Shout out to the Lost in Austen and Austenland love~ two of my favorites
I like those movies too. I want a sequel about Amanda Price's brother Kevin falling into another Austen book and crossing over with Amanda's p&p universe.
Bride and prejudice is really good but underrated 💖
I adore "Lost in Austen", it's largely underrated, is a fun look at Pride and Prejudice through a contemporary lens, and Jemima Rooper is outstanding in the lead role.
I was just about to comment how much I enjoyed Lost in Austen! I loved it!!
I enjoy that one, too, a fantastic guilty pleasure watch.
what a great list... I've seen all of these!! Austenland is soooo great and the funny coincidence is that Keri's character is addicted to Mr. Darcy and in real life is partnered with an actor who's played him in the past Matthew Rhys. Also if you haven't checked out The Lizzie Bennett DIaries they are soooooooooooo awesome!!
Yes, I knew that "Clueless" would rank high on this list, it's the most iconic Austen Adaptation ever. It uses a Valley Girl twist to bring "Emma" into the 90's.
I really enjoyed jane Austen book club 🙂🥰
BEST list yet! I don’t like the Book Club, but the rest are all amazing (and thanks for remembering the Lizzie Diaries)
The book club feels like a film about annoying tw*ts who couldn't comprehend Austen if their lives actually depended on it. It shouldn't even be on this list.
For the Bride and Prejudice fans - the Tamil film Kandukondain Kandukondain! A Sense and Sensibility adaptation, with Aishwarya Rai in the Marianne role, and A.R. Rahman's music!
I love that one! I really liked how they adapted the Colonel Brandon character for it too.
Whoever's reading this,I pray that whatever you're going through gets better and whatever you're struggling with or worrying about is going to be fine and that everyone has a fantastic day! amen
I can't believe you put Bridget Jones's Diary as #2.
Austenland should have been a hit! But had problems with release and never got the attention it deserves. Hopefully new interest in Jennifer Coolidge helps
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is only good because Lily James and Sam Reilly are fire. Specially in the proposal scene.
I love Austenland. The book is as equally awesome
Fire Island is said to be very trash. Just by these clips I get the criticism
Not a movie (yet) but I really liked Jasper Fforde's book, The Eyre Affair. In an alternate world, literary detective Thursday Next finds she can enter the archetype of a story -- the one that all print copies are versions of -- and ends up rewriting Jane Eyre to the ending we know and love.
Kandukondain Kandukondain or I Have Found It an Indian-Tamil movie based on Sense and Sensibility whilst understandably not listed is a good adaptation worthy watching. All the actors play their parts well and does have Aishwarya Rai as the Marianne character.
good video
I mean we all knew Clueless would be number 1
Make a top 10 best Logan and Camille moments in Big Time Rush, please.
Austenland
Glad Lizzie Bennet Diaries made it into the list. Though I'm still upset about the treatment of cast and crew 🙁
You forgot the 2003 modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Elizabeth is a university student with 4 roommates. The modernization of the characters was done so well. It's on CZcams, you can look it up.
The first Georgette heyer books i read is marriage of convenience.. it's good ❤
ms mojo is a good channel
You didn't mention the tv series Austentatious 2015. I loved it but they have made only one season which makes it sort of incomplete.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I like the top 4.
Fire Island ❤
As many times MsMojo talks about Clueless, it still doesn't help that I need to watch it.
Thank you for putting Fire Island 3rd. That movie is so underrated.
I'm always first to make a comment
Pride & Prejudice: A Latter-Day Comedy?
My idea on suggest WatchMojo my idea top 5 girl characters show want see turn into a giant again
Why wasn’t Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson on this list? It’s one of my favorites
Sense & Sensibility was not “inspired” by Austen it was actually written by her. There is a Mojo list for best adaptations of her actual novels. This one ain’t it.
@@dearyvettetn4489 I think it qualifies because the movie wasn’t by Jane Austen it was based on her book just like the other things on this list that were either based on or inspired by her books.
They recently did a “traditional” book adaptations list. All of these are films that either put a different twist on one of Austen’s stories, her concepts, or imagine Austen’s life itself, while the other list ranks (mostly) best for beat period pieces with no twist.
@@cakt1991 That’s a good point!
clearly he hasn't read the book if he thinks Fanny Price is unbearable. He knows nothing about her circumstances - and nothing about the time if he doesn't know that to be in the theatre was considered something dishonourable and shameful.
I've read the book several times, and even considering that Fanny Price was Austen's ideal of womanhood and knowing that theatre back then was considered disreputable, to say the least, I still think Fanny Price is a thoroughly unbearable goody-two-shoes. It's my least favourite Austen novel, for that reason.
👏 Fanny is the best heroine Austen ever wrote.
@@choedzin I think readers who dislike Fanny are jealous of her goodness on an unconscious level. It's sad, really.
@@choedzin leaving off the reputation of the theater (because that's neither here nor there) it's a matter of friggin RESPECT. Fanny was the only one of the young people who was like hey maybe we shouldn't turn my uncle's house into a theater without his permission while he's out of the country fixing his financial problems. I love Tom Bertram (I have a huge literary crush on him ❤️) but what he did to his father's house was super disrespectful and it led, in time, to his sister committing adultery. It's friggin screwed up. Fanny was RIGHT.
@@choedzin I always just felt it was really hard for her to become a full person with Aunt Norris always breathing down her neck. But even when she's quiet, meek and obedient she never does anything she genuinely doesn't want to do - ie she didn't want to be part of the play because she knew her uncle would be against it and didn't like going behind his back and (I think) because she didn't want to play the comic role, and she didn't accept the proposal from Crawford because she didn't find him trustworthy but didn't get her cousin into trouble by saying why she didn't trust him despite all the pressure and criticism she was put under for refusing him.
Who
Aw, come on - Lost in Austen is definitely "loads of fun", whilst Pride+Prejudice+Zombies is simply ludicrous, IMO.
RE: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I loved the book, but the movie? Gawdaweful! And I don't feel like I need to explain why.
I love that movie.
Fire Island is waaaayyyy too high on this list. It appropriates Austen way more than it adapts anything (Clueless it is certainly not). That you ranked it higher than Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is appalling. Even Bridget Jones is ranked too high but I would at least say Jones is also its own thing so that's okay. Fire Island is a joke.
If it has Austen or any of the titles in the name then I know it's based on Jane Austen.
title: MOVIES
list: not movies
As a fellow gay man.... That Fire Island movie was horrendous typical bottom of the barrel storytelling + cringe acting
Thank you! 👏. That movie is overrated and terrible.
Is it just me that calling this video "10 Movies You Didn't Know Were Inspired by Jane Austen" and then having a bunch that have her name in the title a bit of a misnomer?
