Hello again young man, a few tips for you.
    1. When driving your tractor's, never ride the clutch! Always put your left foot on the tread plate otherwise you will cause premature wear to the clutch disc. What you are doing is pressurizing the clutch pressure plate which allows the clutch disc to momentarily slip. This takes the meat off the disc or it can put a glaze on it which makes it less effective.
    2. Hay, the hay you cut in this video is very mature and as such dusty because the seeds have dried out and are ready to fall. The best practice for cutting hay in my opinion is laid out below.
    A. Allow the seed head to form and then dry out but do not let the seed head get too dry and go brown otherwise the grass begins to die back. This results in over dry, dusty hay which is bad to mow, bale and handle.
    B. Cut the hay after 11am in the morning and before 3pm in the afternoon. This allows the Sun to warm the grass up effectively by which time the sugar levels in the grass have risen so when you mow the grass the sugar is trapped in the stalks and it makes it more palatable for livestock to eat and convert into meat of milk. Cutting too soon or too late in the day yields low sugar content and as such poorer quality grass.
    C. Your mowing technique. I always go into a hay field and mow it from the outside in. So, mow with the fence or wall to the left side of the tractor and go around the field three times. Then I take the middle of the field out and then do the final back swath (with the mower up to the fence but not touching it) last of all.

Yes indeed, riding the clutch isn't a good habit at all.
      Damage risk in doing that.
Also thanks for explaining when it's the proper time to cut the grass.

grand father always let the heads of the grass bow over before mowing so the seed drops and refreshes the sward

I have one. These mowers came out in the 1970's and was the beginning of the end of the sickle bar mowers. They would cut anything standing or not. Never clog and maintenance free. You see how easy to change blades. They basically float on the ground but can cut a bit shorter than you like. No adjustments for cutting height. Quite heavy unit too. They did come with a full deflection apron. Is very risky to mow without one. Zwegger brand mowers.

Also lads sometimes the clutch pedal is heavy or hard to press therefor it's able to hold the weight of your foot with out it going down. Or engaging

    • @duanedean3256
      @duanedean3256 Před 7 lety

First time you pay and put a clutch in you'll think other wise. Your clutch plate springs and throwout bearing takes the abuse before the clutch disk. Once the clutch disk takes on wear from this then the other two are already shot. Fields are not smooth so the bouncing up and down creates downwards pressure on the clutch from your foot. If you ever have to slip the clutch for any reason then your going way to fast and are actually doing less but it's costing you more. Use a lower gear and use the throttle in turns and such.

I spent many hour cutting with that mower. When you put the mower into cutting position be out on the end you can't get crushed and have better mechanical advantage to control it. I see what you guys are saying about him riding the clutch, Don't . After your second time around/ cut do a reverse back cut then your grass dries better evenly . Your grass looks light so run it at 540 and just watch your wheel placement. Your only cutting 5 ft 4" if I remember? Our grass had too much clover in it to dry so the rotary was the only thing to cut it! The rotary mower conditioner was the best for cutting and drying the hay! You should be wearing hearing protection. It really looks like your center hitch is too short, the way you are cutting the soil at the 6:52.

      Beni Andrei Priza merge incontinuu.

Fahr KM 22? We had one of the first Fahr mowers imported into The UK, a KM4 which had 4 small drums instead of 2 big ones and I believe the cutting width was about 5 feet 6 inches. It did not have a skirt either but it had a guard running across the top. Even then my dad had a very lucky escape when the mower picked up a stone and smashed one of the tractor cab's side windows! Dad was unscathed but, as I said, he was lucky. As others have said, they are way too dangerous to use without some sort of stone guard. We used it for many years until it literally fell apart! It was MUCH better than a sickle/cutterbar mower ( It would cut through anything, long thick tangled crops which would leave a cutterbar helpless) but far inferior to the disc mower.which replaced it, Having said that, it was one of the first , there has been a lot of developments since then.e.g. the first round balers were no where near as good as they are now!

Bikerchic No... Actually we are cutting everything like this. It doesn't really matter about the times when we will cut again. For us, it is important to maintain the field mostly cut, to cut a lot of grass once, so the result will occur in the number of balers.

It really appears that the drums are set too low. They aren't supposed to grind in or ride constantly on the ground. You can see this especially when cornering and the dirt is shooting out. 3:16 and 6:45 (just a couple of many through out the video). Gonna wear it out out. :-( If the ground was just really uneven in those spots and it bottomed out in a few spots, that's ok, but it really looks like the bottom of the drums were scraping along most of the time.

MfG, MS
