As a 71 year old American, I totally agree with the mandatory military service! Our youth have no clue what manners are, let alone any kind of respect for authority or their elders, for that matter! A good few years under the care of a good ole drill sargent aught to teach them a few things that sadly parents don't/can't/won't teach them these day.
We're a military family, and both of my sons have served as well. There are pros and cons to compulsory military service, but learning discipline, comradery and accountability are just some that help young people learn how to respect others--especially towards those who volunteered to place their own lives on the line to protect the country they love, and it's people. That behavior we saw was despicable.
