, which is also where the originals were filmed. I also happen to live a little outside Austin, which just made those movies extra cool for me.
I'm also a fan of the actor in this new one, Zachary Levi, who also lives in the Austin area, and was in one of my favorite TV series, 'Chuck'.
Surprised it took this long

I’m crying
Yoooo Brett got a new vid style, a green screen
2:54, haha. The original Spy Kids was great.
