WarioWare is definitely that style of classic 'arcade mastery' game, where you do the same thing over and over, getting better each time, in an effort to beat your own records. The 'story mode' is essentially the tutorial for the rest of the single-player content. If you're not a fan of that (which it sounds like you aren't) then yeah, this franchise won't ever be your cup of tea.

As a longtime WarioWare fan since the first game on GBA, I am extremely looking forward to getting this on Christmas, but I am fully aware that these types of games clearly won't satisfy players who prefer "core" gameplay over "casual, party"-type gameplay.

@@RobotacularRoBob Have played Ring Fit and can absolutely recommend! It's got parameters you set at the beginning that you can change at any time for how hard you want the exercises to be, you can choose which ones you do when (although there is of course some strategy to encourage you to diversify), the game will pause itself and remind you to take breaks and drink water, there's an option to have warm-ups and cool down stretches (which are tailored to what you've exercised that session!) that the game will guide you through, and it legitimately does make exercising fun! Only downside is needing to have the space to play with all the different poses- there are several yoga ones and a few lying-down leg ones that require a pretty large range of motion that I really don't have in my living room unless I move the couch every time I want to play. Wish there was a "limited space" option like the option it has for quiet running in case you need to be quiet while you exercise. Would recommend a yoga mat or the like if you don't have nice carpet, though.

Yeah but that’s a common reason to not buy Warioware
My beef is that he didn’t like the visuals and the mini game style. This dude loves all of Nintendo’s aesthetic art, but one of its most stylized games doesn’t win him over? Kinda sucks, kinda sketchy
Sure Warioware is a bit weird and it’s easy to fail if you get distracted, but that’s the point. And after the story, you always fail, to get a new high score. And you need to replay to even see all the minigames. The game itself could emphasize this more (“you have 50 mini games to unlock”) but it’s part of the fun even if it goes unstated

I think when he said grips, he meant the thing that connects two Joycon together to make a full controller. What you’re describing is the safety strap. Other than that, I agree!

Getting the original WarioWare and WarioWare Touched for free on the 3DS as part of the ambassador program/My Nintendo is what turned me into a fan of this series.
I wonder if Arlo tried a WarioWare without motion controls (ie, button or touch screen controls) if he would like it more. Get It Together might be more his speed, (though that game has weaknesses too).
Also, an aside, but it BOGGLES me why Nintendo hasn't made WarioWare into a mobile game yet. Seems like a perfect fit. WarioWare Touched was basically a mobile game, before mobile games were even a thing. Real missed opportunity.

I was trying to respond to this thread, but CZcams kept purging my replies. I will try again.
The original WarioWare for GBA (Mega Microgames) was an exclusive 3DS ambassador program reward.
WarioWare Touched could be acquired on the 3DS through My Nintendo for 1000 Platinum Coins. I am pretty sure this deal was ended when the 3DS eShop closed.
So both were "free", in a sense that I got one by being an earlier adopter of the 3DS at the original higher market price, and the other with 1000 Platinum Coins.
I would be remiss if I did not also mention that, nowadays, the original WarioWare is on the NSO GBA app, if you happened to have shelled out for the Expansion Pass.

Not to mention that WarioWare is developed by Intelligent Systems, while Wario Land was developed by Nintendo R&D1 until they dissolved in 2004, and Wario Land: Shake It! for the Wii was developed by Good-Feel. Getting a new WarioWare game has absolutely nothing to do with not getting a new Wario Land game. It all really comes down to whether Good-Feel ever wants to develop another Wario Land game, on whether Nintendo will approve of said game or not, or if Nintendo can find another developer, first or third-party, to develop a new game in the series. People really should research this stuff and use actual facts in arguments rather than falsely and rashly blame WarioWare for the lack of a new Wario Land game.

I recently completed Warioware GBA on NSO+ and had a blast. I'd recommend that to Arlo if he's willing to give it one more try. I had Smooth Moves on the Wii and felt the same way as Arlo because the motion control games feel less good to gain mastery of and hence less drive to complete. The simplicity of Dpad + A button in the GBA game lets them make games that are more intense and yet feel more fair.

I've played Warioware from the beginning. A lot of what makes it fun is getting better at the micro games, but the best part is playing with others, especially ones that don't really play games and laughing at each other over trying to frantically figure out what you're supposed to do in each game. Smooth moves and this one are especially fun with that because of all the different poses you have to do. Indo agree that $30 or $40 would be a nicer price though

  • @Blazethh
    @Blazethh Před 10 měsíci +6

I'm a big WarioWare fan. I think this game has three key issues that hold it back from being one of the best.
    1. The lack of side content unlockables akin to what was seen in a games like Twisted and Gold. There are poses to unlock and unlocking every microgame is still fun, but the game could have so much more longevity if there were just more things to work towards.
    2. The motion controls are just not perfect. I can still get good scores but there are times when I feel 3-4 of my hearts are lost solely because the game didn't recognize my inputs correctly. It's not actually as big of a problem as you might expect, but it happens enough it's still worth noting.
    3. This is apparently a pipe dream at this point, but WarioWare would benefit so much from a real online mode. Imagine a 16 person lobby where you just see who can last the longest. There are plenty of other great options and you could also implement asynchronous multiplayer in some ways too (even Wario Cup in GiT was a cool option to have). I just don't get why not, it's such an obvious game to add it to since it will inherently have a lower amount of content than many games.
I still would recommend this game for WarioWare fans, though I agree it should be $10-20 cheaper. Not sure if it's better or worse than Get it Together. Haven't played multiplayer at all yet but what's included looks good. Overall a decent entry in the series and definitely not the best (and fwiw I think Smooth Moves is overrated too)

“MOVE IT” is WAY better than WW: “Get it Together” which has a far more frustrating platforming gimmick that makes it ‘too easy’ and harder all at once. The last one felt like trying to play Warioware Touched on an emulator with a controller instead of having a touch screen.
In fact Switch has a touch screen so even a sequel to Touched would have been better than ‘Get it Together’. The motion controls in this new one make it feel like an actual modern sequel to the wii game which ain’t a bad thing. Smooth Moves, Twisted and Touched were the best ones in the series, so this feels like a “Return to form” while utilizing the variety new switch features and is a vast improvement to the last one by a long shot.

The thing about the short length of Warioware games is that the first run through the microgame sets is essentially a tutorial (which is also why they were still introducing new poses up to the end). The sets don't even function the same way after your first run through, since they conclude after beating the boss stage once, and in Move It specifically, giving you an extra four lives if you run out (I'm told). Ever since Gold, the games have included a list of missions that are essentially "post-game" goals, which are where a lot of the content lies (Get It Together also has the Wario Cup, which unfortunately locks a lot of challenge runs behind a leaderboard system, such that you have to keep checking in each week for a year in order to unlock every challenge variation).
I'm playing Smooth Moves while waiting for my copy of Move It to arrive (got it on discount, but with a long shipping delay, and a JP region box), and while I'm enjoying it, I can totally get how an unituitive or otherwise unresponsive control scheme could utterly ruin a lot of microgames. Thus far, none of my runs have been totally ruined by it, but a few microgames (particularly those in Smooth Moves' "Pepper Grinder" pose) still have me confused as to how I was meant to approach them physically.

      @ce7.0 Před 10 měsíci +1

My problem with Move It though is that it does the thing the other games do where that first run is basically a tutorial, but then it's not really a tutorial for anything since there's no single player content after that. Play through the story mode and then play each stage one more time to see the couple extra games you didn't get the first time and then you've pretty much done everything you possibly can in single player.

Warioware Touched solidified my love for Warioware, but after playing three of them, new Wariowares haven't really added anything for me. I revisit Touched, GBA one and Smooth Moves from time to time so guess I'm just set for life with all the Warioware I need.
I played Touched in elementary, so for kids of today this will probably be what Touched was for me. More power to the series and those who still enjoy it!

WarioWare is absolutely a game you need to have grown up with to get. WarioWare D.I.Y. was one of the most influential games of my childhood and I think WarioWare Smooth Moves is one of the best Wii games of all time, so of course I loved the game. What's unfortunate is that this game has so much multiplayer emphasis, so it falls into the same pit of Pikmin 3 Bingo Battle where no two fans of the series live within 10 miles of each other.

  • @Marcor255

I totally see why you wouldn't like this game, and I do agree that the pricing is really absurd, considering we already have a different Warioware game on the Switch (being Get It Together if anyone remembers that game's existance), but I personally had a great time with it. I play Warioware for the ridiculousness of it all, the super fun (to me) minigames and the characters. I think the characters of Warioware are some of the best in the Mario series, they are all so damn charming and fun! A TV show with them would be so good. I also like that this game takes the same gameplay approach as Smooth Moves for the WII, which is my favourite Warioware game. Motion controls highten the fun and absurdity to me, which is why I have a blast on Smooth Moves any time I replay it, and having a sequel to a game a play to death from my childhood just makes me happy. I'm glad this game exists because of it's connections to Smooth Moves alone, honestly. I do think Nintendo should do something different with Warioware and it's characters, however, considering most games are basically the same at this point. Maybe a new Wario Land featuring all these guys would work? Who knows... Overall, not the most important and flashy game out there, but I would recommend it to someone who enjoys Warioware if they have 50 moneys to
    waste.

I can definitely agree that $50 is a bit steep for this kind of game, but I'd still strongly encourage you to try out the multiplayer modes sometime -- maybe with your nephew or some other family members. Whether you're doing the co-op modes or the party modes, I'd argue that's where most of the value and fun are -- the hectic pace and physicality of it all just lend themselves really well to a group setting and generally make any potential frustration from failure funny instead.

There is a growing sentiment online that a game needs tons of "content" to justify its price tag and I just really don't agree. Playing the story mode once through is like playing each level in Super Monkey Ball until you beat each a single time in practice mode and thinking that's all the "content" for the main game. I just think a lot of modern gamers don't appreciate arcade style titles. That being said, complaining about janky motion controls is always justified.

I feel like worth is so subjective when it comes to games. If you're not a fan of something and only end up spending a few hours on it, that 50 bucks seems like a lot. But if you love it and spend dozens or hundreds of hours on it, then you're getting your money's worth regardless of the actual quality or length of the game. Unfortunately that's not really a viable metric to determine what a game's price tag should be.

Ok. I just recently played this game and finished it and I have to say. As someone whose first truly first warioware game is this one... I had a really good time with this game. I think I may just find a new favorite franchise for me to consume. I did play warioware for the gamecube when I was a kid, but I didn't really remember it since it was a long time ago. Warioware Move it! is a game that I just wanted to try since I was a bit curious. I expected it to be above average at best.
However I find myself legitimately entertain by it. It was fun, short, and snappy. I had the opposite reaction of yours. I feel like it ended when it needed to and playing quick micro minigames where you have to guess on the fly on what to do just appeal to me for some reason. I like the variety of art styles leaving me unexpected as what was gonna come next. I think I may have to try the other ones now.

I can definitely see how a motion-based WarioWare game would give you an especially hard time. I'm a big series fan, and even I didn't really get into Smooth Moves back on the Wii, because I kinda perceived switching between poses as annoying. I wonder if the simpler WarioWare games (like WarioWare DS or WarioWare Inc.) would actually give you a better time. Though I guess most of your issues regarding mini game collections would still stand. The way I see it, WarioWare has always been a franchise for people who're just looking for some quick a dirty fun inbetween. Like a little snack before lunch. None of the games are terribly long, but they're always incredibly funny and silly, so they have a ridiculous amount of replay value. No replay will last you much longer than like a couple of hours, though.

As someone who's played every WarioWare game, this is probably my second-least-favorite, after Snapped. I agree that there isn't enough single-player content (they could have at least included target scores for individual microgames, like most WarioWare games do, and a few more unlockables), and I agree that it isn't worth $50 (unless you have friends to play it with, but 1) will they really want to learn all those poses and 2) do you have enough wrist straps for multiple people? Personally, I could only find one of mine, after years of games that don't use them).
I do love the WarioWare series, but I would have preferred Get It Together 2 over Move It! I also have a friend who's still holding out hope for DIY 2...maybe someday!
EDIT: That's not to mention the finnicky-at-times motion controls and the even finnickier IR sensor.

One of the appeals of a new Warioware, in general, is having to figure out and adapt to a microgame using nothing but the 1- or 2-word instructions and the controls available, fast enough not to fail since you only have a few seconds. it’s consistently something new. However, i can see how motion controls might make it much harder to figure out. with most games in this series if you do the right thing you get immediate feedback, and that little dopamine hit, but with motion controls i can easily see getting feedback where you have no idea what you did right or wrong, especially with misunderstood inputs and not having everything you need
i really think a game which relies on button controls like the original or something like Touched where you know it’s always the touch screen would be a better fit, like you’re still figuring it out, but you know it’s within certain parameters.
