    i use NFC tags in combination with Telldus tech, so whenever i leave my house, the NFC chip at my front door: maxes phone screen brightness, turns up volume on phone, and that was all fine and dandy for the first part, but then, enter: TELLDUS. that same chip now: turns off all my lights at my house, it turns off my TV, PC and turns ON my freaking alarm system! :D I love this technology!

    NFC hasn't gotten the widespread adoption it should have, it's hard to even find an NFC enabled TV these days... but I for one hope it doesn't go away, for one major reason - Photography. I might be one of the few people out there watching this video that still owns an actual Camera but most of Sony's current lineup of DSLR, Mirrorless and point-and shoot cameras (as well as other brands like Panasonic) support NFC, and it's an ingenious feature to be able to take a picture, tap your smartphone to the camera and instantly you have your photo on your phone where it can be edited and posted to Facebook or Instagram - in under a minute. I couldn't live without it now.

    • @andylie7699
      @andylie7699 Před 10 lety

      Yeah, on new cars these days you get keyless entry and you just grab the door handle and the car unlocks, same when you exit the car, just place your finger on the door handle and the car locks... Obviously the car key needs to be close to the door handle, or in your pocket.. Better than NFC in my opinion...

    • @RealationGames
      @RealationGames Před 10 lety

      Andreas Lie
      The closer the range, the better the security.
      There was a case when bunch of BMW X5s were stolen by extending the keyless entry range by following the owner with a repeater, copying the transmission back to the car where another guy received the "extended" signal. The car thinks that the owner is near, although it's just a copy signal.
      Then they drove them in trucks and it's gone.
      It's always harder the closer you have to be to the key owner, but it only takes few seconds to start the car.

    • @andylie7699
      @andylie7699 Před 10 lety

      That's exactly what they want you to think. I guarantee most iPhone users didn't know Google Wallet existed. Apple likes to trick everyone by using words like "innovative" when it's nothing new at all. Also, that time last year when they told a straight up lie with the percentage of people using a version of Android. Apple users don't get it.

    I think NFC will REALLY come into it's own when 2 things happen. Firstly when Apple adopt it. Not because apple will necessarily do a better job, just because of numbers of users will grow substantially, and Apple have alot of sway with other manufacturers (eg how many cars now have apple docks, they have a lot of industry clout).
    Secondly fingerprint reader on the phone. If you can add a quick, yet very secure method of security it means NFC can be used to replace passwords etc

    I remember in 2017 when I started using Samsung Pay (it became available to my phone then in the fall of 2017), cashiers were surprised to see it was possible to pay with your phone. Do note that back then most payments I did with Samsung Pay were through MST, as NFC-enabled terminals were relatively uncommon back then in my country. Now every shop has terminals with NFC and MST is dead in Europe.
    And in 2019, I surprised my colleagues in a shop I worked in over the summer by paying with Samsung Pay. The manager is just 10 years older than me (I'm 22), and she didn't even know that was possible

    Nfc tags under each item on a shelf, in a store.
    Tap item's shelf tag
    Phone researches info on the item.
    -Item Specifications
    -Discounts that may be available
    -Add to cart
    -etc...
    Bring items to check out.
    Swipe phone on cash register.
    Pay with Google Wallet.
    Voila!
    I'm working on an idea I have to integrate NFC tags into day to day task at work. Maybe once a task is complete, you could swipe a tag and it would check it off your list and email your boss to say it was completed. So many possibilities!

    in my opinion, NFC in phones are crap at this current time and of no real use and not very practical at all which is why it's slow to adopt. I would rather get one of those kickstarter NFC rings and use that instead of my phone. There wasn't a need for it but someone thought it would be cool and now people are trying to create a need for it. Now instead of just using my fingers to perform functions on my phone, I have a bag full of NFC Tags that can do it, but wait, I forget which tag does what. Oh, and the time consuming job of programming and reprogramming every single tag is another thing. By the time I had programmed them in the first place, I could have already performed whatever function I had programmed it to do.
    This is innovation working backwards. NFC for locks, starting the car, logging into a computer or other password protected places, NFC for safes, or even time cards are practical uses. The all one would need is an nfc ring with an i.d to perform those functions.

      You're not getting the point. The thing is that most people in the twenty-first century have a smartphone. Integrating a NFC chip in the phone is a complete no-brainer. There might not be a need for it now, but later the technology might pick up speed and momentum. Also, let me point out a few things wrong with your point:
      1) The 'bag full of NFC tags' point - You're meant to stick them in different places, like near your door. So, when you go out of your house, you tap your phone on it, and it does whatever you need it to, like launch Maps, increase the volume, etc.. You're not meant to stick them all in a bag and then fish one out whenever you need to do something. That would be time consuming, and counter-productive.
      2) The 'time consuming job of programming chips' - You're meant to do it once. Not every time you need to do something. Now, say you need to launch an app, or a bunch of apps, you program a chip so that in the future, you just need to tap it. Otherwise, whats the point of an NFC tag?
      Admittedly, the NFC technology isn't really necessary now, but you can definitely see a potential for it in the future. Hell, I would love being able to pay at a shop just by using Google Wallet and tapping my phone at a NFC tag at checkout. Though, chances of that happening here in India are infinitesimally small.

    • @lapamful
      @lapamful Před 9 lety

      It's a method of payment for shops and things. You swipe your phone to pay instead of a credit card.
      Nothing wrong in it per se, but Google would love to replace money. So what happens if someone's in badly in debt and needs to pay bills but also wants to buy food and can't because of a freeze on their Google Pay account?
      It's essentially about taking away yet more freedoms; to spend money wherever and whenever we like.
      That's the very real danger.
