He's the heart and soul of the 9ers' offense and worth every penny. ESPECIALLY when you consider top WRs are going for $30m+
I'm not a 49er fan or a big Christian McCaffrey fan but that man I believe should have got the MVP last year He had a total of 2,000 yards and 21 touchdowns! If the Niners would have put that game on his shoulders particularly in the third quarter of the Superbowl I believe they would have won the Superbowl. It's too bad that it's obvious McCaffrey wants to win a Superbowl and his best chance right now is with the 49ers who are favored. He could have made more money with a different team. His value really is as much as a top receiver maybe kind of more. The top receiver can't put up those combined numbers. JJ is better atm, but CD came on super strong last season. I’m not a CD guy but he was really impressive. He’s literally all the Cowboys had at WR and he was still dominating. JJ now has Addison and Hockenson which helps a lot to give him more opportunities with less double teams. I’d still take JJ over CD but they’re not that far apart imo.

Gotta disagree with Skip about the league being like it was in some ways. Back in the 90’s offenses were not only utilizing the running game with the running back but the fullback was also getting carries. Like back during the Mike Alstott, Charles Way era. That’s unheard of now.

Keyshawn is absolutely correct 💯. Christian is a different breed of RB at hist position. He is kind of like Jokic in the NBA. At age 33 I can still see Christian playing his role effectively. He wouldn't be your fantasy player of the year but for a real game at age 33 he would still be highly effective. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if he redefines the RB position and future players copy his style of play.

if receivers are now more important than running backs, then this is because the NFL has become more pass oriented over the years. however, i would say that from the 49ers perspective that running backs are just as important as receivers and you can see why they are loathe to pay huge money to Brandon Aiyuk (a terrific receiver).

WR aint giving much more than 1350yds total per season. Thats great numbers for them. As a RB 1350 total yds from scrimmage aint really a big deal. Its cool, good job but its expected for all pro RB. 1350 total yds from scrimmage WR and they glazing tf outta him. WR are not so much more impactful than RBs. They just get fed more. Therefore top RBs need to be compensated within 35% of the wideouts min.
Hes got 4 years left on his deal. He still had 2 years we just added 2 more on to that. By the time his next contract comes around who knows what's going to happen hes going to be in his 30s as a runningback that gets 400 touches a year

Key is biased based on him playing the wide receiver position. No way should a receiver make edge or Left tackle money. The QB is the highest paid position so the people who protect that investment and attack that investment should be paid the next most. No receiver is worth that much and I’m a niners fan who had the privilege of watching the greatest receiver ever and still don’t think he’s worth it. The best receivers deserve to get paid well but not more than the best edge or LT players in my humble opinion. Obviously the Vikings disagree with me and they get paid millions to make those decisions and I don’t get paid squat from my couch.
CMC is the backbone of this Niners offense. 19m a year in a league that doesn’t value RBs is a great situation for him.
