The best part of the super bowl is. Yeah, 28-3. But the Patriots' first touchdown drive was still an arduous, absurdly long drive. Then they clanked the PAT off the upright. After that, the Patriots still needed:
    -Two touchdowns
    -Two two-point-conversions
    -A field goal
    -A defensive shutout
in 17 remaining minutes of play.
Literally all the Falcons had to do was score even a single measly point, or stop one of the Patriots' drives. Hell, even stopping one of the conversions would have done it. But nope. They did exactly enough to choke it all away.

    • @constantintorve2614
      @constantintorve2614 Před 2 lety +2

After *being already in field goal range* with four minutes left. That's the worst part of all of this. Just run it three times, see if you can get a bit closer, kick the field goal and it's most likely game over. Even if they never got another first down, the Patriots would have needed a touchdown, a two point conversion, a successful onside kick recovery and a field goal in about two minutes of play (or 3:30 with no timeouts if they use them to stop the clock there). That's borderline impossible. If they do get another first down, the game is over. Literally over.
That was hands down the worst coaching blunder I've ever seen, and I've endured eight seasons of Mike McCarthy wasting the career of one Aaron Rodgers.

    5:30
Lots of reasons why teams make the Super Bowl but don’t return to the playoffs the next season
Free agency depletes a team of key players as well as the replacements don’t gel as well
An injury at an important position
    Retirements of players
    Coaches and front office movements
The schedule: one year you are the best in your division while the three other teams aren’t playing as well combined with a division within your conference and out of conference are just as bad thus giving you an inflated win total. The next, the other teams in your division make adjustments as well as your out of division opponents are a stronger slate thus bringing you back down, as known as regression to the mean
SB Nation explores this in their Collapse series. Buccaneers (the first time they won a Super Bowl), Raiders, Panthers (2nd Super Bowl appearance), Giants, and Cowboys are discussed on why those teams were unable to sustain success after at least making a Super Bowl appearance

As terrible as it must have been for the Falcons fans in SB LI, it does compare to what happened to Seattle Seahawks fans in SB XLIX. The fortunes of both teams in that game flipped on a dime. Seahawks went from victory to despair, the Patriots went from despair to joy. The compilation videos of Seahawks fans the moment Malcolm Butler intercepted the Russell Wilson pass at the goal line are something to watch. Though I will say this. The Seahawks agony came swiftly and suddenly; the Falcons suffered a slow, grueling demise.

TIme to update the failure lol
2017: You've made the playoffs, only a brick wall can stop you....its name is the Eagles....again
2018: The team catches the injury bug and is dead by mid season but somehow finish 7-9
2019: The injury bug is gone but you're still trash, another 7-9 season
2020: Your reputation for choking is revived and shoved down your throats deeper than the Mariana Trench. You finally fire your terrible head coach after starting 0-5, but instead of going on a "everything is fine we don't need to rebuild" winning streak you end the season 4-12 and not only do you get the 4th overall pick, but its another year of wasting the talents of Julio Jones and Matt Ryan
2021: You trade your best receiver in team history to the Titans, But you also draft a generational talent at TE in Kyle Pitts, hopefully you don't waist his career like you did with Tony Gonzalez, Sadly though, Matt Ryan is starting to regress, your other good receiver in Calvin Ridley ends up leaving the team 8 Weeks in to take care of his mental stability, and the only offense to speak of is from Cordarrelle Patterson. Oh and the 28-3 memes come back to haunt you with a 25-0 blowout to your Patriot overlords. But at least the Braves won a championship....yay?

NBA: Hawks have made the playoffs countless times, but have only reached the Eastern Conference Finals once(Lost to LeBron)
NHL: Lost TWO different hockey teams to other cities
MLB: The Braves are the most successful of the bunch, but only won one World Series during a decade where they went to the World Series 5 times and were division winners for 14 straight years overall.
CFB: Georgia Tech can never figure out how to become a decent football program, and UGA manages to either lose in the Championship game or the game that would lead them to the Playoffs.

UGA is on the verge of being a college football dynasty after winning back to back titles in 2021 and 2022. They would have likely won a third in a row if they did not lose a winnable game against Alabama.
