Serving globally, it had roles in Northern Ireland, the Cold War in West Germany, the Falklands War, UN missions in Bosnia, and conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. WHO ARE THEY?
Formed in 1969, the regiment emerged from the merger of the Royal Horse Guards ("the Blues") and the Royal Dragoons ("the Royals"), units with roots in the mid-17th century. Serving globally, it had roles in Northern Ireland, the Cold War in West Germany, the Falklands War, UN missions in Bosnia, and conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. HOW LONG DO THE ROYAL GUARDS AND ROYAL HORSES WORK?
After the officer checks them at 4:00 p.m., everyone, whether they're on horseback or not, will be done for the day. Two guards on horses watch the entrance to Horse Guards on Whitehall from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. They switch out every hour.
WHY THEY SLAP THE HORSE?
The purpose of guards slapping their horses when dismounting is to ensure the horse is prepared for the change in weight distribution as the guard descends from the horse.
The first one on the neck is essential to tell the horse, "good job." The second slap is to inform the horse that there is an excessive displacement of weight on one side at dismount.

Tourists should not be allowed to pet or touch the horse in any way!
How about instead of abusing these soldiers, many of whom have seen active service for their country lost comrades !! and show them the respect they deserve!! they are not actors putting on a show which you may find in other Castles around the UK for the tourist!! these men are highly trained British soldiers who have a long battle history of defending the 🇬🇧. Thank you for your service one and all
Can anybody tell me why silly men feel the need to remove their shirts just because we're having a bit of warm weather?????
I know its gross 🤮 and rude.
Ugh!,,,,,,
P lost his way.
What a scruffy, unseemly rabble the public have become. Look at some footage of this (b&w) from back in time.
I was thinking the same thing, first off it's so disrespectful for where he is and second it's not a pleasant sight for anyone.
th boxman 2137 is getting very annoyed with the tourists. the shirtless guy was really making him uncomfortable. poor guard needs a hot cup of tea when his shift is done.and a beer at the end of his work day. very cute guard does not need this stress
The group with the man without a shirt, are hogging the horses.
They have so much protest in London. Crazy
Because the uk is too soft and allows everyone except their own to protest. It makes no difference in the country they’re complaining about
Sshoww respect..tell that man to put on a shirt..
I know eww😖
People just can't help being RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL. They don't even realize that they are because it is so normal for them to be that way.
Very few seem to realise that Horse Guards is not just a museum exhibition. Probably not even sure if they are real horses and people.
@@maybarnard1088 My suggestion to those people would be to STUDY UP ON THE COUNTRY they plan to visit and learn what is and is NOT APPROPRIATE behavior. 🤨🤨
They have got to stop this tormenting of the horses by rude, ignorant tourists
Poor horses who have to endure these caresses...
Where are any Sudanese in this demonstration? Or is this another rent-a-mob!
You don't have to be from a country to feel sympathy for their plight. I can't understand why people don't realise that, too wrapped up in themselves so no feelings for others I suspect.
Perhaps these loud obnoxious protesters could throw in a couple dollars each to enable Sudanese children have 3 squares a day, or give a family a couple chickens: fresh eggs, or cooking implements. Do something that shows you care about the people you think you are yelling to benefit. Ah, peaceful silence.
@@maybarnard1088 That goes both ways, Guards and horses deserve some respect too.
@@peggymccauley7956I agree. It's ridiculous and unproductive!
Yep, rent-a-mob is right 🙄
I'm getting sick and tired of all these protests week in and week out!
Yes! It's so tiring & we care less & less as the days drum on 🥱🥱🥱
I wish the protesters would protest somewhere else...stop protesting near the House Guards 😠😡
I wish the tourists could go around the Horse Boxes..Geez ..lazy or what ??🤔🤨
I wonder about the state of their shoes when they have gone through the box - horses go where they stand!
C’est dingue ……. Des défilés à répétitions !!!!! Et ça porte ses fruits ???? Je plains les habitants ! Monique 🇫🇷
They're protesting all over the US, too.
The COH is so lovely he is a gentleman in all meanings of the world, haven't ever seen him lose his temper with annoying tourists. I don't think I would be so lenient with anyone upsetting my men or horses. Why do these marches always come past Horse guards upsetting the poor horses, thankfully they were taken in quickly, I though that horse guards was automatically informed of demonstrations passing there, they used to get the horses and guards in well in advance, either way quick thinking today.
Thank you for the timestamps, it really helps in these longer videos.
Glad you like them!
Yes thanks. Lovely videos but don’t have time always to watch all of them. Really useful. I’ve given up on one particular videoer making sensational claims but nothing much happens.
Now it s for Sudan. People don t work in London?
how many of that lot no where the Sudan is/ and how many are Sudanese ?
I bet over half those idiots have no idea what they are protesting 😂😂😂🙄
Know one should be feeding the horses anything, they’ll expect the next person to do the same or the idiot’s that park their children right by them. STOP TOUCHING THE HORSES!
Please closed The Gate,, Do not allowed those people near the King' s guard n The Horse,,, Priority is The king's Guard n The Horse safety,,,,
Woman in blue striped dress moooooove😡
😂
Go protest in Sudan see where it gets you.
I noticed the year you filmed this is 2924 🤔 please reveal your time travel know-how 😅 rather disappointed to see that 900 years in the future nothing has changed 😕
Actually, I was quite pleased to discover that all the climate change, end of the world, scary stuff was just nonsensical propaganda.
🤣🤣
@@SusanRoseArt🤣🤣🤣
Who is tarzan over there ?.....he thinks he is on the beach 😅😅😅
London is the capital of Sudan? Since when? Settle your problems by yourselves! And lots of silly people need a diet at first! The guards lost their voices as the Princess Mermaid!
That man in black shirt fed something to the horse. There should be no feeding. Dangerous.
He is a veteran guard and already had asked permission.
@@lindachandler5448
Not what a fellow tourist stated. Guess you know better.
@@lindachandler5448
Tourists followed the leader and there were more feeding tourists. A Veteran would have known better.
Gads, it is the height of bad manners to go about shirtless. Good grief.
The horses hate it
Very ineffective protesters! I suppose if their purpose is disruption they achieved thst but their behaviour doesn’t motivate me to help whatever cause’.
This is not a petting zoo stop touching the horses
How how long are the guards and horses shifts?
The boxman and horses have one hour shifts. The Gatesman and chitsman have 2 hour shifts
Go away
