    Great review. However, for warmth, just buy an Outdoor Vitals down bag which is actually box baffle stitched and you will actually get loft across the entire bag instead of just between stitches. This bag looks like it wouldn't keep you warm in the cold at all with the way the baffles are stitched.

    Be aware that for International shipping, some countries make you pay an import duty processing fee plus taxes. In Sweden there is processing fee of a about $9 plus %25 of the item's purchase price, i.e. I don't buy anything I have to pay fees on. If it come from the EU the fees and taxes aren't applied.

    put a reactor fleece liner in it so you can wash the liner. I just slept with the liner at 55°f.
    you can use the liner as a pillow. guy it will protect and add to the warmth of the down bag. 13oz extra

    • @flashmanv3260
      @flashmanv3260 Před 5 lety +1

      true, but for a $50 sleeping bag that comes in at 15.8 oz you are almost doubling the weight and cost for the liner? With care, a sleeping beg hardly gets dirty anyway, and can easily be spot cleaned say the area that is around your neck.

    I just watched the video again and couldn't remember why I didn't get excited about the price the last time around. Then I went to Aliexpress again and remembered. They now charge as much as on Amazon. Some things are cheaper on Amazon. I did buy the tapered rectangular model a few months back, on Amazon, to use as a hammock top quilt, and it is a quality unit and still a great price. And wonder of wonders - the comfort rating is actually conservative, IMO. Thanks for the head's up.

      Hey Kyle I dunno if you've tried it yet but I have that Sea to Summit liner & used it. I have thought it to work but when you look into it people have actually done extensive testing on it and found that it doesn't improve the thermal capacity that much.
      So be careful using it in extreme stuff, warm clothing or a higher rated bag is far superior than a low bag + this liner.
      I have slept in -10C with it and a -7C comfort bag and it was rather chilly.

      If you look at the population maps of the USA you will realize that most of the population is on the coast. So if you live anywhere else then you might stand a chance as those areas would likely self implode and remove the population with violence. I believe if you can make it the first 3 months the population of the USA would be around 100 million or less. It would also depend on why and what time of the year this "hypothetical" idea happens in.
      Now back to reality. We had an ice storm here in 2009 where the power was out for 3 weeks. Then just two years later we had a severe flood that lasted over a month and while my house wasn't under water the access was only by boat. No I didn't need sandbags either. So 1 week maybe a little short on some supplies.

      When the Hurricane ripped through Florida one individual was keeping contact via social media that night until the power went out, and besides the fear for the worst scenario at his home, he was sitting pretty the night of the storm and for several weeks after, not just one week after it blew over. Meanwhile most in his town didn't have electricity, or even candles or lighting to last barely a week and were very low on food, etc... Meanwhile he had clean water, and hot water, lights and plenty of food.

      Bought one myself based on this video and your feedback. I took it out last weekend here in Utah. It got down to 38 degrees. I was fine most of the night using it as a quilt. Towards the morning when the temp dropped down, I had to zip it up and use it as a mummy but then was warm again. I think I'll pair it with a costco quilt and be able to use this up in the altitude and it will be less then 2lbs for the two of them. Thanks for the video and the push to get one

    Love the videos...very informative and fun to watch. Just wondering if you have given this bag a good trial run on a hike yet. I recently watched your videos on the OUACHITA trail and was wondering why you didn't bring this new bag since it clearly wasn't a weight issue. Seems like it was going to weigh the same as the bag liner your did bring.

      NO big test yet as we only have about 90 days a year of cold weather. But I'm taking it to Colorado next month and hope to get some better feed back then.

    Very nice video on this extremely low cost bag. Every time our fearless leader says he is going to bring manufacturing back to the US I always say Americans are addicted to cheap stuff off Amazon. I own some Zpack and Western Mt bags and they cost a lot more than that. Cheap is good for the consumer not so good for companies paying real wages and benefits. I will admit I am often amazed how cheap things can be purchased for on Amazon. Good video but I will continue to support made in America with high quality material and craftsmanship. It's not always possible these day. I do understand someone purchasing this bag though, it's great value.

    What is that thing that is underneath the sleepingbag? Some kind of quilt?

  • @ggg564
    @ggg564 Před 6 lety +13

    The reason it's so cheap is apparent at 6:35. You can see exactly how the bag is built: traversing stitching: you see the light through the stitchings. The cold is going to pass through easily. There is no way this can keep you warm down to near freezing temperatures.

      Bull Plop. All the top brands sell sewn thru bags in this temp rating.
      The Aegismax M3 bag is rated for 20 degrees F and is box sewn. That is normal.

      They have other with way more down for lower temperatures but of course they're more expensive but also much less than a brand name with the same amount of down

      Ive seen the same shit from enlighten equipment bags. They are no better at the fill and baffles. Especially if they want so much for it. Not sure why every damn ex hiker who starts a company wants to rape all of their fellow hikers. ( clears throat ) Z-Pack!!!

    When I go on Amazon and look for the Aegismax M2 and compare the description to the Aegismax the length is the same. I also looked at the M3. The only difference is the temperature rating in them. Is the description wrong or the statement about the length at about 2:30 mark? I have family members that need the extra length so I want to make sure to order the correct bag. Thanks for any help you can give!

      But the one listed just as the Aegismax on Amazon is L200cm and 800 fill for $73. When I search for the M2 and M3 just on Google they all look and seem the same specs. Am I missing something? Is the one on Amazon an actual m3 and just not labeled as one? The temp range is 2c to 8c which is the 30F to 40F range. www.amazon.com/AEGISMAX-Urltra-Light-Sleeping-Three-Season-L200cmW86cm/dp/B00XE2SKG2/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501548973&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=aegixmax

      The M3 is a much different bag. It is slim cut, has a hood and is rated to 20F. The M2 is roomier, does not have a hood and is good for 40F.

    • @tclucke
      @tclucke Před 7 lety +2

      On the average thru hike you can expect to see nights where temps go below freezing. This does not look like it would cut it in those circumstances.

    • @richarddiorio6041
      @richarddiorio6041 Před 7 lety

      Tclucke, I can see that. Maybe augmenting the bag with an SOL Survival bivy, or a 2Go Systems Trifecta, or perhaps even both would help in those colder situations. That set up would still be under 2.8 lbs.

    For a 800-fill bag I would expect a lower comfort rating, although this might be because it doesn't have a hood. My current bag ("Mountain-life Extreme") is a 900-fill one....there's not much difference in "fill power" but mine is rated at -10F to +46.4F (comfort) and -22F (extreme). I've seen bags with 400-500 fill which have much lower comfort ratings, although they're not as small or lightweight as the Aegismax 800.

    • @Natedoc808
      @Natedoc808 Před 3 lety +1

      The fill power is only part of it, this bag likely has far fewer grams of insulation

      TheGoatMumbler if u order from Costco.com u are more likely to find them. They only sell them in two packs and u have to pay shipping, but at the end of the day I got two down blankets for about 26 each :) no fuss with the Costco crowds either ;)
